Kai Lane: Beginning

Chapter 224: Family Secret

Time passed. People tried to heal as quickly as possible. This island was no longer a paradise. No, it had become hell.

Most of the city's houses had been destroyed by the war's shockwaves. The ones that remained were unstable. People were often out and about, sleeping in the makeshift beds they had made for themselves. Some were training again. Others aimed to heal their wounds.

"We have to go now. The longer we stay here, the more suffocated I feel. Honestly, I miss home."

A few people were talking to each other, and one of them sighed.

"I want to go, too. Everything got out of hand when the hunters came here. I didn't even realize that we were in a war until it got to that point. I'm proud that I survived."

Outside the Skylands, these people would be called sky-defying monsters. Here, however, they were average at best. True talents could kill them with a wave of their hands. To Kai, they were no different from ordinary people.

There were a few groups there. They were all just talking. They were wounded. They were in no condition to train. The only thing they could do was share their knowledge to increase their strength.

"Hey... That... "

At that moment, a young blond-haired man walked slowly past them. His hair covered his ears. It was clear that he hadn't cut his hair in a while. He had a cold expression on his face, which he hadn't had before. He used to be warmhearted. Now, he seemed to have no desires.

His blue eyes were pale. One arm was missing. The other arm hung as if not under his control. Despite this, his posture was completely different from that of the others. No one dared to look down on him. His wounds were still severe. Yet, even with those wounds, he could easily kill ten of them at once.

"This maniac really cut the island in half."

No one noticed on the battlefield. Everyone wanted to kill as many Hunters as possible, and many had crossed the line by using unimaginable techniques. Kai cut Sky Island in two, and Isaac turned countless enemies to stone at the same time.

Now, they could look back and see the valley Kai had created filling with water. Kai had not just created a valley; he had actually split the island in two. The energy in the Skylands prevented the waves from completely separating the island.

"Too bad. If Kai were at full power, we could easily leave the island. But there's nothing we can do now. He did the best he could."

Everyone knew the situation. Kai first killed Ryuga, and then returned to save them, displaying his unimaginable strength.

No one here harbored ill will toward each other anymore. Kai was finished. Look at his eyes.

The people could only look after him. Then, they went back to what they were doing.

Time passed slowly. Two months had already passed. The remaining Hunters were in a panic as the Developers focused on recovery. Of the thirteen leaders, only two remained. They numbered only a few thousand. With around 5,000 members, they were on par with the Developers. However, if they tried to fight them, they would probably be crushed.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Their only advantage was that the Developmentalists were wounded. The 1st Leader was not the 1st Leader because of his strength. He was 300 years old. He could have moved to the second step a long time ago. Even now, he had the chance to advance to the second step in an almost ordinary way. He liked to dabble in traps, alchemy, formations, and other such hobbies. He couldn't beat Ryuga in a direct confrontation, but he knew how to think strategically. That's why the higher-ups appointed him as the first leader.

Still... He had to wait. As he approached the city of Atlantia, a deadly feeling enveloped him. The same was true when he waited in those areas. Sometimes he felt as if someone was watching him. How could he prepare a trap easily in that situation? How could he research and plan those areas?

"When did we end up in this situation?!"

No matter how smart you are!

You'll make a mistake in the end!

1. Leader Afro underestimated his opponent. That's what got him into this situation.

He couldn't turn back. If he tried, the Developers would attack him. Even if he could have come up with a plan, it wouldn't have been good enough. Their survival was uncertain! As long as he was being watched, though, he had no choice.

Afro didn't know it, but two people were actually watching him. One was Sarah, who snuck up on him every time he approached the city of Atlantia. She was lingering around Atlantia in case a trap had been set. If Afro hadn't always been alert and ready to escape, she would have already killed him. If he came back one more time, she would use her arrows to kill him.

Meanwhile, viewer number two was...

Among the ruined buildings in the city of Atlantia, on a bench, sat a blond-haired youth. His head was turned toward the ground. As his hair fluttered in the breeze, he lifted his head and slowly looked in one direction. He was missing an arm. His gaze pierced the forest and the cities, watching Afro's agitated state. At that moment, the 300-year-old man was unaware of those eyes. However, the young man looking at him was not paying attention to Afro.

"Whatever..."

The youth turned his head away and remained seated. Afro did not feel his gaze. There was no trace of emotion in those eyes. There was nothing Afro could feel.

At that time, far away from them, across the ocean, there was a small city. There didn't seem to be anything special about it. It was an ordinary city. Normal children went to school, graduated, and went to work, and the cycle continued.

Far away in the city, a middle-aged man stood looking at the ocean. With his hands in his jacket pockets, he looked like everyone else. But no matter how hard he tried to hide it, The look in his eyes was not something an ordinary person could have.

He had blond hair. He was on the edge of ordinary. He was handsome beyond the modern age. Perhaps it was more appropriate to call him 'beautiful'.

First, a blue head emerged from the sea, followed by a body, and finally, a handsome young man. A gray energy swirled around him. His sharp gaze locked on the blond-haired man in front of him.

"Why haven't you tried to get to Step 2 yet, Matt?"

This blue-haired youth was Kai's older brother, Matt Lane. Four and a half years ago, he was separated from his brother at the Red Lightning Academy and set out to search for legacies in the Endless Seas.

Now, he had already reached Half Step 2, and his aura was very different from before.

"Does it matter now, Father?"

Yes, the man in front of him was his father—Kai's, Sam's, and Lily's father. He was the last child of a mysterious family. Before Kai was born, he had the purest holy bloodline!

He was Rhodes Lane!

A broad smile spread across Rhodes's face. He took his hands out of his jacket pockets and put them on his hips. Even now, he gave off a different sensation. Matt could now feel the invisible pressure. Just his father's words, 'Why haven't you moved to Step 2 yet?' made it clear that his father was not a normal person. Matt had come here to learn after what he had encountered and after learning about his ancestry. He knew his family's secrets better than Kai did.

His lineage was more mysterious than he had ever imagined.

Rhodes raised his head and sighed. His gaze traveled back in time, and a look of sudden pain appeared on his face. The pain was so great that even he could not hide it.

"Okay.... It's best that you find out before your siblings do."
