Lord: Sequence Master

Chapter 16: Hunting Divine Power

Rosen toyed with the God-Slayer Crossbow in his hand, briefly pondering the name he had given it.

It represented his ambition. If the World Government could slay five gods and develop five extraordinary Sequences, why couldn't he slay the sixth god and develop a sixth extraordinary Sequence?

Whether he could accomplish this was another matter entirely, but after transmigrating, how could he not harbor at least a shred of ambition?

The God-Slayer Crossbow rested in his palm at times, and at others, the gun barrel merged seamlessly into his arm, disappearing completely.

When held, it packed more power, but when fused with his arm, his fingers served as the muzzle. In this mode, the damage from bullets and arrows decreased slightly, but it was far more discreet—perfect for sudden, stealthy attacks.

In addition to these two attack modes, the God-Slayer Crossbow could also hover around him, automatically guarding, targeting, and eliminating enemies on its own.

Rosen experimented with the weapon for a while before opening the interface of his Main God computer, displayed on his retinas. He checked the detailed attributes of the God-Slayer Crossbow, and soon, all of its special abilities appeared before him:

[God-Slayer Crossbow LV1: All-type Nen Ability]

Attributes: Greatly enhances the damage of Nen energy and can store and carry all of the user's Nen energy.

Attachments: Hunter Magic Eyes, Artist's Magazine.

Passive: Virtual-Physical Transformation, Auto-Targeting, Basic Intelligence.

Extraordinary Ability: Hunting – Hunting spiritual beings, can mildly restore the user's spiritual energy, slightly increase their spirituality, and may grant additional rewards upon capturing spiritual essence.

"Hunting?" Rosen muttered, surprised by the newly acquired attribute.

The previous Nen abilities aligned with his expectations. The core of his ability revolved around the Hunter Magic Eyes and the Artist's Magazine.

The Hunter Magic Eyes could store eye-related techniques or new Nen abilities he might develop later.

Meanwhile, the Artist's Magazine allowed him to create special bullets and arrows. As his Painter Sequence advanced, it might even allow him to draw abilities from other Sequences and infuse them into his projectiles.

These two components were the foundation of his power. The Hunting ability, however, had developed on its own—unexpected but crucial.

Rosen carefully focused on the God-Slaying Crossbow and gradually understood. This ability came from the extraordinary essence of the Hunter Sequence.

The core of the Hunter Sequence was "hunting." Hunters thrived by pursuing their prey, using their skills to fulfill their needs. Since the Hunter Sequence originated from divine power, its essence naturally carried that divine attribute.

The Hunting ability wasn't exclusive to the God-Slayer Crossbow. It was inherent in all weapons associated with the Hunter Sequence.

Rosen's Hunting ability was particularly potent because it was tied to his spirituality.

With a spiritual energy cap of twelve points, and gaining an additional point with each sequence level, his Hunting ability grew about 9% stronger with each level. By the time he reached the legendary Sequence 0, his hunting prowess would be twice as powerful as others in his Sequence.

While all hunters shared this core Hunting ability, different weapons would produce unique effects. His Nen-based weapon, powered by life force and spirituality, would extract greater amounts of both from spiritual beings.

Now that he had the God-Slayer Crossbow, Rosen only needed ammunition.

He spared no effort, retrieving all his spiritual paper and immediately drawing several batches of chocolate beans. These chocolate beans, when consumed, could restore two points of spiritual energy without causing hunger. With a steady supply of spiritual energy, Rosen began crafting bullets and arrows one by one.

If he drew a simple bullet, it would deal basic damage to spiritual beings without any special effects. It would be nothing more than an ordinary bullet.

But to create bullets with unique effects, he had to meticulously illustrate the desired outcomes.

Rosen drew a bullet designed to ignite into flames upon impact. The more realistic the flames appeared in the painting, the stronger the fire effect would be when the drawing merged into the Artist's Magazine to generate the bullet.

After three days of work, Rosen had created thirty bullets.

Ten bullets featured explosive fire effects, ten had armor-piercing capabilities, and the last ten were laced with deadly poison.

He spent an additional two days drawing ten crossbow bolts. These larger projectiles could carry more Nen energy, allowing Rosen to amplify his Nen techniques. By injecting more energy, he could significantly increase their lethality.

Each of these bolts was designed for amplification.

Each one could double the damage output of Nen energy, making their destructive power even greater than that of the explosive bullets.

With his preparations complete, Rosen checked the time—it was midday. Satisfied with his progress, he lay down for a rest, preparing for the night ahead.

"It's time to finish Bennett once and for all," Rosen thought as he drifted off to sleep.

When Rosen awoke, full of confidence, he quietly left the mysterious study.

Under the cover of darkness, Rosen—having already infiltrated the outer city over the past few days—quickly arrived at a secluded spot.

He waited for more than five minutes, then activated the door to the mysterious study, which opened after nine seconds.

Once inside, Rosen opened the window and prepared for his ambush.

He loaded the crossbow and chambered the bullets. At the same time, his spiritual energy and Nen flowed steadily into the God-Slayer Crossbow.

Finally, the Hunter Magic Eyes rotated, silently scanning the area through the window for any sign of Bennett.

Within a minute, the Hunter Magic Eye caught sight of a faint figure moving swiftly across the rooftops in the distance.

Rosen immediately recognized Bennett. He wasn't just moving quickly, covering dozens of meters per second, but he also had a weak invisibility ability. If not for the Hunter Magic Eye's ability to detect life force, Rosen might not have noticed him at all.

Standing on a rooftop, Bennett activated his Eagle-Eye technique. His vision sharpened like a hawk's, allowing him to scan the area with precision.

Bennett had been tracking Rosen for months. Though he had confirmed that Rosen hadn't left Redstone City, he had yet to lay eyes on him. Frustrated, Bennett had resorted to staking out the train station, hoping Rosen would make a break for it.

As a newly advanced Sequence 9, Rosen couldn't have escaped the Bloodline Compass's tracking.

Bennett reasoned that Rosen must have been using some kind of valuable heirloom from his declining family to block the compass. With the Ashes surrounding the city, preventing any escape, Rosen was undoubtedly still hiding in the city.

However, using a relic beyond one's Sequence always comes with a price.

Bennett had already experienced backlash from using the Bloodline Compass over the past few days. The artifact shielding Rosen from the compass was likely at least a Sequence 7 relic. If Rosen had been using it as a Sequence 9, it was only a matter of time before he reached his limit.

Tonight, Bennett was certain Rosen had surfaced again, and this time, he was determined to capture him.
