Chapter 257: End of the world!
BOOM!
Thud!
BOOM!
Thud!
BOOM!
Thud!
...
....
Aria and Aether's synchronized attack was relentless.
Aria's arrows flew with deadly precision, slicing through the air with a sharp hiss. Each arrow was imbued with a strange, pulsating black energy that made them glow eerily. Aether, on the other hand, closed in on the hooded figure with fierce determination, his fists and blasts striking with the force of a hurricane.
The hooded figure staggered back, its cloak billowing as it struggled to maintain its balance. Aria and Aether exchanged a quick, hopeful glance.
Their telepathic link made coordination seamless. Aether's thoughts echoed in Aria's mind, /Now, aim for its legs!/
Aria nodded slightly, her fingers tightening around her bowstring. She aimed lower and released another arrow.
'What the hell is wrong with these arrows?' the hooded figure thought, its mind racing. Aria's arrows, infused with a strange energy, pierced its body, which was supposed to be invulnerable.
Every hit sent a shockwave of pain through it.
And even more,
'This guy....' the figure's eyes narrowed as it looked at Aether, whose power surged with unnatural intensity, causing the figure to frown deeply.
Suddenly, Aria pointed towards the sky, her bowstring taut. Blood dripped from her lips staining her sliver thread, and also staining her pale skin and the front of her dress.
The figure's frown deepened. Aether quickly stepped back, raising his hand as blue scorching flames burst forth, hurtling towards the figure. The flames roared like a wild beast, consuming everything in their path.
Sssshh
Sssshh
Sssshhhh
Aria's single arrow multiplied into dozens, all aimed at the hooded figure. At the same time, Aether's fireball blazed towards it with frightening speed.
"A-Aria, let's run," Aether shouted, his voice filled with urgency and a hint of worry. He knew the figure was too powerful for them, and their attack was only a diversion.
Aria nodded, and they sprinted away. Aether bit his lip, feeling a pang of guilt and frustration. Running felt cowardly, but he knew their survival mattered more. They couldn't match the figure's strength head-on and even more, Aria was currently wounded a lot... so, No-No!
BBBOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM!!
A massive shockwave erupted, shaking the ground violently. Rocks were sent flying. But Aria and Aether didn't look back.
They were focused solely on escaping. Yet,
"Looks like you had your fun," the hooded figure's voice echoed, chilling them to the bone. It appeared before them, unscathed and unruffled. With a snap of its fingers, Aether was flung backwards, crashing into the ground with a sickening thud.
The hooded figure turned to Aria, a cruel smile playing on its lips. "You can't escape," it sneered, throwing a punch at her mouth.
Bufff!
Aria's mouth, already wounded, bled profusely. She staggered, pain searing through her body like molten lava. Her vision blurred, but she refused to fall.
"Hehe... Look at you, the once queen now reduced to a mere plaything," the figure mocked, venom dripping from its words. It reached out to grab her hair, but suddenly, five pieces of compressed air with static electricity swirled around it and exploded.
BOOM!
BOOM!
.....
...
The figure was momentarily taken aback, giving Aether the opening he needed. He leapt at the figure, his eyes blazing with anger and killing intent..... His fists were covered in a blue flame, each strike aimed to kill.
But,
"Caught you~" The hooded figure's hand shot out, gripping Aether's neck. Its grip tightened, and veins bulged on Aether's neck as he struggled to breathe. His eyes bulged, and his hands clawed at the figure's arm.
"Can't you just die already!" the figure growled, annoyance flashing across its face, "The first punch should have killed you!"
When it first punched Aether... it was packed enough to Kill a servant like him and yet...
/A-Aria/ Aether's voice echoed in Aria's mind, urging her to flee, /Run and survive/ his thoughts pleaded.
If he was alone he could do something about the situation!
But Aria shook her head, tears mingling with the blood on her face. She pulled the bowstring again, despite the pain in her broken mouth and lips. The agony was unbearable, but she couldn't abandon Aether.... Not now.... Not ever.
Ssssshhh
She fired another arrow, but this time, the figure didn't dodge. Instead, it used Aether as a shield.
"N-NO!! Cough, cough," Aria choked on her own blood as she saw her arrows piercing Aether's back, "P-Please stop this!! Let him go!!" she cried out, her voice breaking with desperation. Her heart felt like it was being ripped apart.
"Your pleas are useless," the hooded figure sneered, tightening its grip on Aether's neck. "He's already dead."
Hearing her desperate plea, Aether's face turned ashen.
The disbelief washed over him as he saw his beloved Aria, her words broken and bloodied, begging for his life. Her mouth, twisted in pain and desperation, could barely form the words. Gritting his teeth, Aether summoned every ounce of his strength, pushing his power to new!
[You have Levelled up!!]
However, it still wasn't enough.
