Kai Lane: Beginning

Chapter 222: Sky Island Splits In Two! (2)

Zachery and the others returned with the Formation's power. This power was sapping the energy of the Hunters. Amidst the chaos, the Hunters finally became afraid.

"RETREAT!"

The last remaining 13 Leader shouted, realizing the enormity of the situation. They still had power on the other side of the island. If they could get help from the First Leader and attack the wounded developers, they might win.

"I won't let you escape!"

A blood-covered, black-haired youth charged forward, wielding twin daggers, and slit the throats of two hunters. He didn't care about the blood spilled on him. There was already enough on his clothes. The path he had taken was devoid of any living beings. He bore a crown symbol on his forehead. As he charged forward, several hunters screamed in fear. Ignoring the tremors in the Skylands, he was determined to kill as many as he could. If they escaped, it could mean the end for them.

'I can't catch up!'

No matter how fast or strong he was, it didn't matter. There were too many of them. Surely someone would manage to escape. Then they would face an even worse fate. Everyone would die.

'Go ahead.'

'Cut.'

'Kill!'

With each swing of his daggers, Isaac claimed another life. The developers had no other choice. They retreated, but Isaac continued to advance. Suddenly, a massive fissure opened in the middle of the battlefield. It was unclear how long the fissure was, but if you could see through it, you could see seawater.

When Isaac reached an area resembling a valley split in two, he jumped with all his might. The two sides were hundreds of meters apart. Driven by the desire to kill, Isaac soared through the air.

Isaac clung to the edge of the valley for dear life. Burying his daggers in the ground, he launched himself upward and charged into the group of hunters without hesitation.

"This guy must be crazy!"

Kill him! Someone so arrogant must have forgotten how to live!"

"Send that fool to the other side!"

As Isaac rushed toward the hunters, they noticed him and immediately attacked. But this man was too agile. Every attack killed someone. With their superior numbers, the attacks came simultaneously.

A dagger cut Isaac's arm.

The cut severed the ligaments in his arm, but he quickly caught the dagger with his blade and plunged it into his enemy's head.

An axe slammed into his back, creating a bloody gash. He felt as if his spine had been split in two.

He threw his dagger, piercing the man's heart.

He swung his arm, blasting four heads off, one after another, with his fist.

"He... ISAAC!"

Alvar shouted in fear and immediately threw himself forward. However, he was grabbed by two arms and pulled back immediately.

"Let go, Alvar. There's nothing you can do."

When Alvar turned his head, he saw the man with the orange hair staring in Isaac's direction, not at him. He had a pained expression on his face, too. He knew what was coming, too. They both knew they could do nothing.

Isaac threw himself forward and left the area. Tears welled in his eyes. The crown symbol on his forehead was bathed in a golden glow.

'I don't want...'

'I don't want to die...'

Suddenly, a gunshot rang out, ripping his left arm off. He could taste blood. He constantly attacked others with the knife in his mouth. He didn't want to die, but he could feel it coming.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

He could see hopeful eyes looking at him.

Only he could change things right now. He could make up for the sacrifices of so many people.

It was a small hope. A very small one. But there was still some. As long as there was hope, they wouldn't give up. They couldn't give up as long as there was hope.

Tears streamed down his cheeks. He had killed so many people, yet he knew that wasn't enough.

'I know what I have to do.'

Knowing wasn't enough. Action would determine the outcome of everything. It would determine who lived and who died.

Meanwhile, the crown symbol on Isaac's forehead transformed into a golden light that spread in all directions.

PUUHH!!

Isaac threw the dagger in his mouth at the person blocking his path, stepping over him as he did so.

Hundreds of Hunters rushed toward Isaac. Like a tsunami. Isaac stood in the empty space silently, his eyes deep. Tears streamed down his cheeks as his gaze transcended everything, going straight to the ginseng tea he had been drinking with his slanted-eyed friend at Redlight Academy. They were both talking nonsense. They were both losers. But they were happy. Maybe being a winner wasn't always a good thing. Maybe it was better to be weak and happy. No.

No, it isn't. As long as I'm happy, it doesn't matter how strong I am.

