Chapter 63: Void Scavenging
Rosen sensed the changes in his extraordinary source essence. The golden card in his heart now held five skills, the newest of which came from the Actor's Mask, which had copied an extraordinary skill from Lynn.
Since Lynn only had one innate skill, the Actor's Mask had no other option but to copy that one.
Rosen had anticipated this, which was why, when he gave Lynn the hunter potion, the core material used for the potion came from a discarded piece of trash, a tiny fingernail-sized scrap he found in a trash bin. As a result, Lynn had taken the path of the Scavenger Hunter.
The first extraordinary ability of a Scavenger Hunter is always related to scavenging. Some have increased success rates for hunting abilities, while others gain special treasure-hunting skills.
Rosen carefully examined his newly acquired ability, which was Void Scavenging.
This ability allowed him to remotely collect any unowned objects within his spiritual sensing range, storing them in a personal scavenging space.
In a way, it was similar to the "auto-loot" feature in a video game.
However, it would be far too weak if that was all there was to it. Thankfully, Void Scavenging had another feature: the more valuable the items stored in the scavenging space, the more it would enhance Rosen's spiritual senses.
Without hesitation, Rosen transferred all his valuable resources into his scavenging space and then checked his current impressive stats:
[Rosen: Human of the Golden Era]
Age: 18
Professions: Noble Sequence 9, Painter Sequence 9, Hunter Sequence 9
Extraordinary Source Essence: Painter, Hunter
Spiritual Energy: 9 (7 from Spiritual Awakening + 2 from Bloodline Glory)
Bloodline: None
Talents: Bloodline Glory
Innate Abilities: Honor's Vault, Spiritual Attachment, Divine Brush, Mind Canvas, Nen Ability, Void Scavenging
Acquired Abilities: Divine Beast Pen LV1, Honor Blood Seal LV2, Death Strike LV1, Shadow Meld LV2, Supernatural Five Senses LV1
Extraordinary Items: Secret Room of the Gods (Unknown), Main God Computer (Sequence 9), Hunter x Hunter Realm (Sealed), Divine Brush, Source Essence Hunting Belt, Source Essence Actor's Mask
Territory: Divine Realm Territory (Alchemical Castle)
Rosen had more innate abilities than acquired ones, making him an almost unique case.
All his innate abilities were at Level 1, and their strength would naturally increase as his extraordinary sequences advanced. However, his acquired abilities, except for Shadow Meld, which had been boosted to Level 2 by the Hunting Belt, were still only at Level 1.
Rosen's next priority was to improve these abilities to Level 2 so that both his Painter and Hunter sequences would reach the optimal state for advancing to Sequence 8.
He decided to start by upgrading the Honor Blood Seal, which would be the easiest to improve. At the Artist Guild, he posted a bounty for an instructor.
That very afternoon, a Sequence 9 Painter specializing in portraiture arrived to teach him.
Unfortunately, Rosen didn't get the luxury of having a beautiful tutor, which allowed him to focus entirely on mastering portrait techniques.
With his Spiritual Canvas, he already had a natural advantage when it came to drawing living subjects. Coupled with the instructor's comprehensive teachings, Rosen's portrait skills rapidly improved.
After two weeks, his spiritual energy returned to 10, and his Honor Blood Seal successfully upgraded to Level 2.
[Honor Blood Seal LV2: Imprints a noble seal onto spiritual artworks, enhancing them with the seal's properties. Can be used to increase compatibility between spiritual artworks and the Divine Realm, as well as increase the attributes of portrait-based works by 20%.]
Special Trait: Seal imprints now have sealing effects.
Rosen was particularly interested in the sealing trait.
Every Painter sequence has at least one acquired ability that gains sealing traits at Level 2, without which the entire sequence would be considered crippled.
With the sealing trait, Rosen could seal both inanimate and living objects within his spiritual artworks.
For now, though, the sealing ability was weak, only effective on things whose spiritual energy was one-tenth of his own. To seal opponents of the same level or during combat would require future abilities that further enhanced the sealing trait.
After leaving the Artist Guild, Rosen decided to take a calculated risk and switched to his Hunter identity before heading to the Hunter Guild.
Wearing the Actor's Mask while walking into the guild gave him a sense of excitement, like a mouse wandering into a lion's den. But it was a necessary step.
As he entered the Hunter Guild, he activated his Supernatural Five Senses, focusing on hearing.
This ability allowed him to sharpen a single sense to extraordinary levels. Rosen's enhanced hearing now rivaled that of a Sequence 8.
With the newly acquired Void Scavenging skill and the massive wealth stored in his scavenging space, including tens of thousands of spiritual crystals and the Waverider ship, his spiritual perception had increased to rival that of a Sequence 7.
Rosen wanted to test whether any of the hunters could see through the disguise provided by his Actor's Mask.
After wandering around the guild for half a day, no one seemed to suspect a thing.
It became clear that he had been overly cautious. The Actor's Mask, after all, was a Sequence 7 Source Essence item, and unless a Sequence 6 hunter actively tried to expose him, the chances of being caught by anyone at Sequence 7 or below were slim.
Feeling more confident, Rosen officially joined the Hunter Guild and posted bounties for three different skill instructors.
Soon enough, three Sequence 7 hunters arrived, and Rosen had already prepared tickets to a minor realm.
This unnamed minor realm, designated by number, had long been stripped of valuable resources. However, after being modified by the Hunter Guild, it had become a training ground, perfect for honing abilities. Most Sequence 9 hunters trained there to master their skills.
After being transported into the minor realm, Rosen and the instructors found themselves in a special forest.
The realm's teleportation system was precise, suggesting that the guild had complete control over it.
Around them was a barren forest, where the scorching sun had withered most of the trees. With the lack of leaves, shadows were scarce, making it difficult for Rosen to fully utilize Shadow Meld.
The three Sequence 7 hunter instructors vanished into the background, lying in wait to ambush him.
Rosen enhanced his hearing and vision, quickly detecting the incoming arrows and bullets from all directions. But while he dodged the first volley, the second had already been anticipated, sealing off his escape route.
In an instant, he was hit by dozens of bullets and a few arrows, each impact sending waves of searing pain through his body.
The training equipment used in the realm was designed not to cause any real damage but to induce intense pain.
Rosen dashed through the forest, enduring a barrage of attacks. He had paid a fortune to be pummeled this severely.
It was only by facing Sequence 7 hunters head-on that Rosen truly grasped the enormous gap between sequences.
He also realized how weak his foundations were. Before being transported into this world, he had been a normal person, and even after his arrival, he had primarily focused on developing his Painter sequence. His Hunter skills had mostly been used in the safety of the Secret Room of the Gods for sneak attacks.
If Rosen wanted to become a true hunter, he needed far more training to compensate for his weak foundation.
After half an hour, the three Sequence 7 hunters looked at Rosen with mixed expressions.
For someone with such poor fundamentals, his skills were anything but ordinary.
And to have the resources to simultaneously hire three instructors—clearly, Rosen came from a privileged background. He must be some noble's spoiled son who had suddenly decided to change his ways.
Given Rosen's lack of basic skills, the instructors devised an intense, grueling training regime.
Rosen's days became filled with nonstop training. Mornings were dedicated to practicing marksmanship, afternoons were spent mastering evasion and stealth, and evenings focused on sharpening his Supernatural Five Senses.
