KanColle X Devil May Cry: Devil Trigger Protocol

Chapter 24: Chapter 23: Blazing Wind ~The Potential of Hiei’s Curry~

Devil May Cry Naval Base, Command Office

Houshou, Junyou, Jintsuu, Naka, Satsuki, and Fumizuki gathered in the office.

Dante leaned back. "Ooyodo says it's an escort mission for transport ships on the southern trade route."

"Work time!" Naka chirped.

"Escort only. Don't chase trouble," Dante warned.

"Easy peasy!" Junyou slurred.

"Then go," Dante said.

Houshou hesitated. "What about Hiei?"

Dante stared at the ceiling. "Mamiya's with her. She'll be fine."

"Make sure it doesn't get out of hand," Houshou urged.

"Got it. Now move," Dante replied.

The fleet left. Dante muttered, "It's not just bad cooking…"

He headed to the mess hall.

Mess Hall

Mamiya stood by Hiei. "I'll guide you. Follow my instructions."

"Yes, ma'am!" Hiei saluted.

"Go, Hiei!" Kongo cheered.

"Leave it to me, big sister!" Hiei beamed.

Dante, skeptical, thought, She's here because she can't be trusted.

Hiei's curry had melted demons during the picnic. Had anyone eaten it, they'd be dead. Mamiya was tasked with teaching her to cook properly.

Dante eyed Hiei. "Make curry again. Listen to Mamiya."

"Absolutely!" Hiei nodded.

Hiei and Mamiya disappeared into the kitchen. Dante and Kongo sat, waiting.

"Your sister's a menace," Dante said.

Kongo sighed. "She's… disappointing."

"She almost killed someone at the picnic," Dante added.

Kongo fell silent.

"You any good at cooking?" Dante asked.

"I can cook properly!" Kongo insisted.

"Hard to believe after her," Dante teased.

"You're mean today!" Kongo huffed.

In the kitchen, Hiei, unnoticed, poured something into the curry.

The curry arrived. Dante and Kongo stared.

"What's this?" Dante asked.

"Curry!" Hiei declared.

"Why's it blue?" Dante said.

"There's a face in the roux…" Kongo muttered.

It wasn't curry—it was a monster.

"Mamiya?" Dante turned.

"I don't know how this happened… It should taste fine," Mamiya said.

"You first," Dante told Kongo.

"No, Admiral first," Kongo countered.

"Hiei'd want her beloved sister to try it first," Dante said.

"I can't be so rude!" Kongo protested.

No one budged. Hiei, beaming, delivered the death sentence. "I made it for you, big sister! Eat!"

"Oh…" Kongo faltered.

Her sister's radiant smile battled the cursed curry. Kongo took a bite and collapsed, muttering, "I see Valhalla…"

"Big sister!" Hiei cried.

"It's no good. Redo it!" Dante ordered.

The next curry was pitch black, bubbling like lava.

Dante thought, I want pizza…

Desperate, he had an idea. "We've got the ultimate eater here."

Akagi, Kaga, and Soryu were summoned.

"Food!" Akagi cheered, then saw the black mass. "What's that?"

"You're feeding us this?" Kaga asked, horrified.

"Hiei's love in a bowl," Dante said.

They bolted. Dante's Cerberus chains snared them, freezing their legs and binding their arms.

"My legs'll get frostbite!" Akagi wailed.

"Docks'll fix you," Dante said.

Akagi was force-fed and collapsed.

"Unforgivable!" Kaga snapped, clamping her mouth shut. Dante pinched her nose. She gasped, and he shoved curry in. Kaga fell.

"No, no, no!" Soryu screamed, then fainted after a bite.

"Mamiya, you teaching her right?" Dante asked.

"Of course!" Mamiya insisted.

"Next batch," Dante sighed.

A purple curry appeared, writhing like it was alive.

"No way! It's gross!" Suzuya yelped.

"Please spare us!" Haguro begged.

"Apologize to Hiei," Dante said.

Suzuya screamed. Haguro fainted.

"This is insane!" Tenryu roared.

"It'll haunt us~" Tatsuta purred.

"Hiei wants you to eat," Dante said.

Tenryu collapsed. Tatsuta followed.

"Who can eat this?" Dante muttered, his goal shifting.

"No way!" Miyuki shouted.

"Don't wanna die!" Hatsuyuki whimpered.

