Chapter 353 Val
Marriott Hotel, Room 712.
The curtains were drawn, and Danny Carter sat on the sofa, pouring himself a whiskey and downing it in one gulp.
He sighed, stood up, and began to pace about restlessly.
"Ding-dong..." The doorbell rang from outside the room.
Danny Carter walked to the door, peered through the peephole, and then opened the door, "Please come in."
Luke and Daisy entered the room one after the other.
The room was filled with the smell of alcohol, and Daisy couldn't help but frown slightly. Turning to Danny Carter, she noticed that his face had taken on a rather drunken hue.
Danny Carter led Luke and Daisy to the sofa, "Take a seat, I hope you've brought some good news."
Daisy asked, "Mr. Carter, you seem very anxious, what happened?"
"I just got a call from Stan Kroenke. He inquired about the progress of the case and mentioned that my negative publicity has caused dissatisfaction among the other players, hoping I could quickly settle this matter and return to team training.
Although he didn't say it explicitly, he probably wants me to contact Jarvis the lawyer... about settling the case." Danny Carter poured another glass of whiskey, took a sip,
"Daisy, you're the lawyer I hired, and I trust you more. What do you think I should do?"
Daisy countered, "Does Kroenke want you to minimize the negative impact on the team as much as possible?"
"Yes, that's pretty much it."
Daisy thought for a moment, "Actually, it was Luke's idea to come to the hotel today. Why don't we hear his suggestion?"
Danny Carter turned to Luke, "OK, did you find any new leads?"
Luke handed Danny Carter a bag, signaling him to open it himself.
Danny Carter opened the bag, his face first showing confusion and then surprise, "This is my driver's license; it should be in the car. Why do you have it?" Immediately, his eyes widened with joy, "You found my Porsche 911."
"Yes, I have found the car and retrieved your license as well as the backup video from the dashcam."
"Where's my car?"
Luke glanced at his watch, "The police should call you within half an hour to tell you that the car has been found."
Danny Carter pressed, "If you found my car, why didn't you just drive it back?"
Luke hadn't driven the car back directly for two reasons. The first reason was to avoid direct association with the car theft, which is why he contacted John to find the car.
John had a good relationship with Luke, so having him find the stolen vehicle was also a chance for John to prove his worth.
Furthermore, given their relationship, Luke could stay informed about the Porsche 911's status, indirectly keeping the car under his control.
The second reason was that the car was very important; the video from the dashcam could have a decisive impact on the allegations against Danny Carter, and Luke wanted to ensure that this piece of evidence was handed over to the officer handling the case.
Of course, some things didn't need to be spelled out too clearly—just mentioning the aspects that were beneficial to the client would suffice.
Luke explained simply, "The dashcam could potentially become key evidence in a conviction.
If I drive the stolen car back myself, only a lawyer can submit the dashcam evidence to the police.
After retrieving the video, the police's primary concern wouldn't be the content but would likely be suspicious of the video's authenticity.
Conversely, if the officer discovers the stolen vehicle and finds the dashcam evidence inside, the effect would be better.
Even though the video content is the same, the police will be more inclined to trust the leads and evidence they have found themselves.
This would be more advantageous for you."
Danny Carter nodded, "It makes sense, with this video, I can prove my innocence, right?"
Luke said, "That will depend on the content of the video. What do you think, Ellis the lawyer?"
Daisy nodded, "That's right.
Mr. Carter, I'd like to see that backup video."
"OK, take a look. I'm telling the truth."
Luke took out a tablet and began to play the video.
The video showed a road, and then a man's voice could be heard, "Billie, may I call you that?"
A woman answered, "Of course, Mr. Carter."
"Hey, just call me Danny. I like my friends calling me Danny."
The woman said, "This feels a bit surreal to me, never thought I'd get to ride in a car with a big star like you.
Do you often give women a ride home?"
"I only take women I like, do you have a boyfriend?"
"No, I don't have a boyfriend."
Danny Carter laughed, "Neither do I."
In the car, Danny Carter and Billie Warwick chatted and laughed together. The atmosphere of the conversation was very friendly and even carried a hint of flirtation, like a young couple showing mutual affection for each other.
The car slowed down, and the scene in the dashcam came to a halt, Danny Carter asked, "Is this your home?"
"Yes it is. Thank you for giving me a ride home."
"I'm also glad to have met you. It's been a long time since I've had such a fun conversation."
After a moment of silence, the woman said, "I should get going now.
Danny, would you like to come in for a cup of coffee?"
"Of course... I like coffee, haha."
...
The video came to an end, and an excited Danny Carter swung his arms, "I told you, it was she who invited me, asking me to her place for coffee.
And she even said she didn't have a boyfriend, that's clearly a hint."
