Lord: Sequence Master

Chapter 18: The Noble Lord

"What a huge harvest!" Rosen exclaimed as he inventoried his spoils and activated the Main God Computer through his retinas.

This was one of the unintended uses he had discovered: the exclusive interface of the Main God Computer could display his detailed attributes, including all the treasures he possessed, and it provided a pretty good identification function.

Moreover, as his sequence rank increased, the Main God Computer would also upgrade and improve in all aspects.

Using the Main God Computer, Rosen quickly identified the pile of unfamiliar items before him.

The second most valuable was undoubtedly the Extraordinary Source Essence, the core of any extraordinary sequence.

Absorbing and fusing the Extraordinary Source Essence from someone of the same sequence was the quickest way to ascend the ranks without needing a potion.

However, since this was the Source Essence extracted from a corpse, it carried the deceased's lingering obsessions and negative spiritual energies, making it easy to trigger resentment from the deity tied to the sequence's origin. Directly fusing such a Source Essence risked leading to madness and mutation.

Only those with no other options, whose paths were blocked, would risk their lives by attempting to fuse Source Essence.

Typically, this type of Source Essence was used to craft high-quality extraordinary artifacts.

Since Rosen lacked the connections and expertise to craft such items, he decided to toss the Extraordinary Source Essence into the Hunter x Hunter spirit realm.

At his peak, Bennett's spiritual strength reached sixteen points, but even though his Source Essence was damaged and he had fallen to Sequence 9, it still contained the power of Sequence 8. After being absorbed and converted by the spirit realm, it yielded 1,150 units of spiritual energy.

There were also a few spiritual crystals, a byproduct of the Hunting ability refining Bennett's body for spiritual energy. These crystals contained roughly 200 units of spiritual energy, but unlike the Source Essence, Rosen kept these aside. Spiritual crystals were hard currency, useful for purchasing rare extraordinary resources that couldn't be bought with gold alone.

Rosen then picked up an eye—Bennett's left eye.

It had fused with Bennett's mastery of Eagle Eye and carried his lingering unwillingness to die without having detected his enemy. Refined by Rosen's Hunting ability, this eye had transformed into a natural extraordinary artifact.

[Bennett's Eagle Eye: Extraordinary Artifact]

[Level: Sequence 9]

[Attributes: Greatly enhances visual perception, can mark targets to briefly share vision, and can track spiritual traces.]

Rosen summoned his God-Slaying Crossbow and placed Bennett's Eagle Eye in front of the Hunter Magic Eyes.

His crossbow hadn't performed well earlier, but that wasn't because his Nen ability was weak. It was because the Hunter Magic Eyes was still in its initial state. Since the Hunter Magic Eyes was more like a living Nen beast rather than a mere object, it could theoretically refine and absorb certain special extraordinary artifacts.

Sure enough, the Hunter Magic Eyes was interested in Bennett's Eagle Eye.

A crack opened across the surface of the eye, revealing rows of sharp teeth that chomped down on Bennett's Eagle Eye, swallowing it whole. After some chewing and refining, the Hunter Magic Eyes quickly inherited all of Bennett's Eagle Eye's properties.

Rosen continued sorting through his loot. He found a pair of damaged displacement boots and Bennett's Judgment Revolver, as well as a fully intact elemental shield necklace. He discarded the broken boots and revolver, keeping the shield necklace for himself.

Finally, he held up what could be considered the most significant prize brought by his Hunting ability.

Most of the loot so far, like Bennett's Eagle Eye, was predictable—items that would drop from his body anyway, merely made easier to collect by the Hunting ability. However, the special skill crystal he now held was something far more valuable, forged from the fusion of Bennett's spiritual energy and extraordinary powers.

This crystal had not only absorbed one of Bennett's Sequence 8 extraordinary abilities, but it had also incorporated the essence of the Sequence 7 Bloodline Compass, resulting in this unique skill crystal—the highest-value treasure from Bennett's remains.

[Skill Crystal: Noble's Vault]

[Sequence: Noble Sequence 9]

[Attributes: Protects one's bloodline, tracks individuals of the same bloodline, and condenses a "Noble Vault" from one's bloodline.]

[Analysis: A combination of the extraordinary ability "Hidden Vault" from a Sequence 8 Hunter, and the remnants of the Sequence 7 Bloodline Compass, which contained damaged Noble Sequence 7 Source Essence. Refined into a unique skill crystal through the Hunting ability.]

Rosen swallowed the skill crystal, biting his tongue to let his blood soak into it.

The red crystal quickly dissolved into a thick liquid that flowed down his throat and spread through his entire body, eventually merging with his noble bloodline and disappearing. At that moment, Rosen gained mastery of the Bloodline Glory skill.

The bloodline protection ability was straightforward: tools like the Bloodline Compass would find it difficult to track him in the future.

He could also now control whether his bloodline was passed on—a rather useful "birth control" ability.

The bloodline tracking ability allowed him to track individuals with the same bloodline by marking them with a drop of his blood. Though it wasn't the best tracking method, its true value lay in locating blood relatives—something irrelevant to him, as Rosen's family was already extinct.

What Rosen really valued was the Noble Vault—an extraordinary ability that allowed him to create a personal storage space. Bennett had stored plenty of wealth in his Hidden Vault, which vanished upon his death.

With the Noble Vault, Rosen could now create his own portable storage space—a life space, no less.

Any living creature trapped within the Noble Vault would either have to submit to his noble glory and become his subordinate or die within, becoming nourishment for the vault. If the Noble Vault grew powerful enough, it could one day help him become a Lord of the Divine Realm.

The Noble Sequence wasn't the strongest extraordinary sequence simply because it raised one's spiritual limit.

Before Sequence 6, the Noble Sequence mostly involved personal enhancement. But once one reached Sequence 6, every noble could advance to a Divine Domain Lord, governing their territory. If their subordinates died in the real world, they could be resurrected in the lord's divine realm as heroic spirits.

Every high-ranking noble was essentially a walking territory, with an army at their disposal.

Normally, a Sequence 7 noble's Source Essence wouldn't be capable of producing a seed of divine domain power like the Noble Vault.

Rosen suspected that the owner of the Source Essence had once been a Sequence 6 noble lord. Something must have gone wrong during their ascension, leading to their death. Their Source Essence was then severely damaged and repurposed into the Bloodline Compass, a Sequence 7 tool.

Due to the heavy damage, the Source Essence had been converted into a mere Sequence 9 skill crystal.

But this turned out to be good news for Rosen. If the crystal had been of a higher level, he wouldn't have been able to wield it. Now that he had the Noble Vault ability, he could start developing his own domain early—potentially achieving the power of a Divine Domain Lord without relying on the Noble Sequence.

The Noble Sequence was notoriously difficult to advance. Just look at the ancestor of Rosen's family—after a lifetime of struggle, they had only earned the lowest rank of hereditary knight. Becoming a count was unimaginably harder, which showed just how precious the Noble Vault ability truly was.
