Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 357: Invitation_2

"You're not qualified."

"What? I'm not qualified?"

"Sorry, I didn't want to say it, didn't want to hurt you."

"But it's the truth."

"Tell Luke I have the clues he wants for solving the case, thank you." Pari Jones rolled up the car window.

Little Black leaned in and said, "Don't go, if you really want to talk to Luke, I can take you to the police station."

"No, I'm not going to the police station.

And let Luke come alone, I don't want to see a second person.

Especially you." After saying this, Pari Jones drove away.

"Damn!" Little Black was somewhat frustrated, spreading his hands, "I am now Detective Chief Marcus, the chief!"

...

Another scene.

The crash and gunfire site had been cordoned off, surrounded by a number of police cars.

After the red sedan had fled, Luke had contacted the surrounding patrol officers to assist with interception, but they had not found any trace of the car.

Luke and Jackson switched to a new car and searched the surrounding highways, also without success.

The crash site was already located in the outskirts of Los Angeles, with endless Gobi surrounding the highway. Luke guessed the suspect vehicle might have driven off the highway into the Gobi, and once the headlight was off, it disappeared like a stone sinking into the sea, becoming very hard to find again.

The surrounding patrol officers searched for over an hour, still with no trace of the red sedan, Luke had no choice but to give up.

Luke kept in contact with the other team members. Little Black and Port rushed to Natasha's house and found signs of burglary, possibly by the same suspects.

It was now almost certain that the target of the explosion was Natasha, but the motive of the suspects was still unclear.

However, the brazenness of this gang left a deep impression on Luke, blocking police cars, firing at the police – this was not something ordinary suspects could do, likely an organized crime.

If Natasha was just a jiu-jitsu instructor, it logically didn't seem possible that she could have provoked these people?

Why did they want to kill Natasha?

And what were they looking for in her house?

Tonight, too many things happened, the courier was highly suspicious, also being the most important clue.

Besides, Luke had injured one suspect and his blood remained at the shooting scene; if he had a criminal record, they should be able to ascertain his identity.

After dealing with the situation at the crime scene, Luke remembered something Little Black had mentioned over the phone.

Pari Jones.

This woman was troublesome but admittedly skilled in creating news; she arrived at Natasha's house first, and from her tone, she likely knew Natasha and had some clues unknown to the police.

Luke could roughly guess why she wanted to meet; the woman definitely wanted to break a big story, likely wanting to exchange some clues and information with him.

If she could truly provide useful clues for the investigation, Luke wouldn't mind exchanging some clues with her, as long as it didn't violate any regulations.

With Luke's current position, he had some autonomy in this respect.

It was after eleven at night when Luke arrived at the address written on the note.

Kamosi Bar.

This bar was located in a rather secluded area, with an old and faded sign, and a few black people standing at the door chatting casually, occasionally glancing at Luke.

If it had been before, Luke definitely would have glared back fiercely, and if in a worse mood, he might even have hit them.

But today Luke didn't want to cause trouble, nor did he want to expose his identity.

Luke glanced at his watch, he was much later than the scheduled time, but he believed Pari Jones would wait for him.

Luke entered the bar; the interior was bigger than he had anticipated, decorated in a style somewhat akin to African, but there weren't many people in the bar, just a few tables, and a few black people dancing in the dance area, both males and females, looking quite lively.

The majority in the bar were black, Luke suddenly appearing here was somewhat unusual, attracting quite a few stares.

Luke looked around but didn't see Pari Jones anywhere, had this woman already left?

Luke had her cell phone number, but he didn't want to call first; if he hadn't guessed wrong, she would probably call soon.

Luke sat at the bar, "Do you have any food here?"

He had been busy until midnight and hadn't even had dinner.

The bartender said, "We only sell alcohol here. There are snacks over there, you'll need to get them yourself."

"A beer," Luke said, preparing to have a beer to line his stomach.

Just then, Luke felt someone approach from behind. He turned around to find a middle-aged Latin man wearing a baseball cap, his right hand tucked in his coat pocket.

The Latin man sat next to Luke, his right hand still in his coat pocket, "Are you waiting for someone?"

Luke turned to face him.

The Latin man warned, "Don't move. Look at my right pocket. I don't want to hurt you, but sometimes my fingers don't listen to me."

Luke observed the man and looked around. At a nearby table sat another Latin man, younger, appearing to be in his twenties.

"Who are you?"

The man with the baseball cap said, "You don't need to worry about that, just give me the stuff."

Luke didn't know what he was referring to, which differed from his arrangement with Pari Jones, but Luke didn't correct him, "The people I'm waiting for aren't you guys; perhaps you've mistaken me for someone else."

"No mistake, Pari Jones the journalist sent us."

"OK, did she mention what she sent you to pick up?"

"You know what she wants, we know too, don't play tricks," the cap-wearing man threatened as he shook the right side of his coat.

"Our previous arrangement wasn't for a one-sided deal, where's what she gave me?"

"Do you want bullets? I can give you a few.

Don't test my patience anymore, huh?"

Luke countered, "Do you know who I am?"

The cap-wearing Latin man threatened, "I don't care who you were before, but if you don't produce what I want, you will be dead immediately."

Their voices were low and temporarily didn't attract others' attention.

The bartender came over with the beer and placed it in front of Luke, "Ten US dollars."

The cap-wearing Latin man glanced at the bartender.

Seizing the opportunity, Luke immediately swung his left fist, aiming directly at the man's temple.

"Bang!"

A gunshot sounded, and Luke felt his clothes tug slightly.

The cap-wearing man was struck by Luke's punch, and his gun dropped.

Confident in his punch, Luke didn't look back at him and instead drew his gun and shot at the other Latin man.

"Bang, bang..."

Both sides fired almost simultaneously, and Luke felt a bullet graze his shoulder.

Simultaneously, Luke fired three shots, hitting the man's chest.

The young Latin man fell to the ground, blood gushing from his chest, his gun dropping as well.

"Ah..." screams erupted from the bar's patrons.

At that moment, Luke had no intention of stopping. He fired four more shots at the Latin man he had knocked down.

"Bang..."

All four shots hit the limbs, rendering the cap-wearing Latin man sprawled on the ground, unable to move, groaning in pain, "Ah, ah..."

In reality, the cap-wearing man had been briefly knocked unconscious by Luke's punch, but the gunshot had awakened him, and he was already reaching for his gun.

If Luke hadn't shot his limbs first, he would have fired back.

[Bullet-Proof Card activated, used.]

A familiar voice sounded in Luke's head, annoying him slightly. He fired another shot at the cap-wearing man, piercing his right palm, "Ah..."

Another scream ensued.

The other Latin man, having been hit fatally, was probably already dead.

At this moment, the bar was empty; the other patrons had either screamed and fled or were hiding.

Luke scanned the surroundings, his eyes settling on the cap-wearing man, "Now it's quiet. Let's have a good talk."

The cap-wearing man showed a panicked look, "Please don't kill me, I beg you, don't kill me."

Luke sat down on a chair, lifted his beer glass, and took a big gulp, "Who are you guys?"
