Yorkshin City.
The weather outside was sunny, which gradually changed to overcast as thunderclouds gradually approached the city from afar.
Risotto was in a rather spacious penthouse that was located on one of the top floors of a skyscraper that was in the centre of the city.
'How long can we wait for them? They're already ten minutes late.'
Risotto himself was sitting on a luxurious expensive leather sofa of a reddish shade, opposite to which there was another sofa of the same colour and several armchairs on the sides, which were made of the same material. And between all this was a low glass table, on which were various documents and writing materials.
Somewhere in the corner there was a black grand piano, obviously made of rare wood, which was currently empty but ready to be played at any moment. Not far from the same piano stood a large bookcase, half filled with various books. On the walls hung paintings of many different styles.
In general it was evident that everything that was present around was obviously not cheap and shouted about the serious wealth of its owner. And all this was just one room.
Risotto continued to sit relaxed on the sofa and waiting for his guests, occasionally glancing at the nearby panoramic windows, one of which was open and let in a light breeze that mussed his grey hair, which had not been hidden by the hood for a long time.
'How long has it been since that adventure ended? Probably a year or so. Maybe a little more, maybe a little less. I've lost count already. But time goes by pretty fast. It seems like just yesterday I was just an ordinary hunter who had embarked on a dangerous journey with my team to stop a beaten-down psycho from getting his hands on possibly the most dangerous thing in the world. And today I'm sitting in this luxurious penthouse, which has just about everything you could possibly want, and which is about to receive some important guests who will make things even better. It would be marvellous if they weren't late.'
Risotto sat for another minute, until at last the door opened and Prosciutto entered the room.
- Well, how was it? - He asked Prosciutto.
- I report that the Nostrade family has arrived.
- Good, let them come in.
He left the room and the Nostrade family, consisting of father and daughter, entered the room.
- Please, come in and sit down. - Risotto addressed his guests.
- Thank you. It's an honour to meet you. - The father said in an excited voice, then bowed slightly and sat down with his daughter on the sofa opposite Risotto.
- So... It's been a long time I've been looking forward to meeting you, Mr Light Nostrade. It could have been done a long time ago, but you've only decided to do it now.
- I'm sorry,' he replied with fear in his voice, sweat beading on his forehead, 'I've only just plucked up the courage to take this step.
- Better late than never. If you had refused, it could have been much sadder for you, and I'm glad you realised that.
- Yeah, I'm glad too.
- And don't be afraid of me. Relax, - Even though Risotto told his guests to relax, he looked at them with such a look and spoke in such a voice that fear comes over you, - So, shall we get down to business?
- Yes, of course, I'm ready to sign everything.
- That's great,' Risotto had a slightly frightening smile on his face, then he took one of the documents from the table and handed it to the man, 'Write down all the necessary information and sign it, and then it's over.
- Excuse me, can I go out and call my trusted people to clarify something. It shouldn't take more than two minutes.
- Yes, of course.
Light Nostrade left the room and his daughter remained seated across from Risotto.
- I-excuse me,' the girl said cautiously to Risotto, 'What happens when my father signs everything? It's going to be okay, right?
'Hmm, this child... The report I got said she was a spoilt and capricious girl who caused a lot of trouble with her requests. And now she's being quite polite and courteous. She must be afraid of me. Afraid for herself and for her father.'
- When your father signs this document, your entire fortune, your business, your enterprises, will pass to us. But you'll be able to live a quiet life without the fear that one day your competitors will want to get rid of you. I think it's the best option you could have chosen.
- Please don't hurt my father. Is there anything I can do for you?
- Hmm, what can you do for me, girl?
- I can tell you the future.
- What?!
- I have the power to tell the future, so I can tell you the future.
'The future'? Is she serious? That wasn't mentioned in my report. It must be a carefully hidden ability that only she and her father know about.'
- All right, we can try. Go ahead, Neon Nostrade.
Neon took a blank piece of paper and a pen from the table, then handed them to Risotto.
- Please write your name, date of birth and blood type on the sheet.
Risotto was a little hesitant at first, but he decided to write.
- Here.
- The predictions I usually make are a few metaphorical verses. Each verse describes the events of future weeks, starting with the current week. Although there are exceptions and the future can be predicted further into the future.
Neon picked up a pen, whereupon a small ghost appeared near her hand and began writing with her hand while she herself was in a state similar to unconsciousness.
'What is it? Is it the Stand? No, Nan's energy can be felt from that creature, it's just such an unusual Nan ability. All right, let's see what she tells me.'
Neon finished writing and put the fortune-telling paper on the table, but as soon as Risotto reached for it a strong wind blew from an open window nearby and carried the paper to the window, so that it almost flew out, but caught on the window itself.
- Oh, it's going to fly away!
Risotto quickly ran up to the almost flying leaf and was about to grab it, but stopped at the last moment.
'Hmm, do I really need this? Do I want to know my future? I guess there's no point in it, because there's no avoiding it anyway. And besides... I think I know roughly what it says.'
Risotto went back and sat back down on the couch, and the fortune sheet flew away.
- Would you like me to make another prediction? Because that one flew away
.
- No, there's no need for that. I've decided I don't want to know my future.
Meanwhile, Light Nostrade returned to the room.
- Okay, sorry for the delay, I've got all the details and I'm ready to sign.
- Here you go.
He sat down on the sofa, took a pen and wrote everything he needed in the document.
- Excellent, - Risotto said happily, - You did the right thing. And now you're free to go.
- Thank you very much. We will hope that now all our business will serve and bring income to Passione.
Light and his daughter bowed once more and left the room, immediately after which Prosciutto entered it.
- How is it going? - He asked, 'Did it go smoothly?
- Yes, as it turned out, they had a head on their shoulders, and they wanted to live.
- It's a shame not everyone does. A lot of people think they can still do something and keep fighting. What idiots.
- You better tell me what about that other family. Are they still stubborn?
- Yeah, and they hired some second-rate hunters to protect them. The regular guys can't handle them.
- So send in someone from the Elimination Squad. They've only recently been assembled, and they're just about to make some money.
- Hmm, whatever you say. I'll go, then.
- Yeah, good luck.
Prosciutto left the room, leaving Risotto to himself.
'Yeah... Another mafia family giving up their business voluntarily in the hope of staying alive. Too bad there aren't many of them. But anyway, no matter what they do, the Passione's still going to take over sooner or later.'
***
It is not known whether Risotto really knew what was written on that fortune-telling sheet, but in any case he was right about one thing - the future could not be avoided.
The old king was defeated,
The jester took off his cap and put on his crown and sat on the throne.
The stone of omen split into eight pieces,
The old room emptied and closed forever.
Tough times await your kingdom,
There will be strife,
Enemies will come from outside to thwart the holy mission,
And a great bloody war is coming,
And a requiem of sorrow will be sung for the Slaves of Destiny.
Commentary on Prediction for a King
Phew, I finally finished this fanfic. I think it was pretty good for a first time. I don't know how, but this work got as many as 80 likes (at the time of writing this chapter), which is a bit of a surprise to me.
There were some good moments and some not so good moments.
I also want to say that I'm not going to stop here and will continue this story, but as a separate fanfic.
In the meantime, I need to take some time off, work on myself and experiment with my style.
Thanks to all those who read me and who enjoyed this work. See you in the future.
