Chapter 179: The Province in Chaos

.

The enormous corpse of the corrupted creature was scattered everywhere, and the main culprit behind this massacre now stood at the center of the crater.

The five meter tall being maintained its horrid expression as it looked at the carcass before it with a devouring intent.

It rose into the air, reaching a height of fifty meters above the crater, and without wasting a moment, opened its mouth wide, wider than what should have been possible, and a strange black vortex began to form.

The vortex hovered just beyond the entrance of its mouth, and though it was small, the suction it produced was anything but weak, quite the opposite.

The moment it began to draw in, everything beneath trembled. Slowly, the ground started to lift, rising upward toward the being.

Branches and tree trunks, rocks, and massive chunks of earth, even the enormous corpse of the corrupted beast, were pulled upward and hurled toward the tiny vortex that looked like a black hole within the creature's maw.

Many of these things were enormous, far larger than the being itself. Yet, as they drew within about ten meters of it, a strange phenomenon occurred.

When those gigantic objects neared the vortex, the space around them seemed to distort, as though reality itself were being crushed by invisible pressure. The apparent gravity shifted, bending trees and stones into unnatural curves, while the very air rippled and vibrated in a tense silence.

Every fragment of soil, every scrap of debris, was slowly sucked toward the tiny black hole, their shapes stretching and twisting as they neared the vortex's heart.

Despite their immense size, all were drawn in without resistance, as if the force inside that strange being's mouth were an abyssal magnet capable of bending the laws of nature themselves.

The creature's enormous, corrupted body, shattered into countless pieces, now floated like a distorted shadow, folding under the growing pressure of the void.

Its limbs, tails, and scattered bones writhed in the air, dragged toward the center like tangled threads of dark smoke.

The scene was both mesmerizing and terrifying, a small vortex compared to the vastness of the crater, yet capable of swallowing everything that came close, compressing immense masses of matter into thin, elongated shapes that vanished within it.

And so, in less than a minute, the enormous crater that had become the serpentine creature's tomb was completely cleansed of debris, leaving behind only bare earth marked by the traces of a brutal battle seemingly long over.

Once the vortex finished consuming the creature, the boing closed its mouth but that wasn't all.

From the outside, it seemed as if everything drawn in had vanished into nothingness, but within, everything was further distorted, breaking apart into countless particles rich in energy, both pure natural Qi and the corrupt essence drawn from the serpentine creature's vast body.

There was an immense amount of it, proof of how powerful that beast had once been. Yet all of it was absorbed by the strange being, who wasted no time in taking it in. A satisfied gleam crossed his eyes as a blissful expression spread across his face.

He raised his head and roared, a sign of victory.

As he did, the corrupt energy that had not yet been absorbed surged into his body at incredible speed.

His form grew ever brighter, becoming semi-transparent and vivid, as though turning real.

Just like his body, his cultivation base seemed to leap forward, soaring past what had once appeared to be only the beginning of the Spirit Realm.

One could only imagine how powerful this being had now become, for he had already managed to slaughter with ease one who was well on the way to reaching the peak of the Spirit Realm.

Ordinary people would faint from fear if they saw such a sight.

Even many cultivators of the Spirit Realm would flee in terror. But who could have ever imagined that this twisted and terrifying being was none other than the nascent soul of a human cultivator who hadn't even shown a fraction of such power before?

Now that it was full, the creature began to dissolve, while within the crimson red core of the man's dantian, a shadow resembling its form reappeared.

The man in question, meanwhile, had completely ignored the small "meal" the creature had just consumed and was busy conversing with an old acquaintance.

"My Liege, this loyal servant welcomes you to this new world," said the woman with a bow.

Yet, contrary to what one might expect, her tone was far from formal, it even carried a faint trace of teasing.

"Tch, you seem to be enjoying my current state quite a lot, aren't you?" he said with an annoyed expression.

"I don't understand what you mean," replied the woman, her innocent look so convincing that even the heavens might have been fooled.

Had anyone outside seen such an expression from this woman, they would have slapped themselves a hundred times, just to make sense of what they were seeing.

This woman was known not merely as the right hand of the first human emperor, but for the sheer brutality and ruthlessness with which she had slaughtered millions upon millions of enemies during the darkest age of the continent.

Though most of those who fell to her hands were corrupted beings devoid of any humanity, the sight of them being massacred by this woman left an indelible mark on all who witnessed it.

For this very reason, had they seen her current expression, they would have preferred to distort their memories and believe the distorted version, rather than accept the fact that this divine beauty, could behave in such a playful way.

"Haa, it's good to see you're well, though I would have preferred if you had waited for me up there, not here," the man said.

"Impossible. I was born and live only to serve my creator. Why would I waste time waiting there when I can await your return here in peace?" she replied, her expression wounded.

Seeing her adorable act, the man could only shake his head and say,

"Haa, let's not dwell on the past.

Anyway, this is only a fragment of my consciousness, a recording, if you will.

The me of today is no longer the one you once knew, and even when he regains his memories, he may not be the same master you once served. That's why I've removed the mark binding you to me. Whether you wish to serve the new me or not will be your choice."

While the chaos within the secret realm was finally subsiding, the situation outside had only just begun.

An emergency meeting among the major powers of Qiyan City had resulted in a direct report to the Provincial Governor, whose expression darkened as he read it.

In recent months, he had received several reports of strange movements, some from minor families of Lushan Province, others concerning beasts.

The first seemed minor enough to be set aside. But the beast related reports could not be ignored, one in particular involved a beast tide, which, fortunately or perhaps not, had been stopped in time.

That incident was directly tied to a Spirit Realm creature that had appeared near the Yao family's mines.

After intense investigation, what they discovered only made matters worse.

The governor had been forced to travel personally to the imperial capital to report the matter to the emperor himself.

He had returned only recently and barely had time to rest before yet another troubling report arrived.

His secretary, standing beside him, could only shake her head as she handed him the document and summarized the situation.

The report detailed the entire incident, from the sudden appearance of the portal already mentioned at the beginning, to the subsequent series of disastrous events that had far exceeded all expectations.

According to the surviving witnesses from the secret realm, it was highly likely that the realm itself was the inheritance left behind by the first human emperor, a revelation that shocked the governor deeply.

Yet that was only the beginning.

He read on, reaching the account of the incident inside, caused by what survivors described as a Spirit Realm creature possibly connected to the being found within the cocoon less than a month earlier.

Then came the chaos that followed, the fury of the heavens, and finally, the appearance of that legendary figure.

When he reached that part, the governor stopped, rereading the line as if he couldn't believe his eyes, but it was written clearly.

The gravity of the situation had already reached new heights with the mere mention of the first human emperor, but to learn that his right hand, unseen for over a century, had reappeared was of enormous importance.

The governor could only swallow his frustration and prepare to depart once again for the imperial capital.

"In the name of the heavens, what the hell is happening in this province?" he muttered, his voice filled with fatigue and exasperation, before taking to the skies once more, soaring toward the horizon at full speed, unleashing all the power of a Spirit Realm cultivator.
