Chapter 113: 113 Partners Are The Most Important
Simu rubbed his forehead, feeling a bit frustrated.
Obito was just too noisy. Despite being repeatedly defeated by Kakashi, he kept challenging him, not knowing if he was being reckless or brave.
But maybe someone like Kakashi, with a cold heart, needed this kind of persistent spirit to deal with him.
"Alright, you two," Simu finally intervened to stop their bickering.
"Now that we've introduced our dreams, it's time to begin the test."
With that, Simu pulled out two bells. These bells were used by the Third Hokage, Jiraiya, and even by Simu himself in his training. Kakashi would use the same method in the future.
"There are two bells here," Simu explained. "Your task is to take them from Two-Tails."
"Those who get a bell will have food, and the ones who don't will go hungry at noon."
The three of them froze, stunned.
What was this? Using a tailed beast as a sparring partner for the first test?
Even Kakashi, usually calm, looked uneasy.
He wasn't worried about Two-Tails killing them, but he was concerned that the beast might accidentally knock them out!
Only Obito, ever the optimist, exclaimed with confidence: "Rin, don't worry! I'll definitely beat this big civet cat! We'll each get a bell, and Kakashi will go hungry!"
Obito was truly one of a kind in the Uchiha family.
Rin wanted to cover Obito's mouth and tell him to stop. Did he even understand what a tailed beast really was?
Even if three Jōnin fought together, they couldn't defeat a tailed beast.
Simu put his hands in his pockets, his face expressionless. "You Uchiha kids really have confidence. I look forward to your performance."
He tossed the two bells into the air, and they landed right at Two-Tails's feet.
Two-Tails lazily got up, releasing a terrifying pressure that filled the area. As a tailed beast, the power of Two-Tails was overwhelming.
Simu had strengthened the beast even further. After the Battle of Mount Kikyo, he had Katsuyu bring back a severed tail from the Eight-Tails. After absorbing it, Two-Tails's strength had been boosted even more.
Poor Eight-Tails—first it lost a horn to Orochimaru, and now it had its tail taken by Simu.
Simu wondered if the Eight-Tails could grow back its tail, but he quickly pushed the thought aside as his mind wandered elsewhere.
Two-Tails lightly stepped on the bells and spoke calmly, "Humans, as long as you can get the bell, you'll succeed."
Obito charged forward without hesitation. "Leave it to me!"
"Idiot," Kakashi muttered, following behind him.
Rin, seeing the others go, also rushed forward.
Two-Tails smirked and let out a roar, releasing a massive tailed beast chakra.
The powerful wave of energy hit the three of them like a storm, and in an instant, Obito, who was leading the charge, was sent flying.
Seeing Obito thrown away, Kakashi quickly drew his sword, White Fang, and planted it firmly in the ground. With his other hand, he grabbed Obito mid-air.
"Thanks, dead fish face," Obito grumbled, though he was grateful to be saved.
Ignoring Obito's comment, Kakashi focused, his expression serious as he looked for a way to deal with the situation. Rin was safe for now, held tightly by Obito.
The pressure from Two-Tails lessened slightly, and Obito saw an opening. "Kakashi, use Wind Style ninjutsu to help me!"
Without hesitation, Obito released Kakashi's hand and quickly formed a series of hand seals.
"Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique!" Obito announced, his voice filled with determination.
Though Obito's talent wasn't remarkable, he had mastered this technique through hours of practice and effort.
Obito had planned to impress the leader Jōnin but didn't expect to face the powerful Simu.
Seeing the opportunity, Kakashi acted without hesitation. He quickly formed hand seals and unleashed his Wind Style ninjutsu.
"Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!"
Kakashi's skill was impressive—despite just graduating, his Wind Style technique was already at the level of a typical Chūnin.
The powerful fireball Obito had created collided with the wind, forming a massive wave of flames that charged at Two-Tails.
Without flinching, Two-Tails raised a paw and casually swatted the fiery wave aside, instantly extinguishing the flames. Obito stood stunned, unable to comprehend what had just happened.
"Damn it! I won't give up!" Obito yelled, charging directly at Two-Tails.
"Idiot..." Kakashi muttered, watching coldly. He then decided to throw a few kunai to cover Obito.
Two-Tails yawned lazily, raising his paw and swatting in front of him. The immense force hit the ground, sending a powerful airwave that sent Obito flying once again.
