Leveling Up Wives In The Apocalypse

Chapter 358: Drawbacks of Norbert's wish

'Damn,' Mathew cursed in his thoughts as he brought himself up from the ground.

He initially expected that he managed to avoid getting soiled all over by the monster's insides. Yet, as it turned out, the ground all around him was covered in the monster's blue blood, indicating that his back was in the same state.

"Well, all's good that ends well," the young man muttered, raising his eyes to the slight steam raising from the opened-up corpse of the lobster.

'Back a few days ago, this would be enough to make me throw out,' Mathew thought, staring at the strangely boiling insides indicating not all of the pressure managed to escape during the explosion.

"Is it over?" Carol asked as she stood up from the ground. She ended up in one of the few lucky spots that avoided the splash of the monster's flesh and blood.

The girl stood up, tapped some dirt off her knees before looking around.

"You three, are you okay?" Mathew shouted out loud, feeling the first tingle of panic when he couldn't spot any of his three primary wives.

"I'm alright!" Nadia shouted from dangerously close to the monster's carcass.

"We are fine too," another report came when a huge blob of blue exploded outwards, only to turn out to be Daria's shadowy form that the girl used to protect her and Leila from the explosion.

"Then, all that's left in the call is…" Mathew turned around, facing the direction where the monster's body exploded at.

It was a pretty bad sight. An entire street was covered with slimy parts of flesh. Thanks to the street's structure, most of the blood would flow down to the sides of the streets only to gather around the gutters.

'Right, without the city service, it's pretty normal for the sevage to be blocked already,' Mathew thought, puzzled by how the blue blood refused to drain away.

The young man then shook his head and turned his eyes towards a specific spot on the blood covered street.

A spot from where Norbert took the shot that saved them from taking the full brunt of the monster's explosion.

"Where is Norbert?" Mathew asked in a half-voice as the sad reality dawned upon him.

He was lying down on the street when he took the shot. That alone should somewhat reduce the extend of the explosion that could damage him.

And yet, there was no movement from anywhere around that would indicate Norbert's presence.

"Where is he?!" Mathew then shouted a bit louder, forcing his extremely exhausted body to move up as he started to crawl towards the officer's last known position.

"Hey, let me help," Nadia quickly appeared by Mathew's side, sneaking underneath his arm as she then helped him to stand up. She then assisted Mathew from the side, ensuring he wouldn't fall back to the ground.

'It's a wonder I can keep myself awake at this point,' Mathew thought, perfectly aware of the consequences of using all of his mana. And as he took a quick look at his system, the reality of the situation revealed itself to his eyes.

[Mind 100(2/100)<317>]

The hundred stood for the maximum applicable level of his mind statistic. The numbers within the first set of brackets described his current mana… while the number within the second bracket showcased the true level of his mind statistics.

For some reason, this was the only statistic of Mathew's status that wasn't cut short by the limits of Mathew's class.

Or rather, while Mathew would likely be unable to cast any spell that took more than a hundred points of mana, the total pool of mana he could use corresponded to his total statistic rather than the limited one.

As such, after casting a total of four penetrating spells and three protective veils, he used three hundred and fifteen points of mana, leaving him with only two left to spare.

'I wouldn't even be able to fire that last shot if not for the girls leveling up,' Mathew thought, as he glanced over to the side, at the profile of Nadia's face.

Maybe it was the heat of the battle. Maybe it was the extremely bold look that Nadia got from the blue blood marking her face and clothes. Or maybe it was just some sort of an aura that surrounded her…

But right now, just by looking at the side of the girl's face, Mathew couldn't help but imagine getting behind her, pushing her upper body against the ground before riding her ass till his satisfaction.

'Mathew, stop,' the young man quickly lectured himself as he gulped down all his lust. 'This isn't the time for that. And it would be fair for Leila…' he thought, turning his eyes to the two of his wives that joined the two of them and walked just a step behind.

Leila's hair was all over her face. Some parts of it were stained with blue blood. Her face was filled with exhaustion mixing with relief… and the same, strange allure that Mathew could see in Nadia.

He turned his eyes to Daria, only to observe exactly the same thing.

'Am I just horny after a battle?' Mathew then asked himself, only to shake his head and chase all those thoughts away when Nadia suddenly stopped.

"That's where he was when the explosion happened," Nadia said as he looked down at the marks left on the ground.

There weren't all that many clues in place, just a different patter in which the blood splattered on the ground.

And yet, for Nadia's eyes, those marks were as clear as the hints that game developers would put in their role playing games for the detective quest times.

"He dragged himself away in that direction," Nadia quickly found the answer she was looking for before raising her head and looking around the path only she could see.

Mathew followed the girl's example and forced his chin up…

Only to see Norbert curled up by the side of the wall.

He sat right down with his knees curled up to his face. His arms were embracing the front of his legs, as if he was too scared to let them go.

'Is he okay?' Mathew thought, weirded by the unusual position he found the man in.

He expected to see him splattered against some wall. Maybe nailed down by a flying bone that unluckily ended up pinning him down to the ground.

Mathew even consireded the possibility of some stray piece of rubble kicked up by the storm of the explosion ending up as a projectile that would kill the officer…

But the position he was in made all those claims impossible. Because no matter how the explosion struck him, it would never be able to put Norbert in the position he was in.

"What's wrong with him?" Daria asked, confused by the situation to no end.

"I think I know," Carol stepped up from the very back of the ground as she approached her titular brother. "I saw some of his friends act like this when they returned from the war," she whispered as her face twisted in a complex expression.

"I DON'T HAVE FUCKING PTSD!" Norbert shouted, finally giving some signs that he was alive… although he didn't relax his posture at all.

"Then, what's wrong?" Mathew forced himself to ask as he gladly used Nadia's help to raise up from his hunched position.

"The voices… the sights…" Norbert muttered frantically. "I can't control them!"
