KanColle X Devil May Cry: Devil Trigger Protocol

Chapter 31: Chapter 30: New Weapon – Prepare for the Decisive Battle

Akashi sighed, "It's no good."

The day after Jester's attack, the fleet girls scrambled to clean up and repair the naval base. The factory was completely out of commission, halting construction, development, and sortie preparations.

Yudachi murmured, "What's the Admiral gonna do?"

Shigure replied, "He's talking with the Marshal. Probably after that."

Murakumo added, "The demon's still out there."

Hatsuyuki noted, "It's all over the news."

Jintsuu urged, "Let's focus on what we can do."

Devil May Cry Naval Base – Admiral's Office

Dante was on the phone with the Marshal, discussing next steps.

Marshal: "The factory being down is bad news."

Dante: "Leave the Abyssals to other bases. I'm hunting that demon in town."

Marshal: "Hold off. The Army's already deployed, and they know you broke through their barricade before. Getting into town won't be easy."

The Army's demon sweep had failed, barely containing the threat. Dante's Navy ties were exposed, complicating things.

Dante: "So, what's the plan?"

Marshal: "We're negotiating with the Army. Prepare your fleet girls for battle."

Dante: "The factory's busted. What prep?"

Marshal: "They'll insist on going with you. Get them ready for demon combat."

Dante: "I can't take them. This isn't like before."

Marshal: "You know they won't stay put. Head to Yokosuka. I'll arrange things."

The call ended abruptly. As Dante pondered, a knock came.

Ooyodo entered with Houshou, Akagi, Kaga, Kongou, and Hiei.

Akagi declared, "We're going with you."

Dante: "You can't handle this."

Kaga: "Maybe. But letting you go alone is impossible."

Dante: "This about Akagi's dream?"

Houshou: "We won't let you die."

Dante: "I'm not planning to."

Akagi: "In my dream, you fought alone. Together, we might change that fate."

Kongou: "You told us to rely on you, Admiral. Now's the time!"

Hiei: "I'll protect you with all I've got!"

"Please!" the six pleaded, bowing. Dante knew they'd follow no matter what. He sighed.

Dante: "Fine. Pack for a move."

Akagi: "Move?"

Dante: "To Yokosuka. Ooyodo, inform everyone."

Ooyodo broadcasted the departure orders.

Preparations done, a problem arose at departure: Dante's four-seater car couldn't fit everyone. The nearest station was too far.

Dante: "Guess I'll go alo—"

"No way!" the fleet girls shouted.

Akashi perked up. "Yudachi, what about that?"

Yudachi: "Oh, that!"

They revealed a trailer hitched to the car, built during "repairs" (or playtime, Hatsuyuki nearly blurted). Dante, Houshou, Akagi, and Kaga took the car; the rest crammed into the trailer.

Kisaragi: "Satsuki, stop stepping on my foot!"

Satsuki: "I can't move!"

Shiratsuyu: "I wanted to sit up front!"

Shigure: "Shiratsuyu, behave. It's dangerous."

The car swerved around a curve.

Naka: "Whoa!"

Hiei: "Admiral, turn slower!"

Dante's mood soured amid the noisy complaints. "Can we storm a town like this?"

Akagi: "It's normal."

Houshou: "Safe driving, please."

Dante: "This is safe."

Kaga: "Naka's about to fall off."

Dante: "Imagination."

Yokosuka Naval Base – Front Gate

Yokosuka's Admiral waited with Fusou and Maya. "They're late," she said.

Fusou: "We're 30 minutes early."

Maya: "You're fidgeting like crazy."

"Am not!" the Admiral snapped. Dante's car roared up, the trailer's fleet girls dizzy, the car's passengers pale.

Dante: "Took forever 'cause of them."

Souryuu: "Safe driving? What's that? Tasty?"

Yokosuka's Admiral: "What's going on?"

Dante: "Yo, thanks for the help."

"Are your girls okay?"

"No problem."

They headed to the meeting room.

Meeting Room

Kaga: "Never thought I'd be back here."

Akagi: "Indeed."

Yokosuka's Admiral: "You were originally ours. Join us?"

Akagi: "My Admiral is him. I decline."

Kaga: "I'm with him too."

Yokosuka's Admiral: "Shot down, huh?"

She teased Dante: "They adore you. Don't let them down."

Dante: "The 'adore' part's extra. They're the ones troubling me."

Ooyodo: "You mean that?"

Dante: "Let's get to business."

Yokosuka's Admiral offered full access to their factory and resources, pending Army negotiations.

Dante: "You girls sure about coming?"

Silent but resolute, their eyes said it all: they'd follow.

Dante: "Can I use the kitchen?"

Yokosuka's Admiral: "For food? We've got that covered."

Dante: "Hiei, make curry."

Hiei: "Really?!"

Her eyes sparkled, thrilled to cook her infamous dish.

Junyou: "Why Hiei's curry?"

Kita: "We'll wipe out before fighting demons."

Ooi: "Don't worry, Kita won't have to eat it!"

Kongou: "The demons get the curry, right?"

Dante: "Exactly, Kongou. Hiei's curry is demon-killing stuff."

Kongou preened. "Admiral praised me!"

Haguro: "Calm down."

The issue: how to deliver the curry to demons?

Jintsuu: "Carry a curry pot?"

Tenryuu: "That'd get in the way."

Dante: "Load it into your rigging."

Miyuki: "That'd just break our gear!"

Hatsuyuki: "All gooey…"

Dante: "Who said pour it in directly?"

Yudachi sparked an idea. "Load curry into shells and fire them!"

Dante: "Can you do it?"

Akashi and Yudachi nodded. "We'll try!"

Dante: "Hiei, make as much curry as you can. Others, help her."

Hiei: "Got it!"

