Chapter 35: The Effects of Consuming Dragon's Blood
Daeranyx POV
After hearing that I could forge Valyrian steel, they all fell silent, taking in the information I had shared with them that evening. Honestly, creating Valyrian steel isn't that difficult for me since I possess my own magic and don't need to sacrifice humans to embed the magical spells that ensure the rune arrays continue functioning. Indeed, Valyrian steel isn't overly complex; it involves harnessing the magic and properties of dragon fire, integrating them into the steel, drawing runic arrays to imbue the desired qualities in the steel, and casting Valyrian spells to bind all these elements together. Because holding the magic is harder in this world than in HP world.
You might wonder why I haven't created a vast amount of it by now. Firstly, I have too many things on my plate to simply sit back and produce Valyrian steel, which I already possess in my inventory. Moreover, I'm attempting to enhance Valyrian steel by adding more than the usual three benefits: invulnerability, sharpness beyond normal steel, and lightness. The ancient Valyrian sorcerers from the Five Families have repeatedly tried to infuse additional properties into Valyrian steel. However, despite their numerous attempts and even sacrifices, success has eluded them. Normal steel cannot contain such immense power, even when tempered with dragon fire and endowed with greater magical properties than before.
The solution may seem straightforward: choose stronger steel to forge Valyrian steel. However, if it were that simple, I would have accomplished it by now. My initial thought was to use Valyrian steel in the process to create a metal with even greater properties. Yet, the runic arrays inscribed on the Valyrian steel, which bestow its unique properties, vanish when exposed to dragon fire. This experiment led me to conclude that dragon fire possesses a sort of cleansing effect. It seems to break any magic upon which it is unleashed, functioning like a form of anti-magic, though on a much smaller scale. It doesn't negate magic but allows it to dissipate from the object and disperse back into the world.
The results were quite astonishing to me. Why, you may ask? Initially, dragon fire is utilized to transform ordinary steel into a lesser form of magical steel. Subsequently, I discovered it also has a purifying effect. These two effects are diametrically opposed; in one instance, they imbue the object with magical properties, and in the other, they remove them. This contradiction led me to delay the project aimed at creating steel that is more magical and powerful than Valyrian steel. It was also a factor in deciding to enhance my dragon, Anarion, as the dragons of this world remain a mystery to me. They are more powerful than their counterparts in the HP world, according to the memories of two wizards that I hold. However, it's not just the dragons; the ingredients that you could take from Dragon like their blood and scales available for various purposes are also more potent than those I recall from Dumbledore's memories.
I was discovering the uses of Dragon blood I had obtained from the corpse of Sheep stealer. I wanted to determine if the Dragon blood in this world possessed the same powers and properties as the Dragon blood from the Harry Potter world, which I knew from Dumbledore's memories. It turned out to have much more potent effects than those from the two wizards' home world. After my experiments, while examining the Dragon blood, I felt an overwhelming urge to taste it. Without fully realizing what I was doing, I drank it. The sensation that washed over me was more addictive than the darkest magic from the Harry Potter world gave me after I had used it during my stay at Skagos. It was so compelling that I had to leave the room and meet with Anarion to remind myself of what I was consuming.
I am certain from Dumbledore's memories that dragon blood does not cause addiction. Nor does it enhance physical strength or induce mental aggression. Indeed, the only benefit I derived from consuming the blood of Sheep stealer was a slight, barely noticeable increase in physical prowess, which was permanent. Initially, I mistook this for strength, but after conducting several tests, I discovered it was actually longevity that had increased, with the enhanced strength being merely a side effect.
The increased longevity and aggressiveness may just be coincidental, but my family was notably characterized by these traits. The intense craving to consume blood points in a direction I'd rather not contemplate. Despite the potential advantages it offers, I refuse to partake again. All Dragonlords, myself included, carry a measure of dragon blood in our veins. To consume the blood of a creature that shares this connection would be akin to cannibalism, a line I am not willing to cross. Moreover, the resulting aggressiveness could have enduring effects on my psyche, beyond remedy, so I must decline the consumption of dragon blood.
Additionally, I discovered another aspect through this process. Consuming dragon blood seems to increase vitality and aggressiveness in me. Similarly, when a dragon consumes another dragon or their rider, they gain increased vitality, cunningness, and a higher intellect—traits that we humans possess more than any other creature in both this world and my former one. Moreover, they develop an addiction, as cannibalistic dragons show a preference for their own kind's flesh over any other meat. Humans gain the aggressiveness for which dragons are notorious, while dragons acquire the cunningness for which we are renowned. Is this merely coincidental, or is it my first step towards understanding how ancient Valyrian sorcerers bound such a formidable magical predator to their will? I am documenting all this for my future descendants or anyone who wishes to continue this research should I be unable to complete it.
"Were there only two families that knew how to forge Valyrian steel back in Old Valyria?" Viserys asked with fascination and curiosity. I shook my head in response to his question, as the knowledge was possessed by all five houses.
"No, all five major houses knew how to forge Valyrian steel," I replied to Viserys.
"Considering everything I've learned about our motherland from you, Lord Drakonar, it seems that the five major houses were the rulers of Old Valyria in all but name," Viserys remarked, having heard my answer. My response was nothing but laughter at his statement.
"You're not the first to think that, King Viserys. But Old Valyria was never just land for the five major houses. I vividly recall my father taking me on his dragon for the first time. Standing atop a volcanic mountain, he said, 'Son, you may not grasp all of what I'm about to tell you. But remember, the land below is not merely where we live and reign. This land is our mother, deserving of even greater respect and love than your birth mother. Valyria, our mother, has only ever given to us, providing what we needed and more for over five thousand years. So, treat her with the same respect, love, and care as you would your own mother. If necessary, do not hesitate to give your life if it means aiding Mother Valyria in any way or form.' As I grew older, he explained that this was a tradition passed down in our family, told to every member to understand the significance of Mother Valyria to us. Thus, I believe the five families fought among themselves to assert their dominance over the others, not to rule Mother Valyria." After I spoke, a look of respect washed over Viserys's face, mirrored in the eyes of others in the room.
Some servants approached Viserys to inform him that supper was prepared and Aemma, along with Rhaenyra, awaited their presence. "We are honored to receive the insights of House Drakonar regarding Mother Valyria. We thank you, Lord Drakonar, for considering us worthy to learn of the traditions preserved within your house." I simply nodded at him. It's all in the past now; our Mother Valyria is gone, and her children were the ones responsible for it. "Let's proceed to the dining chambers, Lord Drakonar. It's time for supper, and Aemma awaits us there. We should also inform her about the alliance between your house and House Velaryon. I believe she will be pleased to hear it." With that, we all stood up and made our way to the dining chambers of the Red Keep.
