Chapter 346 Surprise
The following morning.
Luke was on vacation.
The reason for his vacation was simple, he had shot a suspect.
As for the paperwork involved in closing the case, that was handed over to his deputy.
For Luke, this was actually a good thing. Since becoming a captain, he had become even lazier than before.
Yesterday, Luke exchanged two Jujutsu Club cards and went to the Vaughn Jujutsu Club early this morning.
Luke had already made an appointment with Natasha in advance.
Upon meeting, Luke greeted, "Coach, good morning."
Natasha asked, "Morning, is your police department not busy lately?"
"I fired my gun the day before yesterday."
"Did you get hurt?"
"No, God bless." Luke patted his chest.
Natasha laughed and said, "I was going to be a bit gentle with you."
"There's no need, suspects certainly aren't gentle with us."
Natasha clapped her hands and beckoned, "Come on, let's see if you've made any progress in two days."
"Then you better watch out, I practice every day." Luke, donning a black jujutsu uniform, also stepped onto the training mat.
The two bowed to each other as a sign of respect.
Luke initiated the attack, lowering his body, preparing to grab Natasha's legs and take her down with a dive.
With her experience, Natasha saw through Luke's move, supported his right arm with her left hand, pressed down on the back of Luke's neck with her right, twisted hard, and broke through Luke's takedown, flipping him onto the ground.
Now the roles of attacker and defender were reversed, with Natasha's right leg pressing down on Luke's abdomen, her hands pressing down on his arms...
If her left leg were to also press down on Luke's neck, she would have completed a cross hold.
Luke had developed a certain understanding of jujutsu and naturally wouldn't just wait to be subdued; he pressed his left arm against Natasha's neck, preventing her from completing the cross hold, and then twisted his body to escape her pressure.
For a moment, neither could submit the other immediately.
They let go of each other and returned to a standing position.
Natasha nodded approvingly, "Not bad, you're improving quickly."
"You're not a bad teacher yourself," Luke replied.
"Now you need to be careful..." Natasha finished speaking and launched an attack.
Natasha's attack was swift, but Luke was no longer the novice. He parried each move, using his physical advantage to neutralize the first wave of the attack...
Jujutsu live training is strenuous, but Luke was diligent in learning. In one day, he used two Jujutsu Club cards and his technique became more comprehensive and proficient.
From initially barely fending off attacks to later being able to hold his own.
In the morning, he was mostly outmatched, but in the afternoon he occasionally managed to subdue Natasha through his physical advantage. Although he lost more than he won, his progress was evident.
At the end of the day's training, Natasha once again marveled at Luke's talent and even asked if he had thought about competing in professional jujutsu.
Luke politely declined. The reason he learned quickly was because the jujutsu cards stimulated his potential; he just had strong learning abilities, but talent is fixed. Once talent reaches its limit, it's hard to improve further.
At present, he wasn't clear how high his jujutsu talent was.
For example, his boxing talent had reached the level of a professional boxer, handling three to five ordinary people was no issue, but competing in professional boxing matches would make him an ordinary contestant at best. He would likely be outclassed, and there was a significant gap between him and top boxing champions.
And that gap was largely due to inherent talent beyond simply working hard.
After jujutsu practice, Luke had a barbecue meal, went home for a bath, relaxed, and slept soundly that night.
The next morning, after breakfast, Luke drove to the pet shop.
Living alone was quite boring, and his place wasn't small, so having a pet would liven things up.
Pierdon Street.
This was a street lined with pet shops.
From south to north, there were pet shops, animal hospitals, pet grooming, hairdressing, and more.
Mostly cats and dogs, but there were also reptiles, snakes, lizards, etc.
Out of curiosity, Luke went in to take a look. He wasn't very scared of reptiles, but keeping them at home always felt awkward; they were cold-blooded and didn't exactly liven up the place.
Luke browsed the dog shops. Dogs weren't a bad option, and he even had a Dog Training Card, but the key issue was that he was too busy to care for one.
Luke decided to wait and see, and would revisit the idea when the timing was more appropriate.
In the end, he went to the fish pet shop.
Keeping fish was relatively worry-free: watch and feed them when you have time, not too much trouble when you're busy.
At least they were living creatures that could add a little life to his home.
With that in mind, Luke started selecting an aquarium and fish.
Luke browsed around, and there were indeed many beautiful fish: Arowanas, Golden Arowanas, knifefish, parrotfish, flowerhorn cichlids, and so on.
Luke was dazzled by the choices, but his favorite was the Arowana. He asked an attendant and found out that fishkeeping was also skillful work; it wasn't as simple as keeping any fish you wanted.
Fish could fight and even eat each other; Arowanas could eat smaller fish, so they could only be kept with larger fish.
But Arowanas themselves grew quite large, capable of growing over a meter in length, necessitating a larger aquarium.
The attendant recommended an aquarium two meters long and 80 cm high, which was so large that Luke himself could take a bath inside.
The cost wasn't the primary issue; he was worried that cleaning the tank would be too much work.
In the end, he decided to keep small fish.
He bought an aquarium 100 cm long, 40 cm wide, and 60 cm high.
He chose small ornamental fish: guppies, Mary fish, glowlight tetras, zebrafish, redtail black sharks, and also got two small turtles.