At that moment, a light flashed across the entire battlefield and appeared directly in front of Alvar. The light was the size of a human body. It had a purple hue but was almost transparent. He leaned his head against Alvar's. His face held a smile and the sorrow of a dead man.

"Thank you, Alvar."

Alvar's eyes were blank. There was a momentary tremor. Ivan, on the other hand, stared in astonishment at Isaac's spirit. They stared at him as the spirit vanished.

When all the hunters attacked Isaac, all emotion vanished from his face. Only a pained smile remained. It was bittersweet. He had wanted to stay in this world until the very end.

He knew the truth; he had seen it. That's why he wanted to stay. Even though he knew he couldn't.

"The Forbidden Technique, the Truth of the King of Lies."

DING...!!!

A light emanated from the golden crown symbol and scattered in all directions. All the hunters who had crowded around him were thrown back. Then, they began to turn to stone. None of them could escape. Screams of terror echoed everywhere. Escape was futile. They were all turning to stone. The scene resembled a horror movie. The developers were terrified too, but only the Hunters were affected.

They all turned to stone. Not a single one of them escaped.

A young man stood at the center of all those petrified people. A bitter, pained smile graced his face. He looked like a child who didn't want to go somewhere he didn't like. His tears had turned to stone along with him. His eyes were deep. They held a sadness that no one could understand.

Alvar slowly walked over to Isaac's petrified body. Another person was with him. Like everyone else, he was covered in battlefield blood, and his hair reached his shoulders. It could have been his blood, his loved ones', or his enemy's.

Jace and Alvar held Isaac's shoulders, standing there speechless. Jace wanted to apologize. He wanted to apologize for calling him a coward. He wanted to tell Isaac that he was brave and stronger than anyone else. But he couldn't. It would be pointless to say that to someone who was dying.

"I'm sorry, Isaac. I couldn't see through your lie."

The battle was over. Everyone realized the situation. They walked among the corpses. Those who saw their loved ones screamed with grief. As Boyd slowly made his way through the bodies, he suddenly stopped. A corpse lay beside him. Half of its body was missing. He was gazing at the sky. Perhaps that was how he had died. While watching a beautiful view, raindrops falling on your face.

Kai's Two-Finger Realm Slash had parted the clouds. No rain was falling. Boyd slowly bent down and looked at the man's hand lying on the ground. He laughed helplessly.

"Even in death, you held on to your shotgun."

Zachery and the others returned and pulled John and the others out of the ice. Quentin took one last look at Clara. Sarah carried Alain's body. Jack found Kai's sword impaled in Ryuga. A beautiful woman lay dead beside Ryuga.

A young, fat man with countless wounds walked, holding on to his two friends. He was practically emaciated. His face resembled that of a giant who had emerged from battle. Blood streamed from the corner of his mouth, and there was blood on his head. The friend beside him laughed bitterly.

"I didn't expect you to be the only leader left standing at the end of the tournament."

The fat young man laughed bitterly but slowly quieted down. Frankly, he wasn't in the mood for laughter.

As everyone watched the battle unfold, a young man covered in wounds stood before a gravestone. His eyes were closed. No one could fathom how he got there. His feet were the only functioning organs in his body, but eventually, they stopped working, too. The young man fell to the ground and slithered into the mud. He crawled to the grave. The soil on the grave was unlike any other. Struggling to open his eyes, he thrust his arm into the ground, his face filled with despair.

His cry of pain was terrifying. Although lost in the sounds of pain, the physical pain he was experiencing was unlike anything he had ever felt.

Kai knew something was going to happen because of the prophecy. That's why he used his master's horns. To keep the horns intact, he had to cover the man-eating earth with normal earth. He could feel energy flowing from his arm to his body, but the man-eating earth was also destroying his arm. This was the cause of his suffering.

Finally, he collapsed to the ground. One arm had been completely eaten away. At least he had escaped death.

He covered his eyes with his remaining arm. He didn't want to see the sun's rays. He just wanted to cry and feel the tears on his skin.

"You were right, master... This should never have happened."

Four lightning bolts flashed in his eyes: Peace, excitement, curiosity, love.

Before he fainted, peace faded like flowers in spring.
