Chapter 107: Chubby in front of Absolute Jax
The arena had become a warzone.
Lilith's horn pulsed with purple energy. Her eyes blazed with violet fire. The shy, timid girl from before had vanished completely.
In her place stood something ancient. Something terrifying.
Draven scrambled to his feet, blood dripping from his lip. His draconic scales had spread across his entire body now, a desperate defense.
"What the hell are you?!" he screamed.
Lilith didn't answer.
She raised her hand, and a beam of purple energy tinged with green erupted from her palm.
FWOOOOM!
The blast carved a trench through the stone floor. Draven barely dodged, rolling to the side as the beam scorched the wall behind him.
The students went wild.
"Holy shit! See?! That's why I voted for her!"
"It's the same power from the entrance test! I told you all!"
"The academy tried to hide it, but look at her now!"
"I knew she was holding back! I fucking knew it!"
Jax watched with wide eyes.
'This girl... she's a monster.'
Draven countered with a massive fireball, pouring everything he had into it. The flames roared across the arena like a hungry sun.
Lilith met it head-on with her purple beam.
BOOM!
The collision created a shockwave that cracked the ground beneath them. Students stumbled backward. The air itself seemed to scream.
Neither side gave ground.
Fire against demon energy. Prince against half-blood.
Sparks flew. Stone shattered. The arena walls began to crumble.
'This is insane,' Jax thought. 'They're going to destroy the whole training ground.'
The deadlock held for ten seconds. Twenty. Thirty.
Both fighters were drenched in sweat. Their arms trembled. Mana poured out of them like water from a broken dam.
But neither would yield.
Finally, the beams dissipated. Both combatants stood gasping, barely able to stay upright.
Draven's scales were cracked and bleeding. His fire had dimmed to embers.
Lilith's horn flickered. Her legs shook.
They were both running on empty.
'It's a draw,' Jax thought. 'Damn.'
But Lilith wasn't done.
Her eyes hardened. Her jaw clenched.
'I won't lose. Not here. Not now. I can gain his appreciation here'
She gathered every last drop of mana in her body. Every ounce of demonic power she possessed.
It all condensed into her palm.
A sphere of purple energy formed small at first, then growing. And growing. And growing.
The air around her warped. The ground beneath her feet turned to ash.
Draven's eyes went wide with terror.
"W-Wait—!"
Lilith fired.
FWOOOOOOOM!
The blast was enormous. A pillar of purple destruction that consumed half the arena.
Draven stood frozen. His scales wouldn't save him. His fire wouldn't stop it.
He was going to die.
'SHIT!' Jax's mind screamed. 'She's actually going to kill him! Well that sounds good Go on girl'
But before the beam reached Draven—
WHOOOOSH!
A tornado appeared from nowhere.
It intercepted the blast, wrapping around it like a serpent. The purple energy was redirected upward—into the sky.
BOOM!
The beam exploded high above the arena. Purple particles rained down like cursed snowflakes.
Staff members rushed forward, casting shields over the students. The particles dissolved harmlessly against the barriers.
Jax's head snapped toward the source of the tornado.
Zharina.
Her hand was raised, wind magic swirling around her fingers.
'That bitch.'
Lilith collapsed.
Her horn faded. Her eyes returned to normal. She crumpled to the ground like a puppet with cut strings.
Jax rushed forward and grabbed her. He threw her over his shoulder like a potato sack and marched straight toward Zharina.
"What the fuck was that?!"
Zharina lowered her hand. "I stopped her from killing a student."
"She had him! The fight was over!"
"She was going to murder a prince."
"So?! He's an asshole!"
The students watched the argument with wide eyes. Even Draven, still trembling on the ground, looked up.
Zharina crossed her arms. "I made a judgment call."
"You interfered in our bet!"
"I saved a life."
"You're just scared your little champion lost!"
Silence.
Zharina's jaw tightened.
Jax stepped closer, Lilith still draped over his shoulder. "Admit it. My student won. Your student was about to become a smear on the floor. That's a loss."
A long pause.
Then, through gritted teeth: "...Fine. You win."
Jax grinned. "Sorry, what was that? I couldn't hear you."
"You. Win."
"Louder."
"YOU WIN, YOU INSUFFERABLE—"
"That's what I thought." He turned away, still grinning. "I'll send you a message when I'm ready to claim my reward. Don't go anywhere."
Zharina's face burned with humiliation.
Jax suddenly remembered the weight on his shoulder.
'Oh right. I'm carrying someone.'
He shifted Lilith and lifted her high above his head with both hands—like a trophy.
