Risotto suddenly felt life returning to him. The coldness that had recently enveloped his body was gone, all his senses returned to normal, and what's more, he felt an unprecedented burst of energy, as if he had been reborn.
'What just happened? Am I resurrected? Back from the dead?'
- What just happened? - One of the royal guards found the strength to speak,' The arrow... She... He...
'Arrow? Oh, right, the arrow. I think I'm beginning to understand. It just stabbed me in the heart, and as strange as it is, it seems to have resurrected me. And not only resurrected me, but gave me something more.'
Still trying to comprehend what had happened Risotto managed to get to his feet. He examined himself, his arms, his chest. It was hard to believe, but the wound the King had inflicted had healed, and with it the arrow had disappeared, apparently left in his chest. It was unbelievable.
With each second that Risotto examined himself he became more and more aware of what had happened, until finally it dawned on him completely.
'So that's the power of the arrow. I don't know why, but suddenly the realisation of everything came to me. I now realised what the arrow actually is. It's not just capable of giving people Stands, no... Until just a little while ago, I thought that if a person who already had a Stand pierced themselves, nothing would happen, but that was a misconception. If you pierce yourself with an arrow again, it will allow you to go beyond the limits of what you can do. The arrow will give you what you want more than anything else in the world. In a way, it's a little wish fulfilment. And it's given me a new power. A power that I just realised. A power that will allow me to win. And not just win, but change everything... Even my destiny.'
- What happened to you? - The King turned to Risotto, 'The arrow.
- Where's the arrow? - Risotto smirked a little and put his hands in his pockets and walked slowly and confidently towards the Ants, who stood ten metres away from him, -What do you care now? I've already killed you.
Such insolence enraged the guards, and especially the one-armed man.
- How dare you! I'll kill you!
- On your knees.
Suddenly, all the Ants, as if under a great weight, collapsed to their knees. Although it would be more accurate to say that only the King knelt down, the rest of them were completely pressed to the ground.
- What is this? - With difficulty, the King said, -What heaviness... What kind of power is this?..?
Although with great difficulty, but the King managed to keep on his knees and not to fall down, but it was out of the question to get up on his feet even a little. His guards could hardly move their fingers. After a few more seconds the ground beneath them began to crush, and the King was no longer able to withstand the pressure and was pinned to the ground, as were his guards.
Risotto came closer to them and with a look of contempt in his eyes, but remaining perfectly cool, addressed the King.
- You wanted to know what an arrow does, didn't you? I'm demonstrating it to you right now. How does it feel? It's so special, isn't it? When you feel like you're superior to everyone else in the world, but then someone comes along who has no problem stomping you into the dirt. Now, just like before, there's still a huge gulf between us. Only this time, it's turned in my favour.
- Ah. You.
- I could instantly kill you all right now without much trouble, but that would be too easy. I'll show you even more of my new abilities.
In the next instant the pressure disappeared and the ants were able to rise to their feet, but barely had they done so as the King tried to hit Risotto with his tail. Risotto went for it and hit the tail with his fist in response. Nothing happened at first, but after a second, the King's tail turned inside out, exposing muscle, meat, and blood vessels.
You could see from the King's face that it was in terrible pain, but he still tried to hold back from screaming.
At the same time, a guard cat swooped down on Risotto from above, but as soon as it was above him and was about to strike him, it immediately began to fly upwards, as if something was pushing it away.
Next, the red big guy tried to attack Risotto, but as soon as he swung, Risotto moved behind the big guy's back at a great speed, so that no one could even see him, and hit him in the head, after which it exploded into bloody shards.
The cat stopped flying upwards at the same time and landed on the ground, after which all the Ants began to be pressurised with renewed vigour.
- 'From now on, any action you take is useless,' Risotto addressed the Ants, 'Your Nan level is now irrelevant, as is your strength and toughness. In the face of [Metallica Requiem], none of that matters at all.
The pressure disappeared, but immediately after that all the Ants flew up and levitated in the air, and before they could do anything, they were pinned to the ground again and then flew up again, and so it went on for almost ten seconds.
Risotto finally stopped playing with his enemies and cancelled his ability, then instantly ran up to the one-armed guardian and hit his head with his fist, which tore it to shreds just like the last guardian.
The cat guardian at the same time managed to use her Nan ability, which was in the form of a strange creature behind her back that controlled her every move like a puppeteer. Risotto was instantly at her side and destroyed her head with a single blow. He was about to turn around, but to his surprise the guardian's body was still moving, even though the head was missing. Without elaborating, he simply struck a blow to the stomach and chest, which turned them inside out, exposing the internal organs, chest, flesh, and all other parts. Only then did Nan's ability disappear and her body stopped moving.
All the royal guards were dead. Only the King remained.
Risotto leisurely walked towards the King, travelling at a normal speed already. The King tried to strike him with his fist, but Risotto dodged and struck back at the same arm, which turned inside out, while the King still managed to keep the pain at bay by some miracle. Risotto struck another blow to the other arm, which also turned inside out, depriving the King of the ability to attack with his arms and tail. Before the King could do anything about it, he was once again under tremendous pressure, from which he fell to his knees without being able to get up.