Seeing Aether and Aria fighting for each other, the shadowy figure's fury boiled over. His grip tightened around Aether's neck, threatening to snap it like a twig.
His voice, a low growl, dripped with venom and malice...
"You have some nerve to seduce my wife, don't you?"
Aether's eyes widened in realization, 'Alaric?' he thought. 'This fucker!! He's a fucking Arcane King!' He screamed inwardly, the memories of his master's warnings flashing before his eyes. She had told him about the previously chosen ones, how they were far stronger than they appeared.
She had specifically warned him about Alaric since Aether always piss him off, but he had always dismissed the danger.
'Increase,' he commanded himself, his anger fueling his determination he didn't care whatever happened to his body, he clearly knew this bastard was after Aria so there was no way he would allow this,
However,
!~Ding~!
[Arcane refused the 'Log' to increase the Aether's level.]
'YOU BITCH!!' Aether raged silently, furious at the interference, 'This is not the time to play around!! Give it to me!!' he shouted in desperation.
Even though he knew his body was already broken but knowing Alaric he wouldn't care about the consequences.
Yet there was no response, 'Fuck!' he screamed.
With a sudden burst of energy (Will), he caught Alaric's hand, gripping it tightly. The sheer force of his will kept him conscious, kept him fighting.
"Oh? Got angry? But what else can you do now?" Alaric taunted, his voice dripping with sarcasm and annoyance. He leaned closer, his eyes glinting with sadistic pleasure. "You have been giving me quite a lot of trouble. I never in my life--" Before he could finish, Aether interrupted with a chilling laugh that echoed through the battlefield.
"Heh...."
"Huh?"
"Hehe...."
"Have you gone mad?"
"HEHEHEHEHEHEHE...." Aether, with his remaining strength, his consciousness fading, and his lungs burning for air, laughed maniacally. His blue eyes shimmered with an icy determination..... There was no fear in his expression, only amusement and defiance.
"T-To think, 'cough' a cuckold emperor scared of a servant.... Haha.. haha... What an amusing cuckold emperor you are."
BOOOMM!
The ground around Alaric shattered, cracks spidering outwards from his feet. Though Aether couldn't see his face, he knew Alaric was furious. His rage might cost Aether his life, and yet....
"Cuckold Emperor!"
"BASTARD!!!!" Alaric roared and snapped his neck.
... More like attempting to snap Aether's neck. But before he could, Aria's arrow struck his wrist, forcing him to loosen his grip. Alaric glared at Aria, his eyes burning with rage. "You want to save him, right?" he sneered. "Go and save him!" With a powerful throw, he hurled Aether off the edge of the world.
"A-AETHER!!!" Aria screamed, her voice filled with agony, as she ran towards the cliff.
"Hehehe...." Even in his last moments, Aether's gaze remained fixed on Alaric, his face twisted in a haughty smile that sent shivers down Alaric's spine.
Alaric shook off his thoughts and prepared to deal with Aria. But before he could, she.... jumped off the cliff after Aether!
Alaric blinked in disbelief. "Did she really?" He was stunned.
Was she really willing to give her life for a useless, worthless servant?
His rage intensified, becoming a tempest that roared in his chest.
"YOU BITCH!! DIE WITH THAT BASTARD!!" He shouted, his voice echoing like a thunderclap. Stomping the ground in anger, he tried to cool his head. "Well, whatever. Since she's gone, I will pursue my dream," he thought, remembering his ultimate goal..... But another annoying white haired character came to mind, distracting him from his victory.
"I will soon deal with him," he mumbled, noticing the dead coachman by the carriage.
According to his plan, the coachman was supposed to bring them to the teleportation site where he had placed a Spell Scroll. After teleporting them there, he intended to finish off the filthy servant, take the woman as his slave, and of course.... finally kill the coachman... No witness, right?
But.... Coachman was already dead!
"Whatever," he shrugged, about to snap his fingers when,
Drip, Drip
Alaric's eyes widened. His forearm... was missing!
"When...?" He frowned in shock. Even now, he couldn't feel the pain. He tried to recall when it happened, but he knew he had used that hand to throw Aether. There was nothing Aether had done to him... or was there?
Gritting his teeth in regret, Alaric realized he had underestimated that filthy servant again!!
"Tsk, it must be a fluke," he thought as he believed it was because he was careless about nothing.... then setting fire to the carriage. He disappeared, but not before looking at the edge one last time. He felt a twinge of loss that his plaything had chosen a servant over an emperor.
Truly pitiful!

He glanced at his missing forearm. "I should have killed that bastard!" With deep regret, he vanished.
...
The flames burned in the lonely plain, there was nothing but the beautiful sky and scorching fire....but then,
Ssssssshhhhhhh
A large figure, faster than the eye could see, leapt over the edge of the world.
