Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 679: Commence Action, Encirclement, Breakthrough

Southern Philadelphia, a dimly lit area.

Four streets, each located at a considerable distance from each other, surrounded the "Skull Flower" call center in the middle. From an aerial view, the area formed a quadrilateral. Eight unmarked SWAT armored vehicles, parked in pairs along the curb, were hidden in the shadows where the streetlights couldn't reach.

Mona's sudden voice, coming from the communicator, invigorated everyone who had been waiting for a long time. Luo An pressed the communicator and asked with a focused voice:

"Where is the target?"

"Near Highway 332, heading northwest towards that area."

The sound of rapid keyboard typing echoed from the communicator as Mona quickly replied:

"That's close to Winslow!"

Luo An immediately switched channels:

"Winslow, get ready on your end!"

"OK!"

Winslow responded loudly, and Luo An immediately added:

"Everyone else, start moving towards Winslow! Be cautious and careful!"

"Understood!"

At Luo An's command, the armored vehicles where Reesi, Chenier, and Luo An himself were located simultaneously started up and began heading towards Winslow.

The six vehicles had not gone far when Winslow's voice suddenly came through the communicator, sounding urgent:

"Target confirmed, but there are other assassins appearing behind them, and they have opened fire!"

Luo An wasted no time and loudly ordered:

"Immediately set up a perimeter! Prepare for the capture operation!

Reesi, Chenier, speed up to the scene!"

"No problem!"

"Understood!"

Upon receiving the order, Winslow quietly led the SWAT team into action, while Reesi and Chenier also accelerated their approach.

Bang!

Pff—

As Luo An's team got closer to the target area, a few clear but not intense gunshot sounds reached their ears.

The assassins' battle was not as dramatic as gang shootouts; in fact, it was rather subdued. Judging only by the sounds of gunfire, it resembled the violent robberies that happen every night on the streets of Philadelphia.

The two armored vehicles quickly arrived at the scene, and just as Luo An was about to speak, Chenier's voice suddenly burst through the communicator:

"Everyone! There are snipers on the periphery, and observers; we've been spotted!"

The vehicles stopped, and the SWAT team members quickly disembarked, with Luo An following closely behind while pressing the communicator, sternly ordering:

"Immediately commence the capture operation! Arrest the observers and snipers!"

"Understood!"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bang! Bang! Bang!—

As soon as the words were out, intense gunfire suddenly erupted in the distance. The SWAT members didn't have the low-key habits of the assassins; they preferred using direct methods to complete their mission swiftly.

Meanwhile, Luo An's side also began the encirclement, closing in on Winslow's side while the SWAT team members continued to shoot and wound the armed assassins who were attempting to flee or attack.

Bang!

A gunshot rang out, and with his "emotional perception" constantly active in his mind, Luo An accurately shot a female assassin hiding around the corner in the thigh.

Ignoring the woman's expressions of anger and shock, Luo An snatched her pistol and, to the astonishment of his fellow SWAT members, kicked her out cold. Then, bending down, he gestured tactically:

"Continue! Move towards the left!"

"Understood!"

All the SWAT members, suppressing their astonishment, replied in unison. Two of them took the female assassin back to the vehicle, while the rest continued to follow Luo An's rapid advance.

At the same time, inside the encirclement formed by Luo An, in the leftmost building, a white man wearing a bulletproof vest with a buzz cut, around forty years old, and with a pair of azure blue eyes, furrowed his brows and turned back to say:

"We're surrounded."

"No shit, Sherlock. You think I need your blue eyes to see that?"

Behind him, a white woman in her thirties, sporting a ponytail and a spider tattoo on her wrist, spat out some saliva impatiently. She tore her sleeve and tightly wrapped it around a gunshot wound on her left forearm, expressing her impatience:

"That 'Death Call List' bastard was just killed by us, which serves as revenge for 'Undying Kyle' who died in Kansas City.

But 'bastard Bar' and the 'bastard triplets' are on the other side, we're not the ones surrounded."

"I'm not talking about 'King Bar' and his gang being the ones who have us surrounded."

The blue-eyed white man took a deep breath, silently reloaded his handgun with a fresh magazine, and said in a weighty tone:

"Vivian just sent me a message, the Federation Government's people are on the scene, she's trying to escape."

"Heh..."

The corner of the woman's mouth curled into a sneer:

"Still calling her that intimately, true to your name, Blue-eyed Roy, huh?"

Blue-eyed Roy turned his head back, looked at the woman on the ground with a feeling of helplessness, and extended his hand to help her up, saying:

"What I mean is..."

Snap!

"Don't need your help, the spider's legs aren't broken yet."

The woman slapped away Blue-eyed Roy's hand and struggled to stand on her own, then coldly said:

"I can't be bothered with your and that woman's issues right now, what's important is clarifying the situation. The Federation Government's people have us surrounded, what's your next move?"

"We've just obtained what we wanted; there's no need to waste time here with the Federation Government."

Blue-eyed Roy took out two energy bars and handed them to the woman, looking towards the building across the street, and spoke with focus:

"'King Bar,' the triplets, and the assassins behind them must have also received word that the Federation Government has surrounded the area. They must be more anxious than us and will definitely try to break out.

It's time to switch roles. Let these pursuers fight their way out in front, and we, the previously pursued, will follow them and sneak out through the gaps!"

"The plan sounds solid."

The woman casually took the energy bars, tore open the package, and chewed a few bites, then took a bottle of white powder from her lower back, tilted her head back, and poured it into her mouth, swallowing it down with the energy bars.

Witnessing this scene, a hint of distress flashed in Blue-eyed Roy's eyes, but it quickly disappeared. Seeing the woman's complexion turn progressively red, he took a deep breath and began to stealthily make his way to the building diagonally across with her.

Boom—

On the other side, Luo An, leveraging his "emotional perception," pointed out the hiding spot of an assassin, and the two SWAT members behind him immediately threw grenades, causing an explosion that sent the assassin flying out of hiding.

One SWAT member approached cautiously for a careful inspection, then swallowed hard and gestured to the team:

"Target successfully eliminated."

The two SWAT members responsible for the lookout were dumbfounded.

Although the journey from their vehicle here wasn't long, the SWAT team had already killed 6 assassins attempting to hide and escape under Luo An's leadership, with most of the kills being attributed to Luo An's direct actions or his location spotting, followed by their shots.

These SWAT members accepted the explanation that Luo An had a "particularly sensitive nose," but still looked astonished every time they witnessed such a scene, feeling their scalps tingle and their eyes on Luo An filled with shock and admiration.

Choosing to ignore the looks of these SWAT members, Luo An prepared to lead them forward and tighten the cordon.

Just then, Reesi's voice suddenly came through his earpiece:

"Requesting backup! The assassins on our side have regrouped, they're preparing to break out from here!"

"Hold on, we're on our way!"

Luo An immediately ordered Chenier, Winslow, and the SWAT members with him to dispatch a third of their force to support Reesi.

However, Luo An himself did not go, and Mona, monitoring their location, felt puzzled:

"Luo An, you..."

"I suspect this is a feint by the assassins."

Luo An's gaze shifted slightly, and before he could continue speaking, a blinding orange-red light suddenly erupted not far in front of him!

A second after the light illuminated the area, it was followed by a deafening explosion.

Boom—

The massive explosion instantly shattered most of the glass in the building beside Luo An, and the SWAT members instinctively ducked to avoid it.

Meanwhile, Luo An, while dodging the glass shards, pressed his communicator, switched channels, and asked with a focused voice:

"Chenier! How are you holding up over there?"

There was silence in the earpiece, with no response.
