Chapter 364 Who Is He
Ginobi Bar.
11:40 PM.
The FBI and the police had essentially completed the 'encirclement' plan.
On the east side of the bar, more than a dozen suspects, handcuffed, were squatting on the ground in a line.
To the west of the bar, some customers were temporarily detained until their identities could be verified before they could leave.
After getting out of the car, Luke chatted with Raymond at the bar entrance before entering the bar's first-floor hall.
Looking around the bar, Luke greeted Alfie Imma, "Agent Imma, congratulations, you've achieved a good haul today."
Alfie Imma came over and said, "We've also found a large amount of drugs in the cavity of the bar's second-floor wall, new types of drugs worth millions of US dollars."
Luke asked, "Were all these drugs smuggled from Mexico?"
"That's correct." Alfie Imma pointed to the people squatting on the ground, "They are members of the Gonsede Gang, mainly responsible for receiving and selling drugs.
They've been operating in Los Angeles for a long time, forming their own drug distribution network."
Luke inquired, "Any leads on Natasha's murder?"
Alfie Imma sighed, "The bar manager, Rossby Clement, denied any involvement in the bombing case.
Afterward, I interrogated several other key members, they all denied participating in the bombing case.
I don't think it's likely that they are colluding on their stories.
How's your interrogation going?"
Luke shook his head, "Brando Salvalto also denied any involvement with the bombing case."
Alfie Imma said, "It seems like there are still doubts concerning the case of Natasha's murder. Have you investigated the origin of the bomb package?"
Luke replied, "We checked it.
Since the main suspect at the time was the courier Brando, we didn't investigate further.
I've already had someone look into the courier's transportation channels again."
Alfie Imma stroked his chin, pondering, "Is it possible that Natasha's death is unrelated to the trafficking organization and she was killed by someone else for a different reason?"
Luke pressed, "Does Natasha have any other enemies?
This kind of brutal killing is not just a simple grudge."
Alfie Imma shook his head, "I'm not sure, we kept in contact, but to avoid exposing her identity, we minimized our interactions and didn't talk about things unrelated to work.
To be honest, I don't really understand her personal life either."
Wrong direction of investigation?
This speculation left Luke feeling powerless?
All this commotion, yet failing to find the culprit's motive?
Luke calmed down and analyzed the situation; with his experience, coincidences could happen in a case, but not one after another.
Natasha's death was closely linked to two trafficking organizations; Luke did not believe it was accidental or coincidental.
"Agent Imma, you're more familiar with the trafficking organizations. With the Gonsede Gang's drug network in Los Angeles taken down, who stands to gain?"
"First would be the other local drug gangs in Los Angeles, and second, other trafficking organizations," Alfie Imma finished, then counter-asked, "Do you suspect this is a setup by another trafficking organization?"
"Do you think that's possible?"
Alfie Imma nodded, "It's a good line of thinking. Trafficking organizations often have conflicts, and it's not impossible for them to use the FBI and police to strike back against rivals.
If it's true, I'll make sure they pay."
...
The next morning.
Luke went to the Detective Bureau, first stopping by the Technical Department to inquire if new leads were found at the explosion site.
The Jujutsu Club bombing had left the place in shambles, and site inspection was a major task with all the evidence sent for testing at the Technical Department.
The tests on the explosive residue confirmed that the explosion originated from that courier package.
So, Luke's decision to have Black re-investigate the courier transportation channels was correct.
Luke visited the Chief's office to report on the progress of the investigation.
Reid was also very concerned about this case and reminded him to be careful while investigating the trafficking organizations given that their members were desperate. He mentioned that if manpower was insufficient, additional hands could be assigned to Squad One.
After chatting for a while, Luke returned to the Robbery and Murder Department.
What he needed now was not more manpower but rather new clues or suspects out of the mist.
At 11 o'clock in the morning, Black rushed into the office and took a big gulp of cold water, "Guys, I've found a new lead."
The deputy asked, "Is it related to the bomb package?"
"Yes," Black confirmed, noticing Luke coming out of his office and continued, "I carefully checked the courier package's transportation channels and process and identified a few employees who could have accessed the package.
I initially planned to meet these employees to take their statements.
But the contact person from the courier company claimed one of them suddenly took the day off yesterday.
This person who took leave has raised my suspicions even more."
As he spoke, Black placed a file on the projector.
Name, Ramon Borego
Ethnicity, Latin
Gender, Male
Age, 35
Mobile Number, 626 876 2325
Social Security Number, 623-53-7644
Jackson said, "He's also Latin, could he be involved with the trafficking organization?"
Black snapped, "Exactly, on my way back, I had Matthew look him up.
According to Matthew, he bought a plane ticket to Mexico, scheduled for one o'clock this afternoon."
