Episode LVI: Felix’s Rematch

Felix awoke with a jolt, relieved to find himself in an actual bed. As he rubbed the sleep from his eyes, he looked around and took in his surroundings. The room was warm and cozy, with soft curtains billowing gently in the breeze from an open window. "Felix, breakfast," called his mother from the kitchen. Felix's stomach growled in response; he had missed his mother's cooking while he was away. As she placed a steaming plate of food in front of him, Felix couldn't help but smile at the familiar tastes and scents that brought back memories of home. "I'm so glad you're back," his mother said, her smile filled with love and relief. "So, what did you do while I was gone?" Felix asked between bites. "Just some girl's things," his mother replied with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. Felix chuckled and shook his head; he knew better than to ask for more details. His mother excused herself to check the mail outside, leaving Felix alone at the table with his thoughts. A few minutes later, she returned with an unusual look on her face as she handed Felix a letter. "You don't normally get mail," she commented, raising an eyebrow. Felix blushed slightly; he knew exactly who it was from. "She always sends it too early," Felix mumbled to Mudar, their family friend who had been sitting quietly at the table. "Well, she loves you and wants to know what you're up to," Mudar remarked with a knowing smile. After finishing his breakfast, Felix retreated to his room where he eagerly opened the letter from Scarlet, his girlfriend. A smile spread across his face as he read about how much she missed him and their time together on the island they had recently visited. He also read about her dangerous adventures trying to stop her ex-boyfriend Igor and her plans to visit him and meet his mother. Excited by Scarlet's words, Felix sat down at his desk and began crafting a response. Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice calling out to him from outside his window. Without hesitation, Felix leaped up, executed a perfect backflip, and landed on the mailbox in front of his house. He raised the flag and turned to see an old friend standing there. "Reggie! Is that you?" exclaimed Felix with a big grin. "Yeah man, how are you doing?" replied Reggie with a warm hug. As they caught up, Felix learned that Reggie was doing well in college with almost a 3.8 GPA. "That's impressive," said Felix with admiration. "So how's that Kung-Fu school you're going to?" asked Reggie with curiosity. "It's amazing; I wish you could come with me and meet my new friends," replied Felix enthusiastically. "Maybe one day after college," Reggie lied as he nervously rubbed the back of his head. Just as they were about to spar like old times, a fancy limo appeared out of nowhere and pulled up in front of them. The window rolled down, revealing Jared's face. "You two, get in," he commanded with a mischievous glint in his eye. With a mixture of excitement and confusion, Felix and Reggie climbed into the limo obediently. "Hello boys," greeted Jared as they settled into their seats. "What's all this about?" asked Felix curiously. "I just feel like taking a trip down memory lane to our old dojo where we used to train together," replied Jared with a sly smile. "Funny enough, I was just about to spar with Reggie here," chimed in Felix. "Well then, let's make it a triple-threat match," suggested Jared with a wicked grin. Upon reaching the dojo, Felix was struck by its transformation. The once austere and traditional structure now boasted a contemporary flair with fresh mats and seating areas dispersed throughout. Trophies won by Jared and his grandfather over the years adorned the walls. As they stepped inside, Felix's anticipation surged, wondering what their impromptu training session would entail. "Check this out," Jared announced, flicking a switch before cutting a hole in the wall. As it slid back, sunlight poured into the dojo. "This is incredible! I can't believe you guys renovated this place," Reggie exclaimed. "Well, this was a gift for my grandfather; I wanted him to have a top-tier dojo," Jared responded nonchalantly while inspecting his fingernails. "Now, are we ready to spar and kick things off?" "Absolutely," Felix replied eagerly, clenching his fists together in anticipation. "I'm ready to prove that I can beat both of you." Jared swiftly shed his outer clothing revealing a yellow gi underneath adorned with a purple wyvern tail belt. "You got a new belt?" Felix gasped in surprise. "Yes, do you like it? This is what dedication yields," Jared remarked smugly. Felix clenched his fist before removing his clothes to reveal a moon-blue gi with a white belt underneath. "I suppose I should change too," Reggie interjected before returning clad in an unadorned white gi. "Remember, I won't be going easy on either of you," Jared warned as he raised his fist. Understanding the challenge posed by Jared's words, Felix and Reggie nodded in agreement just as they adopted their fighting stances. As soon as Felix looked up again, he saw both Jared and Reggie rushing towards him from opposite directions. He leaped up just as they launched their attacks at each other instead of him: punches flew and kicks were thrown but it was Reggie who fell back first. Jared followed up with a swift kick to Reggie's stomach and an