Lord Evolution: Starting With Overpowered Sacrifice System

Chapter 58: A new territory (6)

Time appeared to slow down dramatically on the battlefield at that moment.

The dramatic sight of Ragnar fleeing from the flying monsterborn and the humanoid monsterborn's hands smashing toward a helpless Noah seemed to slow the flow of time.

Noah had already begun giving up.

In his current position, there was nothing he could do.

How would Merlina and Ragnar feel about his death? He wondered.

But just then, "Stone Golem! Charge!" Ragnar's voice tore through the dramatic climax.

The very next second, a stone golem appeared in front of Noah, using its large and sturdy body to defend him.

BOOM!

The humanoid monsterborn's hands collided with the golem's sturdy body. The force behind the attack easily smashed through the head of the unfortunate stone golem, shattering it as it crumbled into rocky bits.

The humanoid monsterborn let out a stunned squeak. Of course, it wasn't expecting a golem to appear and take the brunt of its attack. It had already made up its mind that there was no way the human could defend himself. But it couldn't have been more wrong.

On the other hand, using his opponent's distraction, Noah triggered all his strength and lifted his weakened body.

He charged with all his might at the stunned humanoid monsterborn.

Arriving before it, he stabbed his sword into its chest.

A low growl was heard.

The humanoid monsterborn, towering in height, grumbled as it knelt on the ground, reaching the cold eyes of Noah whose blade was still buried in its chest.

Noah mercilessly withdrew his sword from its chest and chopped its head off. The head landed on the ground. Blood sprayed from its severed arteries, bathing Noah.

Noah wiped the blood off his face with his free hand and looked at the remains of the stone golem whom Ragnar had sacrificed to save his life. A solemn expression crept across his features.

He then turned to the battle between Ragnar and the flying monsterborn.

SQUEAK!

The flying monsterborn let out a loud cry, lamenting the death of its colleague and venting out its frustration on the human toying with him.

It furiously descended from its current flight height and charged at Ragnar.

"Blazing Blade!"

Ragnar called out, activating his magic swordman skill for the first time. His blade was quickly engulfed in bright flames.

In his grasp, the sword brimmed with power.

Ragnar grinned and, with an insane speed, blasted toward the huge flying monsterborn.

The two entities reduced the distance between them in a split second.

"DIE YOU UGLY BIRD!"

With a battle cry, Ragnar swung his flaming sword.

The flying monsterborn, caught off guard by the sudden attack, tried to evade. But its rage had clouded its senses, making it slow.

CLANG!

The blazing blade hit the monsterborn's body, searing through feathers and flesh. The monster shrieked in pain as its wing was severed from its body. It tumbled out of the sky, its heavy body smashing into the dirt. A sickening crunch was heard as it collided with the ground.

Ragnar landed a few feet from the fallen monsterborn, his sword still crackling with fire as he coldly walked towards it.

The flying monsterborn attempted to flee with its remaining wings but it was futile.

With a simple jump, Ragnar landed on its huge back and sprinted towards its vital point, its head.

The monsterborn tried shaking him off but Ragnar's balance and stamina had reached a level to ignore the imbalance.

Once he reached his target, Ragnar lifted his blazing sword and severed the head from the large body. The huge body shivered for a few seconds before finally relaxing, never to shiver again forever.

Ragnar jumped down the huge body of his defeated opponent.

His gaze traced down to Noah who was watching him.

"He is badly injured," Noah noted.

He kept his sword in his inventory and equipped the last low-grade healing potion. He strolled to Noah and gave it to him.

"Thank you," Noah did not forget to show his appreciation before consuming the healing potion.

Ragnar nodded his head before his eyes turned to the remains of his fallen golem.

"I'm sorry," Noah suddenly apologized.

"Why are you apologizing?" Ragnar asked.

"If I wasn't weak, you wouldn't have needed to sacrifice your golem for me."

"Come off it, Noah," Ragnar frowned. "Your life is worth more than a single golem and even if I had to sacrifice the remaining golems, I would gladly do it to keep you alive."

Noah felt warmth in his heart hearing those words. Nonetheless, he still felt ashamed — this time, not because he had made Ragnar sacrifice his golem, but because he had cowardly accepted death earlier.

"These two should have monster cores in them since they were merged with one to become what they are. Help me check this one while I check out the other one."

For the next two minutes, Ragnar and Noah dug their blades into the body of their slain opponent.

Ragnar found a monster core.

But his eyes also caught something he had missed in the beginning.

"An insignia?"

On the forehead of the slain monsterborn, an insignia was tattooed — a cross with a two-headed serpent wrapped around it.

"Strange," Ragnar muttered with a frown.

"Is this the insignia of the ironhand gang?" He wondered, "But this doesn't have anything to with the name Ironhand in any way."

"Does the other monsterborn have the same insignia tattooed as well?" Ragnar went to the other monsterborn.

On the forehead, the same insignia was tattooed.

"What could these mean?" Ragnar placed his hand on his jaw and pondered.

Nevertheless, he could not come up with a good explanation so he let go of it. He took the monster core Noah found and stored it.

The two of them left the aftermath of their battle and found the hut the people had assigned for them to rest for the night.
