Chapter 343: Bloody Hell
After the death of the vessel of Thirty-Three, Kaden was no longer able to bear the crushing weight of the domain on not only his mana but also his mind.
Thus, the domain dissipated into beautifully sinister crimson lotuses that disappeared into the folds of space, making Silver City reappear once more in the waking world, vomited by Emptiness, for Kaden's comprehension of emptiness was shallow and still too weak.
Seeing the reappearance of the city and the disappearance of emptiness, the crimson star of Aurora shot forward inside the city with blistering speed, leaving behind a trail of red light. Aurora immediately got up on wobbling legs and followed it with a smile plastered on her exhausted face.
She went past destroyed buildings, each of her steps making her boots redder and redder with the sea of blood carpeting the ground.
She suppressed a shudder.
The air was drenched in the scent of iron, decay and despair. As she ran, she noticed towers of piled bodies and numerous severed parts of flesh and bones scattered across as far as her eyes could perceive.
Already the city was back, and already crows were flapping their black wings, crimson eyes reflecting hunger, and began to dive deep into this buffet, chirping with chilling pleasure while feasting on the eyeballs, intestines, tongues and flesh of the fallen.
It was truly a feast of crows.
Aurora swallowed down the overwhelming urge to puke at the wrenching sight. Her body unconsciously began to quiver before she closed her eyes and followed the star, deciding to turn away from the consequences of her goal of vengeance.
She didn't succeed, for the scenes replayed inside her head continuously. But she bit her lips and continued her sprint, the sound of blood splashing echoing.
She didn't have to run for long though, for soon the star stopped. She mirrored it, halted her feet, opened back her starry eyes and they rested immediately upon the kneeling man in front of her.
He was covered in blood. The stench was supposed to be harrowing and unbearable, yet Aurora felt almost drawn to the scent of it. It was as if the blood itself smelled different on him.
But Aurora realized she was shaking, her body refusing to take one step forward.
'What is happening?' she screamed inwardly, feeling a weird sense rising inside her just by looking at Kaden.
And as if sensing her presence and her gaze on him, Kaden slowly raised his head, his face partially covered by his slightly long hair, and turned to look at Aurora above his shoulder.
Aurora instantly took a step back, her heart skipping a dangerous beat at the sight of those white empty eyes of Kaden. She plastered her hands on her mouth to push back an instinctive scream.
'K-Kaden?' she stuttered inside her mind, afraid to even let out a sound.
Suddenly, Kaden blinked his eyes. One time, two times… by the third, the weird sensation Aurora was having disappeared completely.
Kaden's eyes were back to normal, showing deep exhausted crimson. Seeing the drained-out color of Aurora's face, Kaden smirked softly,
"Oh, beautiful Lady Aurora," he teased, voice weak, "Maybe this sight is too much for—!"
BAAM!
Kaden's words were cut off midway as Aurora slammed into his chest, hugging him tightly, not minding the blood at all.
"You… you scared me, Kaden." She breathed, her body trembling slightly as she remembered those empty white eyes that looked at her as if she was nothing more than… Aurora.
Something that shouldn't hurt her.
But Kaden never looked at her so emptily.
Hearing her whisper, Kaden smiled wryly, all while doing his absolute best to lessen the side effect of his domain on his mind.
He knew Emptiness was dangerous. But he had underestimated the scale of it. At that moment, only his Will was helping him brush off the consequences.
Because Kaden suddenly began to believe that emotions were useless, that he should free himself from those constraints caused by his heart and the world.
A tempting whisper, he admitted.
But he would be damned if he let it slither inside his mind.
'Bloody hell! My Will. I need to increase it even more!' he panicked internally before forcing a smile and looking at the sky above,
"Why should you be scared? It was only a pitiful god who took over the body of his devotee or was it pawn? Meh, whatever. The fight was easy." He said while shrugging lazily.
Aurora froze, then slowly — mechanically — separated herself from him to look at him face to face.
Kaden was still looking above.
"Please, repeat for me again?" Aurora said absentmindedly, thinking maybe she had heard wrong.
Kaden didn't respond immediately. His crimson eyes were fixed on the sky, where his half White Phoenix legacy was reacting strongly to the sea of white fire that was burning the whole sky, accompanied by the agonizing scream of a man.
He smiled crookedly, his perception screaming at him absolute danger. Danger of death.
"Aurora, call Green," he said, "I need Soleil here as soon as possible. Let him use a teleportation rune if one's available." He ordered, then he took out his space ring and began to drink mana and healing potions at Legendary rank like water.
He needed to regain his strength.
