Legally Brunette (Ace Attorney style GameLit)

The Stardust Diner and the Vengeance of Buffalo Jill

After the casting was chosen for Mina Hawkins, and she had personally chosen a star actress to play herself, Mina spent the rest of the evening winding down with her friends and her partners at the Gollywood Stardust Diner across the street from the studios. It was truly dazzling with hand painted murals of all the stars from ages ago enjoying a bite to eat in a fifties style diner. It almost made one forget the seedy underbelly of Gollywood or the betrayals and crushed dreams that happened every day.

While everyone else enjoyed evening breakfast for dinner with sprinkle covered pancakes and malt milkshakes like the old days, Mina just sat quietly. Her cheeks rested in her hands and even her mocha-choco-latte couldn't perk her up. She had cost an upcoming actress her career just so she could have her favorite actress play herself.

Flan didn't even want to be an understudy. It was all or nothing with this devoted and maybe even a bit obsessed fangirl. But there was nothing she could do. Anne Pathway was now signed on and she'd be drawing crowds to Mina's story with her unbelievable talent as the perfectly perky brunette actress in Legally Brunette.

But even the normally blind, William Justice could see something was wrong. He, after all, had a high tech visor that could sense body heat and pulse rate and even beside him and Ashley, she was unusually cold and lacking energy.

"I'm surprised all this needless sugar isn't peeking you up," he said in his debonair voice. "Are you still down about rejecting that irritating fan girl?"

Mina spoke earnestly and quietly, trying not to rain on everyone's parade. "Willy, would you be upset if you got cast over a famous actor to play your favorite character in a big movie?"

Blind was silent. She realized he was indeed a thespian in school and that might give him some insight she didn't have. Unfortunately, his answer was as blunt and manly as he could be: "Yes," he answered.

Her head hit the table up on hearing that. "I'm a mooooonster!" she walked, getting everyone else including parents and children to stare at her.

"But I'm not finished," Blind said, putting his hand on her shoulder.

She looked up at him, her eyes big and teary.

William Justice continued to speak matter of factly without sugar coating things like often loved with her food and coffee. "But everyone who participates in acting needs to recognize how cut throat the world of movies and stage performances are. Honestly, in college, my old drama teacher warned me that even the football team wasn't as difficult to join as a stage performance of Hamlet In Space!"

Mina bit her lips and nodded in agreement. "My point," Blind said. "Is that even if you made a cruel decision, that girl shouldn't have acted the way she did. I think she had a bit of a parasocial relationship with you, love. Trying to live through you!"

Ashley wrinkled her nose, turned her eyes around in circles and spun her finger around her ear. "If you ask me, undergrad, you're lucky you got out of that alive. That girl was straight up Buffalo Jill and you're lucky your clothes were the only thing she was wearing!"

Mina took a deep breath. Being a diehard fan was a whole other can of wiggly worms. She certainly had to have every piece of Ninja Kitty paraphernalia there was. But the only difference was, he was a kawaii japanese anime anthropomorphic feline designed to sell fashion items. She was a real person wasn't she?

"Oh well!" she said with a relaxed smile. "At least the massive anxiety is over and I can just relax and watch Legally Brunette get made into a motion picture now!

Unfortunately, and quite ironically, the Ninja Kitty chip tune blared from her E-Phone. Her eyes scanned the caller ID. It was Artie Decor. The director had stayed behind for 'behind the scenes showbiz stuff' but now he was calling her.

What could this be about? she thought to herself.

"Yellow?" she asked innocently and sweetly.

"Mina, baby!" the director gasped, breathing hard. "Thank the heavens you picked up!"

"Artie?" Mina asked. "Why do you sound like you ran a marathon!"

"Because, I did, baby! It was fabulous! Actually it wasn't fabulous! There's someone in the studio, dressed like you, trying to kill me…WITH A KNIFE!"

"Oh my lawd!" Mina gasped. "Hang on, I'll call the police! Please just hang in there, Artie!"

There was a loud gasp followed by a scream and the phone went dead.
