Chapter 471: An old friend and Warzy's attack
The ship was safely sailing in the sky, the insignia of a raven flying freely in the wind, with its wings spread on sides like scythes. Serving both as a symbol and a warning.
Suddenly Rio opened his eyes and looked ahead in confusion, his nose wrinkled as it tried to locate the faint traces of a familiar aura.
His eyes shone in silver once more, and his gaze pierced through the clouds and landed on a figure flying on the sword like a banished immortal from some ancient myths.
With the hood covering half of his head, Rio couldn't see his face very clearly.
Suddenly as if the floating men sensed something, he too opened his eyes with a smile on his face. Before raising his left hand and waving it towards Rio.
As if greeting an old friend.
But the moment Rio saw the broken arm, burned flesh, and machined claws like fingers covered in violet runes, waving at him _ his face darkened upon realisation.
The hooded man was someone he knew. Someone whose fate he had changed years ago. And someone who came even closer to killing him than the foolish god Aelthar.
"Warzy attack."
Just then, before he could even warn everyone about the hidden enemy far away, Finn's voice echoed on the ship's deck alarming everyone.
The soldiers, the guards, and the shadows _ all rushed to their respective posts and drew their weapons and prepared their magic to meet with the four ships who suddenly appeared out of thin air and started surrounding them.
"Kill…"
"Kill…"
"Kill…"
Without saying anything or starting any nonsense about threats and demands _ the minions of warzy directly shouted their goal and started shooting their ship with magic missiles.
Rio raised his head to look at the sky where dozens of fireballs and lightening rays, all fell down with a shocking speed.
Colliding against the transperant barrier of defense, and making a sickening screeching sound.
Though the Raven's ship boasted beautiful defense, against the attack of four warships built by the arcadia's top criminal organisation, obviously it started showing cracks and signs of failing soon after.
"Communications are down."
"We can't contact the base."
"Severe damage to the barrier on the left side, 45° angle. Crackdown time due 2 minutes 20 seconds."
"Prepare for battle."
Different voices rang from every corner of the ship, and everyone's faces soon started to be filled with seriousness of the situation and worry for the unknown future.
"How dare these warzy bastards show their fangs to the Ravens. Enough playing, blast them back." Finn shouted in anger and immediately pressed the command button, relegating the defense himself and sending out a net of purple miasma towards the neighbouring ship.
This was a bomb shell filled with the deadly miasmic fog from the sea of silence. Compressed to the extreme, and experimented over and over to make it even more bio hazardous. Turning it into one of the world's deadliest poison.
It drifted like smoke...and then consumed like acid.
Screams erupted from one of the enemy ships as the gas crept over the deck, melting flesh, dissolving limbs, and collapsing lungs into shriveled sacs.
Obviously the other ships didn't just sit still and let Finn retaliate, the moment the shields were down for a second, dozens of armor clad figures jumped onto their ship like vultures, and started slaughtering whoever they came across.
Rio watched as metal and magic clashed against each other, forming pools of blood and pits of broken limbs on the battleship.
Seeing the massacre, Rebecca immediately teleported near weakened Rio, who hadn't even picked his sword yet and formed a barrier of water to cover him and little Tanya, hiding behind his feet. While Finn, Esme, and other few guards rushed to block the assassins and stop them from destroying the hull.
Rio ignored the fight, even the grand display of bombs and lasers flying across the sky, colliding mid air making glorious explosions and ear piercing sounds and shockwaves _ his attention however was following a slim figure appearing and disappearing amongst the various ships.
Amy didn't know when had slipped through these barriers and moved away on her own.
She was truly unstoppable, her power of space allowing her to teleport all around the battlefield. While clouds of chaos flew behind her dying the sky in a hazy glow and howling madness.
Wherever she passed, Rio could see trails of blood flooding the floors and corpses falling one by one. Each wound she carved, was another scream silenced.
Erza, her shadow, who did initially tried to follow her master into her crazy behaviour, but had somewhere along the line been left behind.
The noble vampire was truly letting out all her frustration and anger onto the enemies.
She was the weakest in the group, had the least possible potential _ and even earlier today, she nearly lost her life against Apate's minions, lest the twin shadows of princess didn't come forward to save her in time.
This was a blow not only to her pride and self esteem, but to her heart.
One which had fully ignited the thirst of blood in her eyes.
Rio watched intently as her hair danced wildly, and bodies around her started to shrivel up. The silky darkness of her hair had taken on the tinge of ruby red.
Each slash and stab of her dagger or fangs, drained the life out of her victims. The progress being extremely slow and painful ofcourse.
Same was the case with Amelia, - driven by carnage of chaos, she simply danced around the battlefield, bathing in blood with a manic smile on her face.
Rio could even see a shadow of Kali forming in the clouds behind her. As Amy kicked a kneeling man's head off his shoulder and opened her mouth wide to drink his blood as it fell down.
"...."
[.....]
Rio frowned seeing that scene of senseless anger, and hunger for blood in his sister's eyes. His nails dug deep into his palms as he glanced at the Nyx's mark on his hand coldly, and cursed in his heart.
(I will kill that bitch.)
{Apate simply initiated the chain, this reaction was something you should've expected when you agreed to let your sister choose Kali and chaos.}
Nyx's voice echoed in his ears, explaining her side as if she could read his thoughts without hearing them.
{And besides, you should know that if I want to protect her, no one will be able to lay a hand on her.}
(And you should know that if I want to kill her, even you won't be able to protect her.)
{....}
Rio ignored the goddess to her own thoughts and looked at his surroundings.
The situation wasn't looking good.
Rebecca was already struggling to hold back all the attacks aimed at him. So much so that she even left the barrier herself to meet the attackers halfway.