"Not hungry…" Shigure mumbled.

"Eat it yourself!" Murakumo snapped.

"This isn't right," Kisaragi said.

Dante shoved curry into their mouths. All five collapsed.

"When'd this become a lab experiment!?" Kitakami yelled.

"You'll regret this!" Ooi swore.

"Do something, Ooyodo!" Akashi pleaded.

"I'm too vital to eat this, right?" Ooyodo said.

"Traitor!" Akashi cried.

"For Hiei," Dante said, feeding them. They screamed and fell.

"I don't wanna eat it…" Inazuma whimpered.

"I'll make tasty curry, Commander!" Ikazuchi offered.

"You're all that's left. Help me out. Akatsuki," Dante said.

"Wha!?" Akatsuki squeaked.

"A proper lady doesn't fuss. You won't grow," Dante teased.

She wailed and collapsed, followed by Inazuma and Ikazuchi.

"Total wipeout," Dante said. "This isn't food—it's violence."

"It's mean!" Hiei protested.

"Did you taste it?" Dante asked, shoving curry in her mouth. Hiei collapsed instantly.

"Felled by her own creation," Dante sighed. "Hopeless, even with Mamiya."

Nevan appeared.

"Don't pop up uninvited," Dante said.

"I've got a story," Nevan purred.

"If it's good, I'm listening," Dante replied.

"Some humans have special powers," Nevan said. "Their creations can destroy demons."

"You're saying Hiei's one?" Dante asked. "Explains the picnic, but what about this insane destructive power?"

"There's a downside," Nevan said. "Like being deaf, mute, or… unable to do certain things."

"Bad cooking's her downside?" Dante asked.

"It worked, didn't it?" Nevan vanished.

If true, it explained the melted demons. No proof, though.

"Can't dump this in the sewer…" Dante muttered, hauling everyone to the docks with Mamiya.

Next Day, Command Office

The phone rang.

"Devil May Cry," Dante answered. "Old man?"

"Possible demon sighting," the Marshal said.

"Possible?" Dante asked.

"A kid reported seeing a 'ghost' to the police," the Marshal explained. "They didn't take it seriously. I heard it from the MPs. No hard evidence, but check it out."

"A kid, huh? Where?" Dante asked, getting details before hanging up.

Houshou entered. "Admiral, no one's left their rooms."

"Expected," Dante said.

"I told you to keep it under control," she said.

"Save the lecture," he replied.

"Where are you going?" she asked.

"Work," he said.

At an abandoned shrine in a rural area, Dante arrived by car with Kongo and Hiei.

"You didn't need to come," Dante said.

"I'm sticking with you until you eat my curry!" Hiei declared, clutching a small pot.

Kongo was there to supervise.

"Trouble," Dante sighed, eyeing the long staircase to the shrine.

A group of kids emerged from the path's side. Their leader spoke. "Going up there?"

"Yes," Kongo said.

"Don't! It's dangerous!" the boy warned.

"Why?" Kongo asked.

"There's a ghost!" he said.

"Ghost? You mean demon?" Hiei asked.

"Not a demon, a ghost!" the boy insisted.

"Ghost, demon, same difference," Dante said.

"Don't go!" the boy pleaded.

Dante tried to move, but the kids blocked him, clinging and causing trouble. As kids, he couldn't force past.

"Wait!" Kongo said.

"Listen to us!" Hiei added.

The kids ignored their pleas, shouting.

"Why're you here?" Dante asked.

The kids fell silent.

"Just an old shrine, right? You're here playing. Saw a ghost, told the police, but they ignored you. So, with kid-level justice, you're keeping people out. Hiding it from your parents too, huh? They'd be mad."

Dante's words hit hard.

"Devil's whisper…" Kongo muttered.

"Is that true?" Hiei asked.

"Yeah," the boy admitted. "Adults don't believe us. We're protecting everyone from the ghost!"

"Don't worry," Kongo said gently. "This guy'll handle it."

"You don't believe us either!" the boy snapped.

"We do," Kongo said. "Trust us. Our Admiral's strong."

The kids exchanged looks and backed off.

"Kongo, Rebellion and Cerberus," Dante said.

"Got it," Kongo replied, fetching them from the car.

They climbed the stairs. Hiei panted, "Too long…"

"Ditch the pot," Dante said.

"Not till you eat!" Hiei insisted.

