Kuroko no Basket: The Supreme Genius of The Court

Chapter 22: Red Team vs Blue Team - Can Akira be Guarded? - Part2(final)

Hiroshi, sensing the momentum shift, decided to take matters into his own hands. He called for a one-on-one against Akira, dribbling with confidence as he moved the ball from hand to hand. He made small, explosive sprints, trying to shake Akira off, but Akira's defense was airtight.

Finally, Hiroshi advanced, stomping his foot on the ground and jumping back to create space.

"Now I've got you!" Hiroshi thought, launching a jump shot.

Akira's reflexes kicked in. With a near-superhuman leap, he stretched his arm just enough to get a fingertip on the ball, altering its trajectory. The ball hit the rim and bounced back into play.

"Damn it!" Hiroshi clenched his fists as the ball nearly went in.

Mitobe reassured him, patting his shoulder and giving him a thumbs up as they jogged back on defense.

The ball ended up in Renji's hands, and Akira couldn't help but be impressed by his teammate's fluid movements. Renji dribbled effortlessly, his eyes focused on his opponent rather than the ball.

The duel between Renji and Takeo was intense, with Renji constantly creating openings in the defense with his slick dribbling. But despite the opportunities, Renji didn't pass the ball, instead opting to take the shot himself.

It's impossible that he doesn't see the passing lanes he's missing…

Akira noticed an opening and made a sharp cut, freeing himself inside the paint. He locked eyes with Renji, signaling for the pass.

This is it… pass it!

But the pass never came. Instead, Renji made another dribble and then attempted a fadeaway jumper. Takeo couldn't block it, but the shot clanked off the rim.

"That's a serious problem… he's a ball hog," Akira muttered under his breath.

Mitobe turned to Akira, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh! Sorry! I was just thinking out loud, sorry about that."

With Akira scoring on every possession, the red team changed its strategy, double marking him, this made it easier for Jinichi to find more spaces on the court.

Now it's more like a real match, but unfortunately for them, I'm used to double marking.

"Akira!" Jinichi passes it to him.

"Mitobe and Kaigo? That means my center is free in the tank."

Without looking, and without even holding the ball, Akira redirects the pass, which goes under Kaigo's legs, and falls into Noriaki's hands, free to score. 42-37 Blue Team.

As the game progressed, it was clear that Akira was playing on a different level. But instead of going all out and dominating, he was carefully guiding his teammates, both on his team and the opposing team. Every move he made was calculated to push them beyond their limits.

Akira dribbled up the court, noticing that Hiroshi was giving him some space. Instead of driving in for an easy score, he signaled to Kenta, who quickly moved into position. Akira passed the ball to him, letting Kenta take the shot. Kenta's form was solid, and the ball sailed through the hoop. The blue team was up, 44-37.

Everyone was exhausted except Akira and Renji, Hiroshi's serene face was panting, but he was thirsty to score a point over Akira.

I think he dedicated himself enough, I'll give him a chance, I'll let him shoot, but only if it's three points.

Hiroshi tries to infiltrate, but is blocked by Akira, with the possession time running out, he risks the 3 points. The ball hits the rim, goes up, and falls softly into the net.

His eyes fill with joy and a flame of determination, accompanied by a victorious pose.

"Finally!" He screamed.

If I only won, it would be the same thing as me destroying this match. I need to save my performance for the championship.

The match is coming to an end, in the last possession, the ball was with Akira, with just over six seconds left to finish.

I think I'll actually play for at least one play.

Akira takes a deep breath, he faces Kaigo, makes a false pass to the left, and takes off with full speed to the right, Hiroshi appears to block him, but with a quick movement, he passes the ball behind his back, and receives it with the left hand.

"Dammit!"

He was face to face with Mitobe, the last defender, Akira pretends to pass to Renji, who destabilizes Mitobe, but goes for a layup.

Mitobe manages to compose himself to block.

But Akira, with an acrobatic movement in mid-air, makes a reverse layup, passing his hand under Mitobe's arm, the ball hits the backboard, and goes in.

The whistle blows for the last time in the match.

Everyone from the red and blue team looked at Akira, a single thought dominated their heads.

"Is it possible to guard this guy?"
