Chapter 356 Attack
Warren Jujutsu Club.
Because he practiced jujutsu here, Luke was quite familiar with the club's layout. It was only two stories high and the structure was rather simple.
Office, training rooms, restrooms, pantry, changing rooms, utility rooms—among them, there were several training rooms of various sizes.
After searching the entire Jujutsu Club, Luke found no other victims and also preserved photos of the scene immediately.
Soon after, the police, fire, and medical emergency teams entered the scene.
Luke showed his badge and temporarily left the Warren Jujutsu Club.
Being carried out of the club alongside him was the young Latino, Christian. Luke approached and asked solicitously, "Are you okay?"
Christian still seemed somewhat panicked, "Have you found Coach Natasha?"
"The situation at the scene is quite complex, so we can't confirm anything yet," Luke replied dismissively, countering, "What happened before the explosion or after we left?"
"I... remember, after you left, I chatted with Coach Natasha for a bit, and then handed over a delivered parcel to her.
She took the parcel upstairs, and not long after, the explosion occurred."
Recalling the events, Luke remembered Christian calling after Natasha to get the parcel after the competition ended. According to Christian's account, the parcel most likely was the object that exploded.
"Do you remember the delivery person?"
"He was wearing a USP delivery company uniform, a Caucasian, wearing a hat, and looked to be in his twenties..." Halfway through, Christian seemed to have touched a wound on his face, which caused him to grimace in pain.
A nearby female doctor spoke, "Sir, please hurry, we need to take him to the hospital for treatment."
Luke nodded, "How tall was he, any accent or distinctive features?"
"A bit shorter than me, about 180 cm tall, he had a tattoo on his right wrist."
"What kind of tattoo?"
"I only glanced at it briefly, I don't remember the pattern, just the rough location."
"Did you sign for Natasha's parcel?"
"Yes."
"How long was it from the time you signed for the parcel to the explosion?"
"I'm not sure of the exact time... but it was likely less than ten minutes."
Luke frowned slightly. The time seemed short, but if the delivery person was involved, ten minutes was enough for him to escape.
"Were there any other suspicious persons?"
"No."
Christian was lifted into the ambulance.
Luke stayed at the scene and did not follow to the hospital. "Take care of yourself, I'll come visit you."
Christian gathered strength to sit up, his voice choked with emotion, "Is Coach Natasha dead?"
Luke responded truthfully, "We need to wait for the police to inspect the scene before we can conclude."
The doors of the ambulance closed, and Luke watched as the ambulance left the scene.
Police tape was already set up around the perimeter. The first layer outside the tape was crowded with reporters and many onlookers.
Luke caught a familiar scent and turned to look at Orty standing beside him, her beautiful face stained with a smear of dust. Except for her slightly red eyes, she had regained her usual composure.
Luke asked, "Did you notice anything unusual before the explosion?"
Orty thought for a moment, "No, it all happened too suddenly, my mind is a bit jumbled.
Will you be in charge of investigating this case?"
Typically, Luke rarely volunteered to take on tasks, even if he encountered sudden incidents, he never actively requested to lead an investigation, mostly handling cases assigned by the police department.
But this time was different. Natasha was his jujutsu coach, and being bombed just under two hundred meters away, Luke couldn't just stand by, he couldn't get past it emotionally.
"I will try my best to take charge."
"Thank you, I thank you on behalf of Natasha."
"It's too early to say that. You know Natasha better, has she encountered any trouble recently?"
"I'm not sure, I studied jujutsu with Natasha for a while, but I seldom inquired about her personal affairs.
But, I once heard her mention in passing, her biological parents died early, and she was adopted by an Eastern European couple.
Perhaps, you should contact her adoptive parents."
"I will."
Luke saw Orty off and contacted Deputy Chief Reid.
Explosion cases can't be investigated by regular patrols; either detective units handle them or the FBI takes over.
Given Luke's familiarity with the scene and the victims, Reid allowed him to take direct control of the site while also immediately sending reinforcements.
If someone else had taken over the scene, dealing with the chaos left by the explosion would have taken much time to understand the circumstances and inspect the scene, making it difficult to get a clear picture immediately.
But Luke was different; he was nearby when the explosion occurred and had interacted with two of the victims. He already had a basic understanding, had inspected the explosion site, and had even preserved the initial scene photos.
He had already gathered some clues, which enabled him to start the investigation directly, saving a considerable amount of time.
Luke ordered the patrol officers to gather surveillance from the surroundings and to find witnesses.
Half an hour later, the deputy team also arrived at the scene.
Luke instructed the deputy team to stay at the scene while he led the investigation.
The investigation was divided into three directions,
Raymond and Jenny investigated the situation with the USP delivery company, confirming the identity of the person who delivered the parcel to Natasha.
Jack and Port searched Natasha's home.
Jackson was responsible for contacting Natasha's family.
After delegating tasks, Luke saw the deputy team leader covering his mouth and nose with a handkerchief as he walked out of the club, and asked, "Did you see the scene?"