"BEHOLD!" he shouted to the students. "YOUR CHAMPION! THE GIRL WHO MADE AN ARROGANT BASTARD PISS IN HIS PANTS!"
The students erupted in cheers well some of them while others scared .
Jax looked at Lilith's face triumphantly—
She was completely unconscious. Drool leaked from her mouth. Her eyes had rolled back.
'...Shit.'
He lowered her quickly and slung her back over his shoulder.
"Right. Infirmary."
He started walking, then stopped.
He turned back to Zharina.
"Actually, you know what? I have zero interest in teaching these arrogant bastards."
Zharina blinked. "What?"
"This whole thing was just my ego talking. I don't actually want to run the class." He waved dismissively. "Continue with whatever weak training you were doing. I don't care."
"Then why—"
"But." He held up a finger. "Since I won, I reserve the right to give any training I want. Whenever I want. Like throwing them into a fire pit if I feel like it."
He walked away before she could respond.
Zharina stood frozen.
'What... just happened?'
She was confused. Pissed. And, though she'd never admit it, scared.
'Why should I be scared? No one heard the bet. He's just a nobody. Who would dare listen to him over me?'
But the unease lingered.
She wasn't the only one pissed.
High above the arena, in one of the observation towers, a figure watched through a window.
Well—it had been a window a moment ago.
Now it was just a frame filled with shattered glass.
The figure's hand was clenched so tight that blood dripped from her palm.
By the end of the day, Jax was exhausted.
He stretched his arms above his head as he walked out of the academy gates.
'What a day. Humiliated a prince. Won a bet. Discovered a demon. I need a drink. And a bed. Preferably with someone in it.'
He stopped at the pickup area and stared.
Hundreds of carriages lined the road. Each one collected professors or students, ferrying them to their residences across the island.
'Rich people and their rides.'
He waited.
And waited.
Finally, a modest carriage pulled up. A man stepped out and approached him.
"Professor Jax Rayne?"
Jax nodded.
The man bowed. He had pale skin, sharp features, and when he smiled, Jax spotted pointed teeth.
'Vampire. Or half-vampire.'
"I am your assigned driver, sir. Please, this way."
Jax climbed into the carriage but paused at the door.
"You're not going to bite me in my sleep, right?"
The driver's smile faltered. "I... no, sir."
"Good. Because I bite back."
The ride took about ten minutes.
When the carriage stopped, Jax stepped out and looked at his new home.
A two-story mansion with a garden. Not as grand as the places he'd stayed recently, but respectable.
He walked to the front door, expecting someone to greet him. A bow. A welcome. Something.
Nothing.
The driver stayed outside. The house was silent.
'Seriously?'
Jax explored the first floor. Kitchen. Empty. Living room. Empty. Dining room. Empty.
Finally, he found someone.
A man stood in the hallway holding a tray with a single glass of wine.
"Good evening, Professor," the man said with a bow. "I am Rudiger. I will be taking care of you during your stay."
Jax looked him over. Middle-aged. Formal. Servant written all over him.
'A manservant? That bitch Lysandra. I asked for a beautiful maid and she gives me this?'
He reached for the wine.
Rudiger pulled the tray back slightly. "My apologies, sir. I need to serve Lady Roxana first. One moment."
Jax froze.
"Lady who?"
"Lady Roxana, sir."
"Who do you serve? Me or her?"
Rudiger gulped. "W-Well, sir, she is your assistant professor. She arrived earlier and—"
"Take me to her. Now."
Rudiger led him upstairs, trembling slightly.
They stopped outside a door.
Jax pushed it open.
The room was a mess. Bra on the floor. Curtains drawn. The stench of alcohol hung in the air.
And on the couch—
A woman.
Magenta-tipped black hair. Pale skin. Sharp vampire teeth visible through her parted lips. Black eyes that looked perpetually hungover.
She wasn't beautiful. Not in the traditional sense.
But she was attractive. Thick thighs spilling out of tiny shorts. A soft stomach visible beneath her loose shirt. Chubby cheeks flushed from drinking.
Her leg was propped up on the table, revealing far more than was appropriate. Her shirt hung open, showing her wiggly breasts to some extend.
Five empty wine glasses sat on the table beside her.
She was completely wasted.
The old Jax would have stared. Would have let his eyes linger. Would have thought about all the things he could do.
But that Jax was gone.
His new Resolve had changed him. His patience. His ego. His absolute refusal to tolerate disrespect.
He walked forward, took the wine glass from Rudiger's tray—
And threw it directly in her face.
SPLASH!
Red wine dripped down her cheeks, soaking her shirt, staining the couch.
Her eyes snapped open.
Jax stared down at her coldly.
