Chapter 32: Inherited Nen Tool
"A tracking-type Nen ability, huh?"
Rosen looked at the increasingly anxious Nurdin, now understanding the situation. With his Hunter Magic Eyes, Rosen could leave a spiritual mark on Nurdin, easily countering his invisibility. So it wasn't surprising that other Nen users could also track him.
However, the fact that Nurdin had survived for so long meant that the pursuer wasn't exceptionally powerful either. It made sense—Greed Island was mostly a training ground for novice Nen users. Any strong Nen user with a shred of caution would steer clear of the island, knowing it was a space built entirely on Nen. Entering it meant stepping into another Nen master's domain, which was risky. Without a compelling reason, more experienced Nen users stayed away.
Thus, Greed Island remained a battleground for fledglings, even ten years later.
After lunch, Rosen took Nurdin to Rose Castle. Though small, the castle had all the essentials, including a dungeon in the basement. Initially, Nurdin seemed pleased to be in the castle, but when he realized he was being thrown into a cell, his attitude changed to anger.
Nurdin tried to protest, but every time he opened his mouth, Rosen's Godslayer Crossbow would tap the back of his head.
"Endure for now," Rosen said coldly as he left. "Once I find a way to control you, I'll let you out."
This was enough to completely crush Nurdin's will.
Rosen knew that Nurdin only intended to use him to kill his pursuers. Once the danger was gone, Nurdin would surely flee at the first opportunity. Relying on him to keep his word was a foolish fantasy.
So until Rosen found a way to control Nurdin, he wasn't going to release him. While Nurdin's invisibility was good for survival, his overall Nen strength was weak. The reinforced dungeon would easily hold him.
Rosen spent five days in Rose Castle without returning to the real world. Finally, one night, the Hunter Magic Eyes spotted someone sneaking toward the castle under the cover of darkness.
The intruder held a dagger, his nose twitching and his ears constantly shifting, as if sensing something. This person moved skillfully through the moonless night, avoiding every obstacle with ease. Clearly, he had enhanced senses, which explained how he kept finding Nurdin's hiding spots.
But this person was also likely a novice, considering Nurdin had managed to escape repeatedly.
Rosen didn't want to injure the intruder too severely—he needed him alive to be Nurdin's cellmate. Activating Shadow Step, Rosen melded into the darkness and slipped behind the intruder.
Whack!
With a swift slap to the back of the head, Rosen knocked the man out cold. He then grabbed him by the collar and dragged him to the castle's dungeon, tossing him into the cell next to Nurdin's.
Before leaving, Rosen searched the man, catching a faint whiff of gunpowder. As expected, he found a gun, several grenades, and a strange, faceless doll pendant around the man's neck.
Rosen returned to his bedroom, tossing the gun and grenades into a drawer, but he was intrigued by the doll pendant. It radiated a strong Nen aura.
In the Hunter's World, ordinary items could absorb faint Nen energy from their users. But for something to contain this much Nen, it had to be related to a powerful Nen user.
After half an hour of studying it, Rosen couldn't determine its purpose. Lacking expertise in this area, he decided to use his spiritual energy to convert the pendant.
By gauging how much spiritual energy was required, he could estimate the item's value. Plus, once converted into an extraordinary item, the Main God Computer would be able to analyze its properties.
When Rosen saw that it required 5,000 units of spiritual energy, he was both surprised and delighted.
He quickly pulled out the spiritual crystals and extraordinary essences he had collected through hunting, feeding 5,000 units of spiritual energy into the Full-Time Hunter Realm. Once the doll pendant was converted, he used the Main God Computer to analyze its attributes.
Not only did the computer reveal the pendant's abilities, but it also uncovered its history.
The pendant was a Nen tool passed down through generations.
The original owner was a highly skilled assassin with a unique Nen ability that enhanced his five senses. He could amplify one sense while reducing the others, even to the extreme of enhancing one sense by five times while reducing the others to zero.
But that wasn't all—he had also developed a Nen ability to block an enemy's senses. However, for every sense he blocked in his enemy, he had to double the reduction in his own senses. This was a strict limitation he imposed on his Nen, in exchange for significantly increasing its power.
This assassin became notorious, but his downfall came when he encountered a brute with raw Enhancement abilities. The enhancer lost all his senses, but when the assassin approached for the kill, the man flailed wildly, striking the assassin to death with sheer force. The assassin's ability to manipulate senses became useless in the face of brute strength.
The assassin's intense hatred and regret upon dying caused his Nen to persist, attaching itself to the doll pendant he carried. Over time, the pendant became a Nen tool, passed down from one assassin to the next.
Any assassin who owned the pendant would be imbued with its Nen energy, gradually opening their aura nodes and influencing their own Nen abilities, often developing the same sensory enhancement powers.
When the owner died, their Nen would be absorbed into the pendant, adding to its growing power.
By the time the pendant reached its last owner, it had been passed through dozens of assassins, accumulating substantial Nen energy. In the right hands, it could drastically enhance the user's five senses. However, none of the previous owners had been strong enough to fully unlock its potential.
Now that the pendant had been transformed into an extraordinary item, it offered Rosen two possible uses:
He could use it as a tool to temporarily enhance his own senses to extraordinary levels. Alternatively, he could give it to a target and then use the Godslayer Crossbow to hunt them. If the crossbow's hunting ability is activated, the pendant might be converted into a Hunter Sequence skill crystal.
Rosen pondered these possibilities while looking at the Main God Computer. It seemed the computer had grown stronger alongside his spiritual development. Early on, it wouldn't have been able to provide such a detailed analysis.
It appeared that as Rosen's spiritual energy increased, so did the power of this extraordinary item.