At the shrine, a heavy air lingered, the place long abandoned.

"Dante," a voice called from the main hall's roof.

A headless demon stood there.

"How's it talking?" Hiei wondered.

"The swords," Dante said. "Agni, Rudra, not coming quietly, huh?"

"We're free," Agni said.

"To settle the score," Rudra added.

"We'll show you!" they chorused.

"Bring it," Dante taunted.

Agni and Rudra dove from the roof. Hiei yelped, "Hie!"

"Scatter!" Dante ordered.

They dodged. Dante clashed with Agni and Rudra, blades sparking. Kongo and Hiei deployed their rigging to support. Agni faced Dante while Rudra deflected shells.

"Shit!" Kongo cursed.

The fight stalled. Agni and Rudra retreated, then launched a timed jumping slash. Dante rolled away. Kongo and Hiei's shells were blocked by Rudra's tornado.

Kids watched from hiding, awestruck. "So cool…"

Agni and Rudra switched. Rudra engaged Dante while Agni stabbed the ground, summoning fire pillars toward Kongo and Hiei. They dodged, but a blast hit near the kids, who screamed and ran out.

"Why're they here!?" Hiei cried.

Dante clicked his tongue. Hiei tossed her pot and ran to the kids. Agni pursued.

"Your fight's with me!" Kongo shouted, firing at Agni.

"Why'd you come?" Hiei asked.

"Sorry!" the kids cried.

"Run!" Hiei urged, but they froze.

Agni stabbed the ground again, fire pillars closing in.

"Hiei!" Kongo shouted, shielding them and getting blasted.

"Big sister!?" Hiei gasped.

Agni moved to attack, but curry rained down, coating him.

"Gah!" Agni screamed, his body sizzling.

"Brother!" Rudra rushed to him.

"That story's real!" Dante said, slamming Cerberus into the ground. Ice pillars struck Agni and Rudra. Agni disintegrated. Rudra, grabbing Agni's sword, hurled flaming blades. Dante dodged, but some flew toward Hiei.

"Get down!" Hiei shielded the kids.

Dante and Rudra clashed. Dante parried, disarming Rudra, then unleashed a flurry of slashes. Rudra vanished, both swords stabbing into the ground.

"Big sister, you okay!?" Hiei asked.

"Ugh…" Kongo groaned.

Hiei saw burns. "Commander!"

Dante rushed over, using a Vital Star to heal Kongo.

"Amazing, it's gone!" Hiei said.

"We're done. Let's go," Dante said, heading down.

"Wait, Dante!" Agni called.

"Take us!" Rudra added.

Dante ignored them.

"Admiral, wait!" Kongo chased.

Hiei started to follow but stopped. "We'll be Dante's strength again," Agni and Rudra said.

"I'm Agni!"

"I'm Rudra!"

"Take us!"

Hiei hesitated, then pulled the swords from the ground, taking them along. She spoke briefly with the kids before descending.

Devil May Cry Naval Base, Main Gate

"Now!" Tenryu shouted.

The shipgirls ambushed Dante, throwing Hiei's leftover curry. Dante snatched Agni and Rudra from Hiei, linked them, and spun, creating a heat vortex that vaporized the curry.

"Perfect timing for curry disposal," Dante said.

"What's that!?" Shigure pointed at the swords.

"New devil arms?" Kaga asked.

The shipgirls crowded around. Dante handed Agni and Rudra to Suzuya and walked off.

"I'm Agni!" Agni declared.

"I'm Rudra!" Rudra added.

"They talked!?" the shipgirls gasped.

"Gross!" Suzuya yelped, tossing them.

The swords flew toward Dante's back.

"Whoa!" Dante fell, pierced.

"Admiral!" Suzuya panicked. "I didn't mean to kill him…"

The shipgirls paled, forgetting Dante's resilience in dreams. He stood, unbothered, pulling the swords out. Blood sprayed. Some fainted, Miyuki and Hatsuyuki retched, others sighed in relief.

Night

As punishment, Agni and Rudra were placed in Suzuya's room.

"What's Kaigun?" Agni asked.

"Kaigun is—" Rudra began.

"What's Kanmusu?" Agni asked.

"Kanmusu is—" Rudra started.

"Shut up! It's late!" Suzuya snapped.

"When'll Dante use us?" Agni asked.

"No clue," Rudra replied.
