Chapter 19: Uchiha Mikoto
-----
Kaito smiled faintly and said, "Loguetown is in the East Blue. There are plenty of geniuses there worth my attention. When I have the time, I might go and recruit them.
"It'll be easier to earn their goodwill while they're still young."
He continued, "Also, the dragon bone needed for the longevity elixir is in the East Blue."
"And there's a swordsmanship dojo there that's perfect for honing this world's sword techniques.
"The dojo master is a great swordsman—his strength is at least on par with a Marine Vice Admiral in this world.
"The best part? Admission is pretty simple. As long as you have a clean record, you're good to go."
Kaito wasn't about to let treasures like Nami and Kuina slip away. Even Zoro, Ace, Sabo, and the future arrival of Luffy in the East Blue could be opportunities to build goodwill.
With their personalities and potential, once their trust was earned, they could become invaluable allies.
"Dragon bones and untapped talents, huh? Makes sense—that's definitely important," Uchiha Jiri nodded in understanding. "And what about Jaya Island?"
Kaito continued, "Jaya Island involves the legend of the City of Gold."
"The City of Gold?" Uchiha Jiri raised her eyebrows. "That's great! Reforming and empowering the clan will require substantial financial resources."
"While our current finances are decent, the proposed reforms will demand a significant investment."
"Little Kaito, are you trying to ease Mom's burden by addressing this issue? How thoughtful of you!"
"Heh, you got me!" Kaito scratched the back of his head with a laugh. "That's exactly what I'm thinking…"
He proceeded to explain the situation on Jaya Island and the existence of Skypiea. He even mentioned the yet-uneaten Logia-type Rumble-Rumble Fruit in Birka.
"Hiss!" Uchiha Jiri couldn't help but gasp. "Who would've thought the One Piece world would have such wonders?
"A Knock-Up Stream launching an island ten thousand meters into the sky… Permanent White-White Sea clouds and the existence of Sky Islands—this is truly fascinating! I can't wait to see it!"
Compared to all that, the City of Gold seemed less enticing.
"There'll be an opportunity," Kaito reassured her with a smile. "But we'll need a means of flight. Otherwise, relying on the Knock-Up Stream would just be gambling with our lives."
Just because Luffy and his crew landed safely on Skypiea in the future didn't mean it was easy. They were protagonists with plot armor.
For anyone else, it wasn't ten deaths out of ten, but at least nine were guaranteed.
Relatively speaking, reaching Skypiea from the Summit of the West in the West Blue was more feasible.
Of course, the safest method would be to find Visalia, a small Sky Island, and use their airships.
Thankfully, the Shinobi World did have some flying techniques.
"Flying methods?" Uchiha Jiri pondered aloud. "In the Shinobi World, we do have some options. For instance, the Uchiha Clan's Perfect Susanoo can fly.
"Unfortunately, the ordinary Mangekyō Sharingan isn't enough to achieve Perfect Susanoo—not yet, at least.
"If I can multiply my physical and life energy several times over, it might be possible."
Kaito nodded knowingly. In the original story, there were instances of Mangekyō users unlocking Perfect Susanoo. Obito, for instance, had relied on White Zetsu cells.
"Other options include the Light-Weight Rock Technique from Iwagakure or Magnet Release from Sunagakure, but these are difficult to obtain."
"A decade ago, the Sky Ninjas who attacked Konoha also had flying contraptions. Unfortunately, after their defeat, they vanished.
"Perhaps we could send people to track them down."
"And then there's summoning contracts with flying creatures. What do you think?" Jiri asked, turning to Kaito.
Kaito rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "That's worth trying. Ideally, the summoned beast should be strong enough to fly to such high altitudes.
"Once we successfully land and unlock the area on the map, we won't have to worry anymore. We'll be able to teleport there anytime."
The ordinary ninja hawks from the village wouldn't cut it.
"Alright," Jiri said decisively. "I'll handle this. For the City of Gold and the Rumble-Rumble Fruit, it's worth the effort.
"Also, the Sky Island's special dials could make excellent commodities—they hold significant value."
Selling these in the Shinobi World could generate massive profits. If the Uchiha Clan could break free from their financial dependency on Konoha's missions, it would remove a major point of leverage the Third Hokage held over them.
A huge win for the Uchiha.
"Anything else? Speak up now," Jiri urged.
"Not for now," Kaito replied, shaking his head. "Though I'd like Mikoto to come over so I can check if her favorability is high enough.
"If it's satisfactory, we can contract her right away and start her training to become stronger.
"I've heard that Fugaku's been pursuing her. I'd love to see his face when he realizes he can't hold a candle to her in strength!"
Kaito smirked slyly.
"Heh, you're quite something," Jiri said, chuckling as she tapped Kaito's forehead. "Poor Fugaku—he must've done something to offend you."
"Hmph!" Kaito snorted, raising his chin. "It's not just about Mikoto. The man's incompetence nearly led to the clan's annihilation."
"Alright, alright," Jiri replied, clearly amused. "I'll let Mikoto know to come over for dinner. Be home by six, and I'll also have the ninja pill research notes ready for you."
With that, Jiri waved her hand, dispelling the soundproofing barrier before disappearing from the One Piece world.
Kaito left the room and headed to Kureha's library to study medical texts.
---
Later that day, nearing six o'clock, Kaito informed Kureha before leaving for his room and flashing back to the Shinobi World.
The moment he arrived home, the aroma of freshly cooked food wafted through the air.
In the living room, he saw Uchiha Mikoto setting the table.
"Yo, Mikoto-nee!" Kaito greeted with a smile, raising his hand.
At the same time, he activated his innate talent to check her favorability—it was at an impressive 87 points.
"Perfect! Right on target," Kaito thought, grinning to himself.
"Ha?! Kaito?" Mikoto froze in surprise. "When did you grow so tall? And you look so much healthier! Have you recovered?"
It had only been a month since Mikoto last saw him, but in that time, Kaito had grown over ten centimeters taller and looked much sturdier.
If it weren't for his familiar, handsome face—now even more refined—she might not have recognized him.
No, he wasn't just the same; he'd become even more striking. A true heartthrob in the making.
"Yeah, pretty much," Kaito replied with a smile. "I'm almost fully recovered. Soon, I'll be able to start training!"