While her shadow sisters were getting pushed back, led a long distance away from her master.
Finn was already surrounded by a dozen assassins, and was fighting a bloody battle.
As for those no name guards and soldiers, Rio just casually swiped his eyes and saw them being butchered. Some of them were hit by those stray attacks and blasts from other ships, while others got thrown off balance by the shockwaves.
The few who were still standing, Rio could see, they wouldn't be for long.
Warzy had truly caught them off guard. And looking at their attacks, the damned terrorists seemed super prepared.
Even the environment around the ship was filled with various mists and static charges _ that anyone stepping into it would suffer some major backlash.
(System, are you sure there's nothing I can do?) Rio asked his companion again. Only to hear the same response of refusal.
[You have to trust me, host. Your body absolutely cannot handle anything at this moment.]
[Keeping you conscious and out of coma is already my limit.] System replied honestly.
(But I shouldn't be this weak, right?) Rio asked his question, (I mean, I know I over'd it earlier with the torture and all, but still _ it's been more than an hour, and I still feel like shit.)
(It's like someone snuffed the fire in my soul and left an amber to do it's job. _ it's making me feel hollow.)
As the system heard this response, it couldn't help but stiffen it's back. After all, the truth exactly wasn't so far from this analogy.
But not like it could tell Rio that it was the Devil who sucked him dry while performing his one shot snap.
So it lied.
[Defeating a God at his best does that for you, host. And if you forgot, he died not in your hands, but in your head, hence the mental strain.]
(Yeah, I get it.) Rio replied, remembering how he messed up, and let Aelthar pull the plug of possession, - it was a close call.
(Hey, I know it was my job nd all, but thanks for killing him and saving my ass.) Rio said, feeling a little bit grateful that he had someone to rely on.
While the system, who felt his feelings, only felt like a traitor, with the secrets he kept hiding.
[.... No problem.]
…
"Aha hahaha, you don't think I'm so easy to be killed, do you?" Finn angrily said with a sneer, seeing his opponents sharing mocking remarks, and arrogant looks which reflected them staring at a dead corpse.
"I'm Fine Raven, heir to the throne of silence. You insects dare…"
He wiped the blood from his lips and flicked his sword while kicking an assassin attacking from his back.
A plasma whip suddenly lashed across his cheek, silencing the bravado. Blood welled through his lips, but Finn's smirk deepened with a cold glint in his eyes.
"I'm the boss, you, war hungry bastards." He shouted atop his lungs, as he pressed a hand to his chest, where golden light pulsed beneath his skin.
Instantly the clouds churned, and a divine aura pushed away the chaos and bright light fell on Finn's figure. Spreading outwards in a circular frame until it covered all his opponents.
The assassins staggered as if their bodies forgot how to fight. Their spells and attacks midway started to disappear and harder to handle. Causing either self harm or explosions which were way off the target line.
The commotion attracted Rio's attention, and as he glanced at his cousin, he noticed an ethereal illusion of golden scales started to gather behind his back.
The Raven heir who was merely in B+ rank by now, and was struggling against a group of people who had all crossed the A+ rank boundary. And some even reaching the threshold of limit ranks.
But with this divine ability in play, even this huge disadvantage in strength and numbers, couldn't stop his counterattack.
The situation immediately started to turn for the better. And Rio couldn't help but nod his head at Finn's valiant efforts, as he remembered some of the plotlines related to this guy.
According to rumors, when the lady of Raven family was first pregnant, clouds churned with purple mist around the raven mansion, as a sign of auspicious birth.
Even on the day of Finn's delivery, thunder and rain fell down on Arcadia, as if to baptize the birth of a brilliant star.
It was only after he was born that people learned why it was so.
Like the xianxia novels have treasures of heavens like supreme bone, double pupils, sword heart, chaos body, and vada nada – on Arcadia, Finn was someone born with the shadow of the divine too.
An artifact lost by the lords of law had merged with him while he was still an unborn fetus.
The scale of equality.
With this artifact residing within him, Finn could open up a unique domain without even reaching the Arch ranks.
(ps, S - SSS rankers have their own domains. These ranks are collectively called Arch ranks.) refer ch.26
He could chant the spell, and carve out a piece of world whose laws are written by him. Where all beings are equal.
Rio watched as all the powerful awakeners suddenly fell by several ranks. and started with the same footing as Finn.
Finn's protector, the old men whose rank Rio couldn't even see, who was fighting quite a distance away from their ship against the two warzy generals, so the aftermath of their collision doesn't hurt their own members. – also turned his head and glanced at his young master in worry.
"Damn you, traitors. None of you will be left alive today." He shouted in anger, remembering how the Raven head especially ignored the rules of training shadows and chose him as Finn's guard - all just so that his divine ability could be kept a secret.
But now, to protect himself and others, Finn had to show it in the open.
Raven head would be furious.
And the only way to salvage this situation would be to kill all these people right here, so the secret can be somewhat controlled.
So the protector went on a rampage, causing damage without caring about anything or holding himself back.
"None of you will live." He shouted, as he inflicted a 1000 damage at others and suffered the self harm of 800 - yet the man still refused to back down.
"Arghhhh"
A scream suddenly echoed in the sky, forcing Rio to look up as he witnessed one of the assassins explode to pieces. Blasting Finn's protector to the ground.
While the other waved his hand and controlled the land to bury him in the crater.
The situation which had just shown signs of improving, immediately turned for the worst, as the powerful general from warzy was freed and came to join the battle on the ships.
"I've learned a few lessons, my old friend." The hooded man with a prosthetic arm, spoke as he watched the scene unfolding before him.
"This time wherever you run, I'll hunt. Whatever you love, I'll burn. - my revenge, will be cold."
