Chapter 899: Being Framed

Gu Huanhuan’s comeback was a threat to Qin Wan’er. She had assumed that Gu Huanhuan would make her comeback in a year or two, by which time the audience would most likely have forgotten about her.

But things didn’t go the way she thought. When she met Gu Huanhuan at the office, she went up to her with a forced smile and said, “Sister Huanhuan, it’s so great to see you in a new project again.”

Gu Huanhuan smiled back plainly. “You flatter me. Two of your new shows have just been released. All the best!”

Some people were just like oil and water. In Gu Huanhuan’s line of work, her only close friend was Shen Weiwei. She kept her distance from the others because in this industry, people get stabbed in the back all the time by their peers.

Qin Wan’er was quite pleased with herself. Indeed, she had been given great resources in her two shows. Both of them starred many other popular artistes. They would surely do well in terms of viewership and ratings.

“Yes, thank you. I still have much to learn from you.” Qin Wan’er said with fake sincerity.

Gu Huanhuan ignored her and went straight to the lounge. She wanted to rehearse her lines.

Qin Wan’er revealed a disdainful expression the moment Gu Huanhuan turned her back on her. What was there to be proud of? What’s so great about her? Many female artistes fade into non-existence after giving birth because they wanted to focus on family. She would open her eyes wide to see when Gu Huanhuan would become one of them.

She watched Gu Huanhuan walk away and pondered before she left the office.

As Gu Huanhuan was busy with her own matters, she didn’t pay much attention to Qin Wan’er’s expression.

Gu Huanhuan went home after she was done with her work, and the first thing she did was to hold Nuannuan. She had missed her dearly the whole day.

Very soon, Gu Huanhuan’s new project was kicked off and filming was about to begin. Fortunately, filming would be done in Bin City, so she wouldn’t take unnecessary time away from her daughter. Gu Huanhuan felt very fulfilled during this period.

One day when she got home after filming, Sister Gao called her and said anxiously, “Huanhuan, what’s going on? Have you seen the news? What are they reporting?”

Sister Gao didn’t believe what the news article said. The media always reported things out of context, but there were photos, which raised a few question marks for her.

“Sister Gao, don’t panic. What happened? I haven’t seen the news.” Gu Huanhuan was very confused. She didn’t know what was going on.

“You have been photographed hugging Lu Yiming.” Sister Gao said with frustration.

“What? How is that possible?” Sure, the male lead in her new project was Lu Yiming but she wasn’t the female lead. However, she had scenes with Lu Yiming and they just rehearsed one at noon today. But it was ridiculous to report that they were hugging each other. It was simply a fantasy.

However, Gu Huanhuan had to admit that Lu Yiming was a really good actor. He always got into character quickly and his acting would get his scene partners into characters very quickly too. He was an actor with real skills and Gu Huanhuan often asked him for advice.

But they had always been professional as both of them were married with kids. Gu Huanhuan couldn’t believe that a rumor like that about them would spread.

“Go see for yourself.” Sister Gao sighed. She had been Gu Huanhuan’s manager for so long and knew her well. Gu Huanhuan had most likely been framed.

After hanging up, Gu Huanhuan hurriedly clicked into an entertainment news website. As expected, she saw the photos right away.

The headline read “Sparks of Love between the Best Lead Actress and the King of Television?” Although the ambient lighting in the photo was dim, people could still recognize her and Lu Yiming.

Gu Huanhuan frowned and her face went blank.