Aurora already felt the incoming danger, so she didn't waste time. Using her runic communication tool, she called Lady Green, hoping that their battle was over and that she was the one who won.
Kaden meanwhile, 'Death, how many death coins?'
[50.] Death answered.
'Bloody hell.' Kaden's heart skipped a beat.
He raised his eyes toward the sky just in time to see it part away like a curtain, revealing another reality that made his head ache just by looking.
"Aurora," he called absentmindedly.
"Yes, my dear." Aurora whispered as she looked at the same sight as him.
"We are going to die, aren't we?"
Aurora's smile was strained, "Most probably."
They cursed in unison and immediately sprang into action, preparing for their inevitable clash against the Sun Empress, the winner of the fight.
…
Meanwhile, in Morningstar City, Lady Green had just ended the call from Aurora.
She was leaning her body on a shattered bloodied wall, her left hand severed, a plump of exposed flesh clearly visible, her left eye slashed cleanly. Her stomach was ripped open horizontally, clearly showing her intestines and entrails.
Her green locks were drenched in blood, her crystallized green staff lying on her side.
She was at the edge of her life, needing only a gentle tap to the cheek from a mortal and death would claim her instantly. Yet she was smiling, looking at the dead bodies of the Morningstar members sprawling in front of her, their heads severed.
"Now, now, now," she whispered, coughed blood, then grinned with bloodied teeth, "Still not done yet, little prince?" Her voice was hoarse, yet filled with a twisted joy.
She was happy. She was so thrilled to kill so many people without much thinking. Happy to let loose.
Her face was flushed red, her pink eyes squinting and gleaming with a sinister hue.
Added to that, with the pain she was feeling and the scars she would probably have after healing…
Green was in complete euphoria.
'Ah… this is life! This is the meaning of life! Kill or be killed! To fight, to taste blood, to give everything without restraint and die without restraint.'
That was all that mattered to her. To do whatever she wanted, and let death claim her whenever it wished.
She had no issue dying, and she had even less issue dying while accomplishing nothing.
She came into this world with nothing. So she didn't distaste the idea of leaving it with nothing in her name.
This life was just a short trip, the destination being death. So she wouldn't hold life dear, and she would not constrain herself.
Her grin widened so much she began to laugh, loud and unrestrained, all while coughing blood. Yet she didn't stop. She continued until she heard footsteps coming her way, her laughter dying down slowly.
She raised her head, her untied green bloodied locks falling over her face, as she watched Soleil walking toward her with the corpse of Morningstar placed in his hands respectfully.
He was crying golden blood, his eyes red, his face like one carved of stone, with wounds all over his body and face.
Green smiled, "Now, now, now, little prince…" she slurred, feeling deep pain in her stomach, "Did Morningstar go easy on you? I really thought you would die, you see."
Soleil didn't answer, simply standing there, staring at her with deep blazing hatred, doing nothing else.
All around them, the remaining soldiers of Green and Soleil were ending the Morningstar soldiers.
Each of their cries was like someone was piercing the heart of Soleil mercilessly. He bit his lips until blood began to trickle down.
Green laughed at his misery, before taking out from her space ring five condensed droplets of crimson blood shrouded by crimson-gold fire.
She stretched her mouth open and swallowed them in one go. Immediately after, her wounds began to heal at a visible rate. Her flesh began to knit together, blood stopped gouging out, her left eye healing.
She sighed in relief then, "You know, little prince, I really do fancy Lord Prometheus." She suddenly said, while getting up slowly, body swaying.
"He is really cool and powerful. I have never met a being with such a strong blood affinity. But that's not all, his flame is completely never before seen. And besides…" she smiled,
"…I really like his name. Hm, that suddenly gives me the urge. Hahahah. Why not?"
Her smile deepened, "From now on I am Vert Prometheus Emerald!" she declared proudly, as if reaching a sudden enlightenment.
Then with a chuckle, she began to walk toward Soleil unhurriedly, her wounds still healing, "Now, now, now, You have been ordered to go to Silver City, little prince." She said while taking the body of Morningstar off his hands, and whispered,
"Now go, little prince. I will take care of him until you come back."
She laughed heartily.
"If life still courses inside your heart, of course."
Soleil glared at her, golden blood falling faster. He gritted his teeth, "I—!"
He didn't even get to finish his sentence, for having received orders, Soleil had no choice but to obey immediately.
So he did, and departed while screaming inside his mind… a scream Green seemed to have heard.
Yet she threw her head back and laughed even more, her locks swaying.
Ah…
'I am getting wet of ecstasy.'
