Kingdom of Betrayal

The men look at me like I just lost my mind. And you know what? I might have. 

"I will not have the king's wishes denied because you are power hungry. And if you think I'm going to stand here while you strip my son of his right, then you sorely mistaken" I say firmly. 

Lincoln's jaw clenches "This is far from over, Sophia" he walks out and the other men look dumbfounded, but when I wave my hand and they all leave. 

It doesn't go unnoticed that Lincoln never addressed me by my title. He never has and probably never will. 

"He'll be back" Hayden says from behind me "And when he comes back it will be with a war"

I frown and glance at him "You truly think he would start a war just to sit the throne?"

He nods "Men have started wars for less and there's nothing more dangerous than a man who's determined to take what he wants"

I sigh "I really don't want a war with him but I also don't want the throne taken away from my son" 

"Then find a solution that could work for both you and Prince Lincoln"

"What would satisfy him other than sitting the throne himself?" I ask "He went as far as to find Romero's son" 

His eyes narrow "Did you know about the boy?"

I nod "He mentioned it in his diary"

He hums "Perhaps you should keep reading the diary, maybe you'll find something to hold against Lincoln. You'll need the leverage in case you need to stop a war from happening"

"Yeah" we stare at each other for a moment and I ask "What would you do?"

He raises an eyebrow "About?" 

"About Lincoln. Would you rather go to war or hand over the throne?"

He's quiet for a moment before saying "I would hand over the throne to prevent bloodshed" 

Yeah, I would too.
