Legacy of the Lines

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: The Awakening of the Lines

Elias felt his breath hitch as he stumbled backward, his wide eyes locked on the figure advancing slowly from the shadows.

It was a vampire.

Humanoid in appearance, it radiated an oppressive presence, suffocating in its intensity. White hair framed a face with piercing crimson eyes that seemed to glow in the dim light, its movements fluid yet unnervingly predatory. Each step it took seemed to send ripples of dread through the air.

"What… what is that thing?!" Elias's voice trembled.

Camille, the woman accompanying him, drew her curved blade slowly. She didn't answer right away, stepping between him and the creature with calm precision.

"It's a vampire," she said finally, her tone cold and sharp enough to cut through the tension. "And a word of advice: if you want to live, stay behind me and don't do anything stupid."

Elias swallowed hard.

"Can I just run?" he suggested weakly, half-serious.

Camille turned her head toward him, her violet eyes glowing with a dangerous intensity.

"If you want to end up as its dinner, be my guest."

Elias froze in place, his body refusing to obey him as the creature let out a guttural growl, revealing razor-sharp fangs.

The Fight

The tension snapped as the vampire lunged forward, its speed so blinding it defied the human eye. Camille reacted instantly, her blade cutting a gleaming arc through the air. The clash of steel against claws reverberated like thunder, sending sparks flying in all directions.

"Don't move!" she yelled, throwing a quick glance back at Elias, who flinched at the sheer force of the impact.

The creature recoiled momentarily before launching another attack, its claws slashing through the air mere inches from Camille's face. She dodged with practiced ease, countering with a strike that bit into the vampire's shoulder, releasing a burst of blue light.

Elias remained rooted to the spot, his legs refusing to cooperate. His mind struggled to process the chaos unfolding before him.

This isn't real… It can't be real… he thought, cold sweat dripping down his neck.

But the vampire wasn't letting up. Despite its injuries, it seemed to grow more ferocious, its attacks becoming faster, more relentless.

Camille gritted her teeth, her movements precise but increasingly strained.

"This is getting... complicated," she muttered under her breath.

Suddenly, the medallion in Elias's hand began to vibrate.

An Unexpected Power

"What the…" Elias looked down at the object, now glowing with an intense golden light. A strange warmth surged through his arm, flooding his entire body.

The vampire seemed to sense the shift. Ignoring Camille, it turned sharply and charged at Elias with terrifying speed.

"NO!" Camille shouted, attempting to intercept it, but she was too late.

The creature was already upon him.

Time slowed to a crawl as the vampire's claws descended toward him. Then, the medallion exploded with light.

Golden lines burst into the air around Elias, weaving into a complex, luminous web. A shockwave followed, blasting the vampire backward with immense force.

Elias collapsed to his knees, the glowing Lines swirling around him like a protective aura.

Camille stopped in her tracks, her expression stunned.

"The Lines… You activated the Lines," she murmured, as if she couldn't believe her own words.

The vampire, however, wasn't finished. It rose slowly, its crimson eyes now burning with pure hatred.

Camille moved to shield Elias, her blade poised.

"Step back!" she barked.

But before she could act, Elias raised his hand instinctively. Another surge of golden light erupted from the medallion, striking the vampire with unerring precision.

The creature let out an inhuman scream as its body disintegrated into a cloud of black dust.

Silence fell, heavy and oppressive.

Elias remained frozen, his gaze fixed on his trembling hands.

"What… was that?" he whispered hoarsely.

Camille sheathed her sword slowly, her eyes still locked on him.

"The Lines protected you," she said gravely. "But… how were you able to activate them? You shouldn't even be able to see them."

First Revelations

Elias lifted his head, his brow furrowed.

"Are you going to explain what's going on, or do I have to keep playing guessing games? Because I'm completely lost here!"

Camille sighed, crossing her arms.

"The Lines… they're a force that connects everything. This world, other worlds, living beings, the elements—everything. Very few people can interact with them. Even fewer can manipulate them without losing their minds."

She stared at him intently.

"And you… you just proved that you're one of those rare few."

Elias blinked, struggling to comprehend.

"Great. So not only am I stuck in a world where monsters want to eat me, but I also have some dangerous power I don't understand. Anything else I should know?"

Camille smirked faintly.

"Yeah. Buckle up, because this is just the beginning."

A New Path

As they resumed their journey, Elias posed one final question.

"And now what?"

Camille glanced back at him, her expression serious.

"Now, we're heading to a place where you can learn what you've become. But be ready—it won't be easy."

Elias looked up at the crimson sky, letting out a weary sigh.

"I'm going to regret this, aren't I?"

"Without a doubt."

And with that, they disappeared into the horizon, heading toward an unknown destination.
