Chapter 94: Chapter 93
Haruka steps through the threshold of the grand Kojima mansion, the familiar sights and sounds of his home welcoming him back. As he closes the door behind him, his mother, Hana, appears from the kitchen, her face lighting up with a warm smile.
"Haruka, you're back!" she exclaims, hurrying over to embrace her son. "We were so worried about you. Are you alright?"
Haruka nods, returning his mother's hug. "I'm fine, Mom. Just a little tired from all the traveling."
Hana pulls back, her eyes scanning him for any signs of injury. "Well, I'm just glad you're safe. Come, your father and I have been keeping your dinner warm for you."
She takes his hand and leads him towards the dining room, where Matsu, Haruka's father, is seated at the table, a newspaper in hand. Upon seeing his son, Matsu sets the paper aside and stands, a relieved smile crossing his features.
"There he is, our prodigal son," Matsu says, stepping forward to clap Haruka on the shoulder. "Welcome home, son. We've missed you."
Haruka's stomach rumbles, and Hana chuckles. "I think someone's hungry. Come, sit, sit. I've made your favorite."
Haruka takes a seat at the table, his gaze drifting to the array of dishes laid out before him. The familiar scents of his mother's cooking immediately stir his appetite, and he reaches for a plate, piling it high with a variety of savory delights.
As he begins to eat, Hana and Matsu settle into their chairs, their eyes filled with a mixture of relief and curiosity.
"So, tell us, Haruka," Matsu begins, "how was your trip? Did you enjoy your time in the other cities?"
Haruka pauses mid-bite, considering his father's question.
"It was... interesting," Haruka says, offering a small smile. "I learned a lot and saw some amazing things, but I'm glad to be back home."
Hana reaches across the table, placing her hand over his. "We're just happy you're safe, Haruka. We were worried about you, out there on your own."
Haruka nods, his gaze meeting his mother's. "I know, Mom. But I'm alright, really. There's no place like home."
Matsu chuckles, leaning back in his chair. "That's good to hear, son. I hope you didn't have too much fun out there. Do you know what I mean? Something that has to do with the opposite sex~"
Haruka's lips curve into a wry smile. "No, Dad. I didn't."
Matsu got his head slapped by Hana. "What are you teaching our son?!"
"Sorry, honey..." Matsu apologizes.
The Kojima family continues their meal, Hana and Matsu regaling Haruka with tales of their own during his absence. Haruka listens intently, his heart swelling with a sense of belonging and gratitude for the life he's been blessed with.
As the evening winds down, Hana stands and begins clearing the table. "Well, I'm sure you must be exhausted, Haruka. Why don't you go upstairs and get some rest? We can talk more in the morning."
Haruka nods, rising from his chair. "Sounds good, Mom. Thank you for the delicious dinner."
Matsu stands as well, placing a hand on Haruka's shoulder. "We're just glad you're home, son. Get some sleep, and we'll catch up more tomorrow."
Haruka offers his parents a warm smile, his heart filled with the love and support that only a family can provide. With a final glance back, he turns and heads upstairs, eager to rest and recharge after his eventful travels.
Haruka returns to his room and lies on the bed. He summons his AI companion, Ada, with a quiet command.
"Ada, how is the progress on my mission going?" Haruka asks, his gaze fixed on the ceiling.
A holographic interface appears before him, displaying the details of his ongoing objective.
[Mission status: Complete,]
[You have visited three other cities and defeated three supervillains as required.]
Haruka nods, a faint sense of relief washing over him.
"And the rewards?" he inquires.
[You have earned 5000 points and two gacha draws,]
Haruka lets out a small sigh, his weary muscles relaxing against the soft mattress. The successful completion of his mission is a weight off his shoulders, but he knows there is always more to be done.
"Excellent," he murmurs, closing his eyes for a moment. "I'll review the gacha draws later. For now, I think I'll rest."
Haruka was about to drift off to sleep when Ada's voice suddenly interrupted the tranquility of the room.
[Haruka, I have a system update that requires your permission,]
Haruka's eyes snapped open, and he sat up, looking at the holographic interface. "An update? How long will that take?"
[The update will take approximately 24 hours to complete,]
Haruka furrowed his brow, considering the implications. "And during that time, will I still be able to use my Kamen Rider equipment?"
[Yes, you can still use your Kamen Rider equipment while the update is in progress,]
[There will be no interruption to your abilities or access to the system.]
Haruka nodded, satisfied with the explanation. "Alright, go ahead and proceed with the update then."
[Understood. Initiating update now,]
Ada responded, and the holographic interface blinked out, leaving the room in silence.
Haruka wondered what his system would have in the update. He was about to go to sleep when he suddenly heard his phone ring. He looked to check who was calling him and saw it was Kara. Haruka answered the call, and he could hear Kara's energetic voice, unlike his own, which was a bit tired, even with his superhuman physique.
"Haruka! You're back in National City?" Kara's voice chimed through the phone.
Haruka nodded, even though Kara couldn't see him. "Yes, I just got back. How about you?"
"I just got back too!" Kara replied excitedly. "I was hoping we could get together and catch up. It feels like it's been forever since we last saw each other."
Haruka couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. "That sounds good. When did you want to meet up?"
"How about tomorrow? We could grab lunch or something," Kara suggested.
"Tomorrow works for me," Haruka agreed. "Where did you want to meet?"
"There's this great café downtown that I love. Does 12:30 work for you?" Kara asked.
"12:30 it is," Haruka confirmed. "I'll see you then."
"Awesome! I can't wait. It'll be great to see you, Haruka," Kara said, her voice brimming with excitement.
"You too, Kara. I'll see you tomorrow," Haruka replied, his tone a bit more reserved than hers.
"Okay, bye!" Kara chirped before the line went silent.
Haruka set his phone down on the nightstand, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. Despite his fatigue, the prospect of seeing Kara again filled him with a sense of anticipation. He settled back onto the bed, his thoughts drifting to the upcoming meeting as he waited for the system update to complete.
