Chapter 359: The Post
A few minutes later, two cars drove into the neighborhood streets.
The cars maintained a distance, one driving fast and the other slow, appearing to be unrelated.
The cars circled the neighborhood twice, but they did not notice any suspicious persons or vehicles.
Black pointed at Pari Jones's house and said, "Captain, the house with the gray sedan parked outside the garage belongs to Pari Jones."
"The last time I saw Pari Jones, she was driving this gray sedan.
Since the car is here, they are likely at home."
Luke signaled to Jackson to park nearby and took out binoculars to observe the house. Through the windows, he could see lights but no figures.
According to another suspect, Randy Silva, four suspects kidnapped Pari Jones, and they only drove one black Chevrolet sedan. After catching Pari Jones, Kuka and another accomplice drove Pari Jones's car.
While Randy Silva and a murdered accomplice drove another black Chevrolet sedan.
This time, they carried five pistols, two AKs, and a shotgun.
Apart from the pistols they carried, the AKs and shotgun were in the black Chevrolet, which the police had already seized.
Luke speculated that Kuka and the other accomplice probably carried three pistols on them.
Having understood the opponents' armaments, Luke felt safer and bolder about executing the arrest.
Aside from a squad, eight patrol officers arrived at the scene to provide support. To avoid alerting the suspects prematurely, Luke gathered everyone at a slightly distant location to assign tasks and ready the equipment.
Among them, Luke also met the familiar rookies, John and Lucy, who were patrolling nearby and had come over to help.
John said, "Luke, thank you for the gift last time. Lucy and I really liked it, thank you."
Luke smiled, "You guys still owe me a drink."
"No problem, I still have a fine bottle saved up. Once everyone is less busy, we should get together."
"Be careful later," Luke patted his shoulder and greeted Lucy, then started to put on his gear, donning a bulletproof vest and an M4A1 rifle.
During the preparations, Jenny was responsible for observing the house, but she had yet to see any sign of the suspects.
Pari Jones's house was a bungalow with three bedrooms and two living rooms: a master bedroom, guest bedroom, and study, with lights continuously on in the living room and master bedroom.
Luke guessed the suspects might be in the living room or the master bedroom.
Of course, there was another possibility that the suspects had already fled.
After considering all possibilities, Luke chose the best course of action.
Within this, Black and Port attacked from the main door, with Black, more familiar with Pari Jones's house, leading the arrest team.
At the same time, Raymond and Jenny entered from the master bedroom.
Luke and Jackson, along with two patrol officers, guarded the back door.
At Luke's command, a patrol officer used a battering ram to burst open the front door.
Black charged into Pari Jones's house.
"Los Angeles Police!"
"Clear."
"Clear."
...
Luke stood in Pari Jones's backyard, scanning the surroundings. He had yet to hear any gunshots, a good sign and a bad one.
The advantage being, not having to worry about casualties.
However, it also indicated that the suspects might have escaped.
Soon, Luke's radio crackled, "Captain, we've searched the rooms and haven't found Pari Jones or the suspects.
But we did find something else."
"Understood," Luke responded, then turned to Jackson and said, "Keep an eye on the surroundings. If you spot any suspicious vehicles or persons, report to me immediately."
"Understood."
Luke went inside the house. The living room was in disorder with signs of having been searched, and a pool of blood on the sofa indicated something had indeed happened here.
Black pointed in the direction of the dining room, "Captain, there's a laptop on the dining table facing the living room, its video function was just turned off.
I suspect someone was monitoring the situation here."
Luke walked over to check the computer, which indeed had an angle on the living room; he surmised the suspects probably noticed something unusual and left earlier with Pari Jones.
They also left the laptop to monitor the house. If the two suspects returned, it would inform them of the new rendezvous point.
If something unexpected happened, they could see how far they needed to run."
Luke ordered, "Raymond, put the computer away and see if the tech team can track any lead."
"Understood."
Luke then turned to Black, "You're more familiar with this place than I am. What do you think?"
Black replied, "There's a small safe in Pari Jones's bedroom closet. If the suspects came for something specific, she likely stored it there."
While speaking, Black walked into the bedroom, opened the closet, and indeed found a small safe which was already empty.
Black sighed, "The suspects must have already taken the documents."
Luke thought for a moment, if the suspects indeed found the documents, then Pari Jones had lost her value. They could have just killed her; there was no need to take her away, considering this group didn't seem compassionate.
"Continue the search, extend the search area into the yard." In Luke's view, they would either find the documents or Pari Jones's body.
