Chapter 5: 5. It’s a Trap
"Young Master!!"
Ye Xinghan was deep in thought, devising his plan to approach the Winged Dragon family, when a shout interrupted him. It was the chubby servant boy, sprinting toward him as fast as his stubby legs could carry him.
The boy's face lit up with an enthusiastic grin as he waved to Ye Xinghan, his round body bouncing with every step.
"Be careful!" Ye Xinghan shouted, but it was too late.
The boy's foot caught on a loose stone, and he stumbled forward. His plump body tumbled across the ground like a rolling ball before sprawling to a halt beside Ye Xinghan.
Is that even possible? Ye Xinghan's eye twitched in disbelief.
"Sigh, pay more attention next time," Ye Xinghan said, extending his hand to help the boy up. "So, what's so important?"
"Thank you, Young Master!" the chubby boy said, gratefully grabbing Ye Xinghan's hand and pulling himself upright. "Me and the other kids are planning to sneak into Holy Orchid Institute's training ground. Do you want to come with us?"
The boy's voice was brimming with excitement, his adventurous spirit shining through. Exploring the far reaches of Glory City was his greatest ambition, and this was his chance to achieve one of his dreams.
"WHAT?" Ye Xinghan's eyes nearly popped out of his head. These kids are way too bold!
Holy Orchid Institute was no ordinary school—it was the premier academy of Glory City, where fighters and demon spiritualists were trained. The institute divided its students based on talent and potential, with a special emphasis on its renowned training ground.
The training ground, built by the legendary demon spiritualist Lord Ye Mo (Ye Xinghan's grandfather) and the school's principal, was encircled by towering walls. Each year, experts from Glory City captured low-level demon beasts and released them into the training grounds.
The purpose? To provide students below the silver rank with a controlled environment where they could hunt demon beasts for materials and improve their skills—a win-win scenario for education and practical training.
However, even the weakest demon beast inside was far beyond what the kids could handle. Moreover, the training ground's entrance was heavily guarded, ensuring only qualified students could enter.
"Don't worry, Young Master!" the chubby boy said, puffing out his chest with pride. "We've already dug a hole under the tall wall. We don't need to go through the front!"
Ye Xinghan stared at the boy in exasperation. "THAT'S NOT THE POINT! What if you sneak in carelessly and end up face-to-face with a demon—"
Ye Xinghan's words trailed off as he fell silent.
A thought struck him.
Yes, that's it. What I need right now is a hidden place where I can train without the risk of exposing my power.
Why the secrecy? Because Ye Xinghan wasn't yet strong enough to take on the Dark Guild or the Sacred Family. Drawing too much attention to himself would be a death sentence—both organizations were long-standing enemies of the Snow Wind Family. If they perceived him as a threat, they would move swiftly to eliminate him before he had the chance to grow stronger.
Although Ye Xinghan didn't have much affection for the Snow Wind Family, their survival was tied to his own. If the family fell, he would be dragged down with them.
"Hmm…" Ye Xinghan's lips curled into a faint smile as a plan began to form in his mind.
The stronger the family, the safer he would be.
Assessing his options, Ye Xinghan decided that Holy Orchid Institute's training ground was the ideal hidden place for him. It was vast, with a dense forest of trees that would perfectly obscure his Devil Fruit abilities. Most importantly, it was highly unlikely that he would encounter other people there.
However, bringing the kids along would only create unnecessary trouble. Ye Xinghan wasn't confident he could protect them if something went wrong.
"You guys are truly remarkable—rare talents seen only once in a thousand years! With such potential, it wouldn't surprise me if you all made it big someday," Ye Xinghan said, clapping his hands and generously praising them.
"Yes, yes, yes, Young Master!" The chubby kid's head bobbed like a chicken, his eyes lighting up with pride. Am I really that amazing? he wondered to himself.
"Of course you are amazing. Now, tell me—where exactly did you dig this hole?" Ye Xinghan asked, flashing his most handsome and kind smile.
"Ahahaha! If Young Master goes down XXXXXX Street, take a left when you see the XXXX building. Behind the building, near the tall wall, you'll find some freshly dug soil covered with grass and a log. Just slide the log aside, and you'll see the small tunnel we made!" the chubby kid naively revealed the exact location without a second thought.
"Tsk tsk, I knew it the moment I saw you—you were hiding world-shattering talent inside you. And it turns out I was right," Ye Xinghan said, shaking his head and sighing in mock amazement.
The chubby kid beamed with pride, his mind spiraling into a daydream about the incredible future awaiting him. If Young Master says it, it must be true!
"HEAD SERVANT FENG!" Ye Xinghan suddenly called out.
A scar-faced man promptly arrived. "Yes, Young Master?"
"I want you to gather every strange herb in Glory City—spicy, sour, bitter, whatever you can find. Bring me samples of all of them. Oh, and get some meat from beasts, too. Edible or not, just bring small portions of everything," Ye Xinghan instructed, scribbling down details on a piece of paper before handing it to the servant.
"As you command, Young Master," the head servant replied, preparing to leave.
"Oh, and one more thing—take this fatty with you. He and the other kids were planning to sneak into Holy Orchid Institute's training ground. It's far too dangerous for them." Ye Xinghan's tone remained calm, betraying no hint of emotion. Now that the chubby kid had served his purpose, he was no longer useful.
The head servant's expression darkened at those words. These foolish kids are courting death by dragging the young master into such reckless action. He hadn't forgotten the consequences of the last accident.
"Rest assured, Young Master. I will ensure they don't bother you again," the servant said coldly as he grabbed the chubby kid by the collar.
"Well, no need to be too harsh. Just a spank or two will suffice," Ye Xinghan said nonchalantly, waving his hand in the same exaggerated manner the chubby kid had earlier.
The chubby kid, frozen in shock, snapped back to reality. "YOUNG MASTER!" he cried, bursting into tears. Just minutes ago, his young master had been showering him with praise, and now he'd been sold out! He couldn't comprehend why.
"Haha, no need to thank me!" Ye Xinghan replied cheerfully. Then, turning his gaze toward the training ground, he grinned.
"Now, let's rock!"