"What about our rigging?" Akagi asked.

Yokosuka's Admiral: "Our Akashi's prepping it. Use any gear you want."

Dante: "What's the price for this?"

Yokosuka's Admiral: "Survive, and maybe a date."

Kongou: "D-Date?!"

Suzuya: "No way!"

Kisaragi: "I get first dibs, right?"

Maya: "Age equals years single, huh?"

Yokosuka's Admiral: "Shut it! I'm desperate too!"

The meeting derailed. Dante cut in, "That's on hold. Get moving."

"Roger!" they replied.

Factory

Akashi and Yudachi worked on the curry shells. "We need to rethink the structure," Akashi said.

Yudachi: "Make and test everything we can."

Akashi: "Torpedoes and bombs too. Can we finish in time?"

Yudachi: "Gotta try!"

Miyuki, Hatsuyuki, Naka, Tenryuu, Satsuki, Fumizuki, Kita, and Shiratsuyu were the test-fire team.

Tenryuu: "Uh, okay…"

Hatsuyuki: "I don't wanna shoot curry."

Akagi asked Yokosuka's Akashi, "How's our rigging?"

"Still adjusting. Wait a bit," she replied.

Kaga: "This waiting is frustrating."

Souryuu: "We're bombing with curry?"

Junyou: "Never thought I'd fight demons with curry."

Aoba: "Curry, huh…"

Houshou: "It's effective. Stay sharp."

Kitchen

Hiei cooked furiously. "Full effort!"

Mamiya: "Sorry for borrowing your kitchen."

Yokosuka's Mamiya: "Anytime."

Hiei: "Nee-sama, this goes in the curry?"

Kongou: "Do what feels right."

Tatsuta: "Can't wait to see what comes out."

Hiei tossed in bizarre ingredients, including a wriggling black thing.

Den: "She's throwing in everything."

Akatsuki: "What's curry again?"

Ikazuchi: "What's that?"

Haguro: "Should we stop her?"

Suzuya: "Normal curry's useless, so…"

Shigure: "This'll be something else."

Murakumo: "We ate that stuff?"

The pot erupted in green, foul-smelling steam.

Ikazuchi: "What's that?!"

Kongou: "Hiei!"

Ooi: "What did you put in?!"

Hiei: "I don't know!"

Suzuya: "It stinks!"

Haguro: "Jintsuu's down!"

Shigure: "Jintsuu collapsed!"

Suzuya: "Do something!"

Hiei: "Nee-sama, what do I do?"

Kongou: "Don't ask me!"

Ooi: "Evacuate!"

Kisaragi: "Nooo!"

The kitchen became a disaster zone.

Office

Dante and Yokosuka's Admiral talked, Ooyodo and Fusou standing by.

Yokosuka's Admiral: "You really going there?"

Dante: "Got an invitation."

"Fleet girls shine on water. On land, they're like normal humans."

"Know that."

"You think you can win?"

"They won't stay behind."

"The town's a mess—buildings warped, people trapped. The Army's losing ground."

"Sounds rough."

"It could spread across Japan."

"That's why we're prepping."

"Protect those girls. Come back alive."

"Getting soft?"

"Shut up!" she snapped, her care for the fleet girls and respect for Dante clear. "This help's a loan. Survive, and it's even."

Dante: "Big debt, huh."

Training Grounds

The curry was "done," and Akashi and Yudachi packed it into prototype shells. Amid chaos, they tested them under Dante and Yokosuka's Admiral's watch.

Dante: "What's that smell?"

Yokosuka's Admiral: "Who's responsible?"

Shigure: "The curry."

Dante: "Wasn't this bad before."

Suzuya: "It evolved."

The shells leaked a stench, the test team trembling.

Tenryuu: (Why's it leaking?)

Kita: (Can't breathe.)

Hatsuyuki: (I'm done…)

Miyuki: (Smells even holding my breath!)

Fumizuki: (Someone switch!)

Dante: "Shoot."

The shells hit, spreading the stench. Only Tenryuu's misfired, curry oozing from her cannon.

Naka: "Tenryuu, you stink!"

Tenryuu: "Not me!"

Dante: "Make odor-proof shells. This won't work."

Akashi and Yudachi: "Got it."

Heavy cruisers, battleships, and carriers tested next. Kongou and Suzuya's shots worked, as did the carriers' bombs, but the stench persisted.

Souryuu: "Ugh!"

Kaga: "Disgusting."

Junyou: "Sobers you up."

Dante: "Akashi, Yudachi, mass-produce."

"Yes, sir!"

Fusou reported, "The Marshal called. Army negotiations are done. You're cleared."

Dante: "Good."

They prepared to depart.

Akashi: "Admiral, your hair's long."

Dante: "Yeah."

"Want a trim? Clearer vision for battle."

"Now?"

Akashi sat him down, skillfully cutting his hair. "Not bad, right?"

Dante: "Not bad."

Front Gate

Dante: "Thanks for everything."

Yokosuka's Admiral: "That smell's not going away."

Hiei: "Sorry!"

"This is another loan. Pay it back."

"No confidence in clearing that."

"Your haircut surprised me."

"Suits me, right?"

"Yeah."

Fleet girls snickered at Dante's shorter hair.

Dante: "Don't laugh."

Yokosuka's Admiral: "Be careful."

Dante: "Look after Mamiya, Ooyodo, and Akashi."

The non-combatants stayed behind. Dante and the fleet girls loaded into the car and trailer, leaving Yokosuka as night fell.

Fusou: "They're gone."

Yokosuka's Admiral: "Yep. We'll handle the Abyssals. Dante's got the demons."

Fusou: "The curry smell?"

Yokosuka's Admiral: "What do we do…"

Mamiya, Ooyodo, and Akashi: "Sorry!"
