Chapter 632: CIA Agent Identity, New Information
FBI Washington Headquarters, Mr. Clement's office.
"Hello, Group Leader Luo An."
The Caucasian man grinned, revealing a set of bright white teeth, and shook hands with Luo An:
"I've heard the name of Group Leader Luo An for a long time, and today I finally have the chance to meet you."
"Hello."
Luo An smiled, shook hands with Roland, and then asked somewhat puzzledly:
"May I ask the purpose of your visit this time?"
"I've been abroad, dealing with some cases related to underground arms dealers."
Roland explained casually, Mr. Clement waved his hand, and he immediately nodded and left the office.
The office door was closed, Mr. Clement cleared his throat, and said:
"Luo An, regarding this explosion case and the Sarls incident, the Director and I are already aware.
The establishment of a special investigation unit still requires some procedures, but we can start preparing early, and this Roland is a new member who will temporarily join the special investigation unit."
Luo An raised an eyebrow, noticing a word:
"Temporarily?"
Mr. Clement turned his gaze to Vireness, who explained:
"As you know, we are the FBI, and in most cases, the FBI does not operate abroad."
Luo An realized, understanding the implications in Vireness's words.
Everyone knows that outside federal territories is the working scope of the CIA, dealing with criminals, terrorists, coups, assassinations, etc.
Inside federal territories belongs to the FBI, responsible for catching serial killers, interstate criminals, dealing with drug trafficking, etc., without interfering with each other.
Seeing Luo An's realization, a satisfied expression flashed in Vireness's eyes, she continued:
"If the CIA wants to operate inside federal territories, there are only two choices:
Either disguise themselves as another department to conduct operations secretly, and if discovered, they will be punished.
Or they follow the rules, incorporating an in-federal law enforcement personnel in the operation team, to act legally.
For example, temporarily assigning an FBI agent to the investigation team."
After Vireness finished explaining, Luo An smiled and then added a conjecture:
"Correspondingly, following the rules, when we from the FBI go abroad to operate, we also need to add a CIA agent to the team."
"Exactly."
Vireness nodded, Mr. Clement smiled, and said:
"This Agent Roland is a candidate jointly recommended by me and FBI Director Robert."
Regarding the establishment of a new special investigation unit, with Luo An taking the role of the team leader and being responsible for the case involving the National Assembly Chairman, FBI Director Robert had no objections and strongly supported it, sending the documents down immediately.
Mr. Clement continued speaking as he searched Roland's documents on his desk and handed them to Luo An:
"Agent Roland has some understanding of the Sarls situation, you can chat with him.
Once the special investigation unit is officially established, you can start the operation."
"Okay, sir."
Luo An nodded, understanding Mr. Clement's intent that Agent Roland was only temporarily joining Luo An's investigation unit and would leave after handling the Sarls case.
After a brief discussion, Luo An and Vireness left the office together, and in the corridor, Vireness suddenly said in a low voice:
"Luo An, when you leave federal territory to operate, remember to keep a close watch on Agent Roland."
Luo An's expression turned serious, and he asked in a low voice:
"Is there a problem with Agent Roland?"
"No, what I mean is, keep an eye on his... movements."
Vireness shook her head, her face curious, and said in a low voice:
"Agent Roland has one characteristic, he runs fast!
Over these years, he has been involved in many operations hosted by the CIA, aside from those successfully completed, there are quite a few failed ones.
In those failed operations, Roland might get injured, even severely, but he always manages to survive.
Because he always detects danger before others, then quickly flees!"
Upon hearing Vireness's explanation, Luo An's lips twitched, and after a few seconds of silence, he asked:
"Has the CIA never suspected Roland's identity or anything else?"
"Of course they have!"
Vireness shook her head, saying how could the CIA not scrutinize Roland after an operation.
But after multiple checks confirming Roland's identity, experiences, phone records, and tracking before and after operations, the only conclusion the CIA could draw was:
Roland is observant, lucky, and extremely fast on his feet.
"…"
Luo An's face twitched, hearing such a thing for the first time.
Vireness felt somewhat speechless as well, but she still patted Luo An on the shoulder, saying:
"Whether Roland is just lucky or truly observant, you'd do well to keep an eye on his actions.
If something seems off, run with him. There's no shame in that; surviving is what's most important."
Vireness knew Luo An was agile and more capable than many, his mind and intellect were just as strong.
That's exactly why Vireness was more worried about Luo An, very afraid that in a critical moment, his arrogance could lead to injury or even death.
"I understand."
Luo An nodded, he fully grasped the concept of fleeing if he couldn't win, never harboring the delusion of undertaking uncertain actions, for staying alive meant having a future.
"OK."
After a brief conversation, Vireness returned to her office, and Luo An went back to the Number Thirteen Investigation Unit.
"Everyone, let me introduce, this is agent Roland from the CIA."
At the forefront of the Number Thirteen Investigation Unit's office area, Luo An briefly introduced Roland's identity, and after some greetings, Roland took out a folder and said:
"This contains some information about Sarls, shall we look at it and discuss?"
"Of course."
Luo An patted Roland's shoulder, leading the agents into the adjacent conference room.
Around the long conference table, all agents of the Number Thirteen Investigation Unit settled down, Roland getting straight to the point, distributed the information in the folder, and introduced:
"Sarls, the fourth daughter of the arms dealer Hale Rick, 29 years old this year…"
"Sorry, to interrupt."
Upon hearing Roland's introduction, several people in the room were surprised, Reesi glanced at Mona and asked in confusion:
"In the information we found, there's no mention of other children of Hale Rick?"
"This is the information from our CIA database."
Roland smiled and said:
"It's normal for you not to find it while working at the FBI."
"Alright."
Reesi nodded, Mona's expression shifted, showing renewed interest in the CIA's database.
Luo An, meanwhile, noticed another detail and asked:
"If Sarls is Hale Rick's fourth daughter, who are Hale Rick's first three children?"
"Who they are isn't important, because they are already dead."
Roland took out several gruesome photos to show everyone, explaining:
"After Hale Rick was imprisoned, his eldest son, second daughter, and third son all died in explosions shortly after.
These three's children, spouses, and his wife, who is Hale Rick's woman, also died in the explosions, leaving nothing behind."
"…"
Looking at the photos that needed censoring on the table, Winslow, Chenier, Michelle's brows furrowed, Mona and Reesi's expressions turned grim, Luo An asked:
"Was it Sarls who did this?"
"We haven't found out yet."
Roland spread his hands and answered:
"But other than Sarls and her mother still being alive, even Hale Rick's youngest son and the son's mother were killed in a certain villa."
