Chapter 26: Jaya Island
-----
How could they let the Third Hokage and his allies act so freely, without restraint?
The solution was simple: create trouble for them. Keep them so occupied that they couldn't focus all their energy on targeting the Uchiha clan.
This way, the Uchiha could gain more time for stable development.
"No problem! Leave it to me!" Uchiha Kaito thumped his chest confidently.
"Good! Let's do it this way!" Uchiha Jiri nodded.
"I'll keep exploring! I'm almost at Jaya Island!"
"Today, I should be able to finish this task!"
"Next stop, Loguetown!"
"It's a pity we haven't found a suitable flying beast for reaching Sky Island yet. We'll just have to wait a little longer!"
Otherwise, the clan's financial burden could be instantly alleviated.
While gold wasn't convenient for direct currency exchanges, it could easily be converted into standard currency at the Gold Exchange in the Land of Fire.
"No rush! It's only a matter of time."
"Who says we can't find a suitable flying beast in this pirate world?"
"Keep an eye out for such information while you're exploring."
Kaito reminded her.
"You're right!"
Jiri's eyes lit up at the suggestion. "I'll keep it in mind! Gotta go now! Bye!"
With that, Uchiha Jiri teleported away.
---
A few hours later...
"Whew! So this is Jaya Island? It's as chaotic as I expected."
The moment Jiri landed on the island, she felt numerous hostile and curious gazes from all directions.
"As expected of the pirate Paradise!"
"Let's take a look around. I need to map out the area to find a secure foothold for Kaito later."
"With his current strength, wandering blindly could be dangerous."
With that thought, Jiri decided not to disembark immediately. Instead, she sailed her boat around Jaya Island, scouting the area.
Her cautious behavior surprised many pirates on the island. Some hesitated to attack, while others began preparing.
Having awakened her Observation Haki, Jiri easily sensed their intentions.
Her eyes glinted coldly as she murmured, "Fools courting death."
A group of minor pirates daring to target her was nothing short of suicidal.
Before long, Jiri navigated her boat to a northern beach of Jaya Island. She leaped ashore gracefully, pressed her hand against her vessel, and stored it into her personal spatial dimension—a feature Kaito had granted her through the Space-Time Gate.
This spatial storage, with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters, was specifically allocated for Jiri's use. It allowed her to store essential supplies, goods, and more.
Of course, Uchiha Mikoto had access to a similar privilege. After all, the Space-Time Gate's dimensions spanned ten kilometers in radius and height, offering immense storage potential. Its capacity would even grow as Kaito's strength improved. Who knew—one day, it might evolve into a complete world.
"Over there! She's landed!"
"Hahaha! She couldn't resist after all. And she's a beauty! Maybe we can sell her for a good price."
"Sell her? Why not keep her for the boss?"
From the nearby forest came the sound of hurried footsteps and brazen voices.
Jiri frowned as she turned toward the commotion.
Soon, a group of pirates burst from the trees. Seeing that she hadn't fled, they were overjoyed and charged at her.
"Fire Style: Great Fire Annihilation!"
In a flash, Jiri completed her hand seals and exhaled a massive wave of fire.
In an instant, the area ahead—over a hundred meters—was engulfed in scorching flames. The inferno fanned out in a cone, incinerating the charging pirates.
"AAAHHH!"
"Nooo!"
Screams of agony filled the air but were quickly silenced.
Once Jiri sensed no remaining life forms within the flames' radius, she ceased her chakra output. The fire subsided, revealing a scorched, glassy terrain littered with charred remains.
Satisfied, Jiri activated her Body Flicker Technique and vanished.
---
In just over ten minutes, Jiri had scouted most of Jaya Island, mapping key areas. To avoid unnecessary trouble, she used the Transformation Jutsu to blend in and evade detection.
"Alright, that's enough. Time to head back."
After inspecting some shops in the town and finding nothing particularly interesting, she retreated to a secluded corner and teleported away.
---
Meanwhile, in the Senju Clan compound within the Shinobi World...
"Grandma, you wouldn't believe it! The Uchiha clan is undergoing bold changes. They've even opened up the Police Force and created an elite division..."
Tsunade shared the news of the Uchiha clan's reforms with her grandmother, Uzumaki Mito, after returning home.
"This doesn't feel like something the Uchiha would've done in the past!"
"After all, they've always treated the Police Force's authority as their private domain.
They've fiercely guarded it and never allowed outsiders to interfere."
"I can't figure out what's gotten into them!"
Tsunade shook her head in confusion.
"I've heard about it too," Mito replied with a nod. "Hiruzen has already spoken to me about it."
"Huh? My teacher?" Tsunade blinked in surprise. "Why would he bring it up with you? Was he asking you to stop them?"
"Not exactly," Mito said, shaking her head. "This is a rare opportunity for him to interfere with the Police Force. How could he pass it up?"
"He doesn't understand why the Uchiha are doing this, so he asked me to meet with Uchiha Jiri to gauge her intentions."
"Especially since there's word that Jiri has regained her peak strength."
"Hiruzen is nervous."
The Third Hokage had also expressed concerns that these reforms could undermine the isolationist policies Tobirama had implemented to alienate the Uchiha and foster public disdain toward them.
Mito, however, was indifferent. She had never supported Tobirama's policy.
"It's unfair to the Uchiha," she thought.
"All it does is push them further away. Eventually, it'll lead to disaster, and Konoha will pay the price."
Sadly, Hiruzen didn't share her perspective.
Even so, Mito agreed to meet Jiri—not to uncover any Uchiha secrets, but to confirm whether Jiri had truly regained her strength.
If she had, Mito wondered if she might enlist her help to extend her own life.
It wasn't fear of death that motivated her, but concern for Tsunade, Nawaki, Kushina, and the remnants of the Senju clan.
As a wise elder, Mito had long observed the subtle measures Hiruzen and others had taken against the Senju, Uchiha, and other powerful clans.
If they acted this way while she was alive, what would they do once she was gone?