"If this is all you've got, I doubt you're ready to be Simu's student," Two-Tails remarked.
A few kunai flew through the smoke, aiming for Two-Tails. But the beast simply let them fall harmlessly onto his body, where they were quickly melted into molten iron by the intense flames surrounding him.
Just as one kunai was about to touch Two-Tails, it suddenly transformed into Kakashi.
"Our goal is just to take the bell, not defeat you!" Kakashi, now revealed, said coldly.
He rushed toward the bell with incredible speed.
"Little devil, you don't think it'll be that easy, do you?" Two-Tails said, releasing his paw from the bell and sweeping it toward Kakashi.
Although Two-Tails controlled his strength, the impact still caused significant damage. With a loud bang, Kakashi instantly transformed into smoke.
"Shadow Clone combined with Transformation Technique. It's you, Kakashi," Simu remarked, standing in the trees nearby, his eyes filled with approval.
Realizing he had been tricked, Two-Tails hurriedly looked around for the bell.
Just then, an arm emerged from the ground and reached out to grab the two bells that had once been pressed beneath Two-Tails's paw.
Just as Two-Tails prepared to make a move, he heard Rin shout, "Teacher Simu's test is over!"
That's right. Simu had said that as long as they got the bell, they would succeed. So the test was over the moment Kakashi got the bell.
This meant Two-Tails could no longer attack them.
"Congratulations, Kakashi. You passed the test," Simu said, walking out of the woods with his hands in his pockets.
"Simu-sama, I was careless..." Two-Tails said, feeling a bit ashamed. He hadn't expected to be outwitted by a young ninja.
Simu waved his hand dismissively. "It's alright."
He then looked at Kakashi and asked, "What I'm more curious about is, who will you give the other bell to?"
Kakashi paused, caught off guard by the question.
As Kakashi hesitated, he heard Obito shout,
"Kakashi, give the bell to Rin. It's just a meal; I don't care about it, the great Obito!"
Rin was about to refuse, but Simu quickly intervened.
"Alright, then Kakashi and Rin pass the test. Obito, you will be punished."
Obito stuck out his neck and replied, "Punish me then!" He was promptly hung upside down from a tree.
Simu then took out the four lunch boxes prepared by Lindy.
One for himself, one for Rin, and one for Kakashi and Two-tails—leaving Obito without a share. It was unclear why Two-Tails liked human food so much, especially bento.
"Now, enjoy your lunch," Simu said. "But don't give any to Obito, or it'll be considered a mission failure."
At these words, Kakashi's eyes shifted. Simu then disappeared.
Only Obito, Kakashi, and Rin remained hanging, with Rin staring at the spot where Simu had vanished.
Kakashi carefully looked around, then noticed Two-Tails was swallowing saliva, clearly tempted by the food. It was a bit soft, but Kakashi held back his thoughts.
"Simu-sensei hasn't gone far yet," Kakashi said, reassuring himself.
He sat on the ground with his lunch box and began eating. Rin hesitated for a moment before sitting down beside him and opening her own box.
After a couple of minutes, Rin cautiously asked, "Is it okay now?"
Kakashi didn't respond, so Rin got up and hurried over to Obito. She fed him the remaining food, spoonful by spoonful.
"I knew you were the best, Rin! Not like that dead fish face Kakashi..."
Kakashi's eyes twitched upon hearing Obito's remark.
This idiot...
Sure enough, Simu's familiar sleepy voice echoed.
"Oh my, what do I see? It truly is the deep affection of teammates."
Simu appeared on top of the large tree, looking down at Obito and Rin.
"Simu-sensei, that..."
"It's all my fault! I asked Rin to bring me food. If you want to punish me, punish me! You unscrupulous teacher!"
Obito immediately stood up, trying to act innocent.
A golden light flashed, and Simu quickly cut the rope tying Obito.
"Okay, stop barking. Let's go. I'll take you to have some barbecue."
"Really?" Obito's eyes lit up.
"Certainly."
Simu casually put his hands in his pockets and walked toward the barbecue shop.
Kakashi, a bit confused, muttered to himself, "Shouldn't ninjas prioritize missions...?"
As Simu passed Kakashi, he lowered his voice just enough for Kakashi to hear, saying, "For me, partners are the most important."