Still remaining completely cool Risotto approached the King and bent down to speak to him.
- What do you think? Impressive, isn't it? To tell the truth, I don't know all the new capabilities of my Stand myself, but as you can see, even that was enough to defeat all of you without any problems. Tell me, are you afraid?
The King was silent, but even without his words Risotto understood everything perfectly well. He looked into the King's eyes, and the King looked into his eyes. Risotto's eyes inspired indescribable terror, like those of a beast of prey cornered, while the King's eyes were full of fear. They were the eyes of a cornered prey.
Risotto turned to the King again.
- I've heard that you kind of wanted to enslave mankind. Well, in that case, I have something to tell you. Do you know who God is? Have you learnt that yet? All right, I'll think I have. Now, what I'm saying is that you could never, ever enslave mankind. No matter how powerful you are or how many armies you have, it's impossible. And that's because mankind is under God's safe guard, and the only way to destroy mankind is if he authorises it. And until then, all attempts will fail, no matter what you do. It may sound a little weird or even stupid, but that's my theory. Hmmm... I'm becoming more and more of a believer lately... Oh well, time to wrap this up.
Like his previous opponents, King Risotto finished off King Risotto with a blow to the head, causing it to burst into shreds.
'That's it. The threat to humanity in the form of the King and his guards is destroyed. Of course, there are probably still other Ants left in the world, but they probably don't pose any significant threat.'
With a sigh of relief Risotto headed towards his friends.
- This is incredible! - Kurapika, who had already healed himself and was back on his feet, exclaimed, 'We won! I can't believe it!
- That's good, but it's too early to rejoice. Better heal the others. Giaccio, Illuso, Prosciutto and Pesci have been badly hurt, they need your help.
- Oh, yes, right away!
Kurapika ran to Pesci to help him, but Risotto was in no hurry to rejoice. He had one thought on his mind.
'We've defeated the ants, but that doesn't mean total victory. There's still something left. The final opponent.'
While Risotto was deep in thought there was the sound of footsteps, and it was clearly someone else. Turning towards the footsteps Risotto saw exactly who he expected. Someone he had been waiting to meet for a long time. It was Diavolo.
He stood a little more than ten metres away from Risotto and silently stared at him with a frightening and slightly insane look. The light wind developing his long pink hair, combined with the silence, only made the situation more frightening.
- It's... It's him...!.. - Said Kurapika who had just finished healing the last wounded man. Terror was clearly audible in his voice, and his entire body was trembling. It was obvious that his first encounter with the Diavolo had left its mark in the form of fear of the one who had almost killed him.
With the others, roughly the same thing was happening to Kurapika. No one could say a word. No one except Risotto.
- Don't interfere,' he said to the others, 'I'll handle this myself.
Everyone obeyed him and quickly stepped aside.
'Here we are at last. It's time to settle this once and for all.'
Diavolo and Risotto stood staring at each other in silence, making the tension in the air grow with every passing second. Risotto's eyes were full of determination. He had completely put away fear and was ready to fight his old enemy. Diavolo's eyes, on the other hand, were full of madness. They were the eyes of a man from whom anything could be expected.
They stood opposite each other like warriors, ready at any moment to draw their blades and strike.
After a while, the Devil finally spoke:
- That's how... Ha... Ha... Ha-ha... A-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! - He started laughing loudly, which only added to his madness, -You... She chose you! Not me, but you! And I almost made it, but I came up a little short because of that bloody old man! This is the second time it's happened. Second time the arrow gets away from me. It would seem that everything is working out, that everything is going exactly as planned, that fate is on my side, but at the last moment everything goes wrong. For the second time in a row, when I get close to the arrow, fate turns away from me and the arrow goes to someone else. Why is that, Risotto Nero?
- ...
- You are the one destined to fail and die, as you did last time. So why have you become fate's favourite? What have you done to make it choose you?
- ...
- You're not talking. You know what? I don't need an arrow. I can do without it. I'm the Devil! I don't need an arrow to get power, I'm all-powerful! And you... You're going to die no matter what you do or how much power you have!
'Right now. Everything will be decided right now, once and for all.'
Risotto tensed up and prepared to attack, while Diavolo smirked, gave him a contemptuous look, and lo and behold... -.
- he was already right in front of him, his Stand swung and struck Risotto in the stomach.
- Khaaaa...
Risotto's stomach was punctured, he was vomiting and bleeding, and his insides were destroyed, making it hard to even scream in pain.
- Risotto Nero, understand at last,' said the Diavolo leaning over his ear, 'No one can escape his fate. No one but me. Only I, Diavolo, can escape it. That is my ability. I look into the future and carve it out. That's why I'm invincible! And you... You're just a buffoon that has been fumbling the strings controlling your puppets for a long time now. A buffoon who thinks too much of himself. A buffoon who has decided to play by his own rules and play his own game in the court of the Crimson King.
- You should have... - Risotto struggled to say something, - You should have... You should have hit for sure. Kha... You... You're already dead.