electrifying uppercut, knocking him out instantly. Felix watched the entire spectacle wide-eyed. "I knew he was out of practice," Jared commented casually, "Now, it's just you and me." With a smirk on his face, Jared circled Felix, each waiting for the other to make the first move. The stalemate broke when Felix threw a punch that Jared countered effortlessly before landing a kick onto Felix's stomach. However, Felix retaliated by smashing his elbow onto Jared’s leg which prompted Jared to attempt kicking Felix’s head. Agilely performing a cartwheel, Felix managed to dodge and they both hit the floor with Felix recovering faster than Jared. "You've improved since our last fight...," began Jared but was interrupted as Felix landed a punch square on his face followed by a slanted kick and then launched a weak moon blast in Jared's direction. But just in time, Jared countered with a kick sending it back towards Felix who raised his guard just as an explosion went off around him. As the smoke cleared, Jared descended from above with a spinning back-heel kick that landed squarely on Felix's head. Dazed, Felix got up only for Jared to launch another flurry of punches and kicks at him before finishing off with an electric attack. "You've gotten better but not good enough to beat me," taunted Jared while charging up. A yellow aura enveloped his body as he transformed into a half-human half-wyvern form - Erik the Thunder Wyvern. "Seems like you forgot I can transform into my spirit guardian too," retorted Felix as he too began charging up surrounded by a blue aura transforming into a light blue colored wolf – Mudar the Moon Wolf! "Wow! I had no idea Felix could do that; maybe that island did take him to the next level," observed Reggie watching the spectacle. "Now, this is what I call a fair fight," Jared declared. Felix and Jared charged at each other with full force, sparks and lightning flying with each hit. Jared attempted a kick but Felix easily dodged it and landed a punch on his gut. Jared winced at the impact before throwing a punch of his own at Felix who felt the same pain. Seizing Jared’s arm, Felix pulled him closer before launching an upward kick sending him into a daze. Jared stumbled back, his spine scraping against the floor in a sensation reminiscent of rope burn. He rose to his feet, eyes swimming with dizziness. Felix sprinted towards him, launching a kick followed by a flurry of punches until his fist transformed into a glowing blue light. With one final punch, Jared was sent flying backward through a cloud of smoke while Felix returned to his defensive stance. Jared struggled to his feet again, laughter etched on his face. "I can't believe you've gotten stronger since our last tournament," he said. "Thanks," Felix responded, flashing him a thumbs-up. Suddenly, Jared lunged at Felix with a feinting punch before switching tactics and delivering a swift kick. He then slid under the airborne Felix and as soon as he landed, Jared delivered an electrifying punch into his gut. "Ultra-Move: Wind Thunder OF the Call!" he announced. Above their dojo, enormous clouds materialized out of nowhere, and from them descended a huge yellow lightning bolt that coursed through Felix’s body and into Jared’s palm due to their positioning at that moment. The impact shredded Felix's gi and sent him crashing onto the dojo floor. "I win again; you'll never defeat me," Jared declared as he walked away nonchalantly. However, just as he turned his back on him, Felix staggered to his feet once more. "I'm not finished yet," stated Felix defiantly while his eyes started glowing with a light blue hue. "What? How is this possible? My attack hit him directly," exclaimed Jared in disbelief. As if responding to the tension between them, the moon suddenly emerged in place of Jared's dissipating clouds. "Oh no! I forgot about sunset when we began," muttered Jared anxiously. Ignoring him, Felix shouted out “Super Move: Moon Fang Blast,” as he charged up for another attack. While Jared was still distracted by the moon, Felix unleashed his attack. A massive light blue blast erupted from his palms with a howling sound effect. Jared bore the brunt of the blast head-on and was promptly swallowed by a loud explosion. When the smoke cleared, Jared was sprawled on the ground unconscious. "I finally beat him," Felix breathed out in relief. Reggie approached to congratulate him, "Yeah, you did it; took you eight tries though," he teased. "Don't remind me of how long it took; I'm just glad my training paid off and I managed to defeat him," replied Felix. Mudar chimed in, “Good job, Felix; I knew we could do it." Grinning at Mudar, Felix acknowledged, "Finally a victory we deserve thanks to you."

Jared regained consciousness slowly and mumbled, "So this is what defeat feels like against a rival.” He turned to Felix and Reggie with a smile and said, “Thanks for the fight. I'll get stronger than you, Felix. And when we get back to the island, I want my rematch." Erik couldn’t hold back his surprise as he said “I still cannot believe you lost to him.” Jared shrugged casually before replying “Sooner or later, I knew that he would surpass me; I’m just hard on him because I haven’t seen his true potential.” Felix’s summer vacation lasted only five months during which he trained every day with Jared and Reggie until it was time to return to Zogohr Academy.
