35: Date Spot Scouting
After spending some more time sipping tea and chatting about idle topics with Sylvia, Valencia scheduled a time for Sylvia to come over and meet Astrid before beginning her journey back towards Marcen’s Cliffs. Blasting her way through the sky, Valencia came to a slow stop as the outskirts of the city approached.
Taking in the view, Valencia spent a couple moments floating in the air before accelerating once more. With a bit of time on her hands before she promised Astrid she’d be home, Valencia, once again, decided to violate all the airspace boundaries before making her way towards the tallest skyscrapers.
Sure, the tallest skyscrapers were owned by the Federation, but... who cares? Not Valencia. It wasn’t as if the Federation could stop her from taking a little relaxation break at the top of their skyscraper.
Soaring through the sky, Valencia ignored the small spikes of divine energy and began her descent. Taking a quiet seat on the edge of the building, Valencia hung her legs off the side of the building before pulling out her phone.
Snapping a couple pictures on her phone to show Astrid later, Valencia couldn’t help but tap her chin as she put her phone away.
“I wonder... I wonder if I could bring Astrid here on a date.”
Murmuring to herself while leaning back to just... take in the view, Valencia sighed as a wave of tranquility washed over her. Feeling her shoulders relax, face loosen, and hair wave as the wind blew through it, Valencia smiled and enjoyed a couple moments of peace.
Her relaxation was cut short however as a gargantuan spike of divine energy shot up from below her. With a figure bolting up the side of the building, beelining towards her location, Valencia sighed.
Did Casimir really have nothing better to do?
Yawning, Valencia waited a couple seconds before the gaunt man in his ever-perfect suit shot up in front of her. “What’s up Casimir, how are you doing?”
“That’s what I would like to ask you.” Casimir shot back with a curt tone, crossing his arms as other deities began moving about below. “You trespassed our territory earlier, but we didn’t investigate it further since you left moments later. But now what are you doing? Do you have no respect for the boundaries outlined in the city?”
“... uh... yeah, pretty much.” Valencia shrugged, pulling out her phone to straighten her hair after Casimir had messed it up with his wind-generating entrance. “Anyway, I just wanted to ask if it would be possible for you to set up a table up here? Maybe a couch? It’d be pretty cool to bring Astrid up here for a date.”
Clenching his fist and almost popping a vein at Valencia’s nonchalant reaction, Casimir couldn’t help but raise his voice. “This is not the time to bring up such things! You can’t just invade our territory, Valencia. No matter how much confidence you have there has to be a limit! Use your brain, can you stand up to the full might of the federation?”
“... uh... yeah, pretty sure I could.” Valencia shrugged again, this time checking her nails over. “Also, dude, chill, I’m not here to fight, I’m just admiring the view and relaxing a bit, so you can let your goonies go relax, okay?”
Snickering on the inside as Casimir was at a loss for words, Valencia got into a more comfortable position as Casimir sighed and pulled out his phone to give his underlings a call.
Checking over her nails once more as Casimir got onto the phone, Valencia nodded. Astrid sure had done a good job painting her nails last time. What an artist! Stellar to say the least!
“You done with your call?” Valencia asked as Casimir put his phone away. “Give me a sec to set a reminder on my phone.”
“What for?” Casimir asked with a dry tone. “Another trespassing?”
“You know, now that you mention it, sure. I was just setting a reminder to let Astrid paint my nails again though.” Valencia explained before holding up two fingers. “Since I’m doing one extra alert now, I’ll need two seconds instead before we can finish talking.”
Two very long, and very awkward seconds later, Valencia looked up.
Sitting back upright, Valencia brought the topic back to her curiosity. “So do you Feds have like... catering or whatever I could order? Or maybe I should just call it takeout since it’ll be only for two people. I’m wondering if I could do a date up here.”
“... No, the Federation of Obsidian does not do catering. Also, please do not call us ‘the Feds’ because that links us with online slang that we don’t want to be associated with.” Casimir articulated slowly and carefully.
“Who cares~,” Valencia sang, waving off Casimir’s worries, “Loosen up a bit, my man. I don’t have much time left though because I promised Astrid I’d be back in five minutes, but it was nice talking.”
Using her hands to push herself off the building and leaping into the air before Casimir could reply, Valencia just gave a fake salute. “Anyway, looks like you got a little stronger recently, we should schedule a fight sometime. Or maybe I’ll just come looking for one. Take care~”
Doing a fake bow in the air, Valencia did a lackadaisical flip before making eye contact with Casimir. “And make sure you don’t lose too fast this time, mkay? It was a real... disappointment last time.”
With Valencia’s pressure crashing down on Casimir like a tsunami, Casimir barely processed that Valencia smirked and winked before she disappeared from his field of view.
Beginning a slow descent to the ground floor where his subordinates were waiting, Casimir sighed. “I... I should get back to the training room.”
“Casimir! Is everything alright?!” Cyril came running up with the rest of the important Federation deities in tow. Miming a couple of punches, Cyril grinned, “Did you scare off Valencia? Pow pow, throw a couple punches and show her who’s boss?”
“Use your brain, Cyril,” Casimir grumbled as he walked past the deities and into the building. “She wasn’t looking for a fight. She came just to take in the view. Then she asked me if we could set up a date spot for her and her girlfriend at the top of the skyscraper, right on top of our meeting room.”
“Well, she doesn’t know the top floor conference room is our meeting room, yeah?” Tessa murmured, following Casimir back into the building. “But that is a bold request. Should we?”
“Obviously not!” Casimir lamented with a self-deprecating laugh. “Although we would love to get Astrid into our organization, it’s clear that while she is dating Valencia, it’s not going to happen. Thus, we don’t need to be so subservient towards them.”
“It’s not going to stop them though is it?” Cyril laughed, cheery as could be from the back of the pack. “I bet we’ll find them one day sitting on top of the building with a picnic blanket.”
“Well, I’m sure we’ll find out beforehand,” Casimir reassured as he massaged the bridge of his nose, “Valencia won’t want us ruining her date.”
With the elevator just in front of him, Casimir came to a stop. Turning to face his subordinates, he spread his arms. “Well, on that note, I’m heading off to the training room. Yes, for the first time in a couple years, but Valencia mentioned that she wants another duel with me soon. Any of you are free to join by the way.”
Following his declaration, Casimir made his way into the elevator... only to have every deity scurry in behind him to get some training in.
If Valencia was coming for a duel they’d probably have to fight too, and training like mad was the only way they were going to avoid an extended visit to a hospital...