Immediately after these words, the hand of the Devil's Stand that was still in Risotto's stomach turned inside out.
- Waaaah! What did you do?! You...
Gathering all of his last life force into a fist, Risotto was able to raise his hand and punch Stand Devilolo in the chest, causing her to immediately turn inside out.
- But how... But how... Such... - Unable to stand any longer, the Diavolo collapsed to the ground, - How is this... Possible? After all, I... Diavolo... I... I... - These were his last words, after which he said nothing more.
Unable to stand any longer, Risotto collapsed to the ground.
'That's it... It's definitely a complete victory now. Even though I'm about to die, I was still able to do it. You say no one can escape their destiny? Well, that may be true, but you're wrong about something. Even you couldn't escape your destiny. Using your powers, you could run from it, but you couldn't avoid it. You said I was fate's favourite, but that's a mistake too. Fate doesn't have favourites. There are only things that are meant to happen. You can be incredibly lucky for a long time, but if it all falls apart in the end, it doesn't mean fate has turned its back on you. It means it was meant to be that way from the beginning. And nobody can change that. No one... And I unfortunately couldn't do it either...'.
Risotto felt more and more as the grave coldness enveloped his body once more, his senses gradually fading away and his eyes closing. But before he finally stopped feeling anything he heard someone shouting his name.
- Risotto! Risotto, don't die! - It was Kurapiki's voice, and he was getting closer, -You're a goddamn lunatic! - He said as he ran up to Risotto, kneeling down beside him and beginning to heal him, -You can't risk yourself like that! It's not determination, it's insanity! You should at least think of the others.
- I... I'm sorry...
'Unbelievable. I can feel my life coming back to me. 'Am I not going to die? 'But I thought I was destined to die. 'Has my fate changed?'
- Okay, I think it's almost healed. Try to stand up.
Risotto looked down at his stomach and found that the terrible wound the Devil had inflicted on him was almost completely healed. He tried to stand up and succeeded, though the residual sensations still hurt so much that he almost fell down again, but luckily Kurapika picked him up.
- What's in there...
- It's better not to say, let the wound heal,' Kurapika continued to hold his chain around his stomach, 'For now, let's go to the others.
Kurapika led him forward to the rest of his friends, and they were already standing upright, except for Illuso, who was still unconscious on the ground. Eventually they all took turns rejoicing that Risotto had survived.
- What a fucker. You scared the hell out of us.
- We're so glad you survived.
- Yeah, it would've been tough without you.
- The boss was so worried about you!
- How could you risk your life like that?! How stupid is that?! I was scared shitless!
Meanwhile, Illuso regained consciousness.
- Oh, what? Did we win? Or are we all dead and already in heaven?
Risotto was incredibly happy to see all of his friends alive, which even made him laugh.
- Ha... Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
- Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! - Kurapika started along with him, -Remember how you said we'd all laugh when we got to the end? Looks like that time has come.
- Ha, that's true.
Everyone just chuckled a little at first, and then started laughing loudly, except for Illuso, who was still lying on the ground and didn't realise what was going on.
Smiling broadly and kindly, Risotto turned to the others:
- Let's sit for a while longer and then we'll be on our way.
Kurapika let go of Risotto and he sat down on the ground, which everyone else did as well. After sitting for about ten seconds, he took off his hood and threw it away. The others were surprised at this, but they didn't ask questions, for they understood everything perfectly well. They knew that for Risotto it meant the end of an old life and the beginning of a new one.
- I just can't believe that we won, - said Prosciutto looking into the distance, - I thought it was something from the category of impossible, but we did it, damn it.
- You're a pessimist, - Formaggio turned to him, - I knew from the very beginning that everything would work out, and I believed that everyone would be alive and well.
- Yes, yes, alive and well. - Illuso, who had already fully recovered, said sarcastically.
- What's the big deal? You're alive, you haven't lost any limbs, you're unharmed. And the fact that you were unconscious for a while, that's nothing.
- Oh, I guess you're right.
All silently and with happy smiles on their faces looked into the distance until finally they saw the sun begin to rise.
- Wait a minute! - Melone exclaimed, -We didn't start the battle until the evening. So why is the sun rising now? What the hell is this? It's like time has sped up.
- It's all right,' Risotto replied, 'It's just that time flies by during the battle, so we didn't realise it was morning.
- That fast?
- Yes, it must have been.
As Risotto watched the sunrise, he heard something fall near him. Lowering his head, he saw an arrow lying on the ground beside him.
'Hmm, it fell out of my chest? I didn't even notice it.'
Taking it in his hands he looked at it carefully and with interest.
- What now? - Turned to him sitting next to Kurapika, looking at the arrow and Risotto with interest, 'We won, but what now? What do we do next?
- Next...? - Risotto thought for a moment. He looked at the arrow, then at Kurapika, then into the distance, and finally spoke, -We'll still have some things to do when we get home. Remember a couple of days ago, when we were sitting in the woods by the fire, I said I was planning something big that would make us all happy? Well, that's what we're going to do when we get back. In the meantime...' He thought again for a moment.
- In the meantime what?
- In the meantime, let's enjoy the beauty of the world.
