King Beyond Death

Varadon leisurely strode inside the Elvian mansion. It was not his first time visiting the empire. As he was a regular 'guest', the guards were used to him so they did not stop him when he entered. After couple of minutes, the elvian emperor, " Elyndor Thalion ", made his way towards Varadon.

" Yo Varadon, what's up man. What made you visit us this time? Did you come here to look at those beautiful elvian women again?"

Looking at Varadon who was leisurely walking inside the mansion as if it belonged to him, Elyndor tried taunting him.

"Hmm, what women. I am already married to the most beautiful woman on this planet. Elyndor is your body itching for some beatings?, where is your wife?, does she know about your quirk of sneaking into beast domain ? Do you want me to tell her about your hob-?"

Knowing what Elyndor was trying to pull, Varadon used Elyndor's tactics against him.

Elyndor did not let Varadon finish. He paced towards Varadon and shut his mouth and started shushing.

" Shhhhhhhhhhh, hey you muscle head are you trying to get me killed?, what would you do if she hear-"

"Yes Varadon, I would clearly like to know what Elyndor does when he is not inside the mansion, and what about the hobby which you were about to say?"

Even before Elyndor could complete his words, he heard a sharp voice behind him.

Both Elyndor and Varadon looked at that source of the voice and gulped hard.

A woman with pale skin, long ears, long hairs, with 5'6 height stood couple of meters away from them, with a smile on her face, which both the men who were looking at her felt creepy.

*She is the current elvian empress, "Elana Thalion"*

" Haaa, darling it's nothing, this idiot Varadon was talking about the time when we used to sneak outside to hunt some beasts. Right Varadon?, please tell her the truth".

Elyndor looking at Varadon with both pleading and killing manner, pressured him to agree to whatever he said.

"Yes Elana, it's true, I was just talking about the good old days. It's nothing great. Oh yeah how have you been? Been a while since we met right. I heard you went out to examine something the last time I visited this place. Did you find what you were looking for? . Also how is your grand daughter doing? Is she okay? Is she prepared for her awakening as well?"

Trying to escape from the situation he had created, Varadon steered the topic towards their grand daughter, which he knew would work, as this two were suckers for their grand daughter.

"Hmm, I believe what you said Varadon. I hope he is not wrong Elyndor, if I found that you are hiding something from me, you know what's gonna happen right?"

Looking towards her husband with a smile on her face, spoke to him in a chilling tone.

Hearing his wife's tone, he went towards her and assured her that there was nothing else and he had not hidden matters from her.

Still with a sceptical look on her face she looked at Varadon and answered his other questions.

" Hello Varadon, it's truly been a while since we last met right? How long has it been, 3 years?."

"The thing is there has been some disturbance in the borders of our lands. So I went to check on that. But now the situation within the inner region becoming more unstable, I had to given up on that matter and came to help Elyndor with internal matters."

She explained the reason for her absence and why she had returned without completing the work she was doing. Saying this she continued speaking with a more pleasant and happy expression on her face unlike before.

" As for my grand daughter, she is doing well, thank for asking. She is enjoying her time within the mansion. Though inner region is not a good state, it's still manage able and we made sure it doesn't reach her. She even made some friends when she was out for a stroll with her mother. She is such a lovely and understanding kid. She used to call me every day from her cell phone and enquire about my day. I was just playing with her, when I sensed your presence, so I came here to say haii to an old friend. But I heard you two chatting about some other matters"

As Elana was happily expressing her feelings about her grand daughter, a maid served them some tea and snacks.

Varadon kept nodding his head when Elana was praising her, he remembered his grandson and felt a sting of pain in his heart.

But when he heard what Elana said he almost spit his tea out.

" what's the matter with you Varadon, I can clearly feel something is off about you. Are you okay?. Is your visit to our land might have something to do with whatever's on your mind?"

Elyndor who clearly did not want his wife to continue talking, looked at his friend and asked. Since the moment Varadon entered the mansion, Elyndor could feel from distance that something was bothering his friend today. So he cautiously enquired his friend about his trouble.

" Elyndor before I answer, I have a question. Do you have anything to do with the increased security in the borders of human domain. Is it related to 'that' matter?" Questioned Varadon

" Yeah it was me. After word got about our situation, we had a lot spies infiltrate us and trying to take advantage of our Crisis. Most of the spies were from you human domain. We kicked some out, killed some but the the number is not decreasing. So I decided to increase the soldiers around the borders, I will soon kick the remaining spies out, but for now, my hands are tied." Elyndor answer honestly.

" Okay then. Well actually we had a problem of our own, which we are facing. So we had some of our knights enter into your land to investigate, but they were stopped at the borders and sent back. So I had to personally come to investigate within your lands. Before I start my investigation, I wanted to let you guys know, as this is your place and I did not want to cause any misunderstandings between us."

Hearing what Varadon said, both Elyndor and Elan looked at each other before turning towards Varadon with a serious expression on their face. They know Varadon, if the matter was not serious he wouldn't mind waiting until the situation within the elvian domain was sorted out, or he would have sent his knight order with his plaque. Seeing that he himself is out investigating, they knew it might be something related to him personally.

" We don't have any problem with you investigating in our lands. You are one our best friends, so if you investigated even without letting us know, we wouldn't mind much. We believe in you, we know you won't do anything that'll harm our people. But for you to come out in person, is the matter serious? Do you want our help? "

Elana spoke assuring Varadon about their stance in his matter. They were also prepared to help Varadon if he needed their help.

" I might need you help this time, being the rulers of the this domain, you guys know about the nook and corner of your domain."

He paused before continuing,

" As for the reason why iam here, my grandson is missing from past 15 days".
