Chapter 12: chapter 12 The Hunt Begins
Chapter 12: The Hunt Begins
Natasha pressed forward, her footsteps echoing in the eerily quiet jungle. The path ahead twisted into dense foliage, the trees closing in as if the jungle itself was watching her every move. Her mind replayed the illusion of Liam on the riverbank, anger fueling her resolve.
She stopped abruptly when a sharp crack echoed through the jungle. Her hand instinctively gripped her knife as she scanned her surroundings. The sound came again, closer this time, accompanied by the rustling of leaves.
A text box appeared before her:
"New Quest: The Hunt Begins. Track the predator before it tracks you."
"Predator?" Natasha muttered, her voice low. "Of course, it couldn't just be a peaceful walk."
The jungle seemed alive, the shadows between the trees shifting unnaturally. Natasha crouched low, her eyes darting around as she moved forward cautiously. The ground beneath her was littered with broken branches and animal tracks.
She knelt to examine the tracks, which were large and clawed. Whatever she was tracking—or that was tracking her—was no ordinary creature.
Suddenly, a deep growl rumbled from the shadows, sending a chill down her spine. Natasha spun around, her knife raised. "Show yourself!" she demanded, her voice firm despite the fear creeping in.
The jungle answered her with a blur of movement. A large, feline-like creature leaped from the bushes, its eyes glowing a menacing green. Its sleek black fur shimmered, blending almost seamlessly into the shadows.
Natasha barely had time to react as the creature lunged at her. She dove to the side, rolling to her feet and gripping her knife tightly. "You want a fight? Fine."
The creature circled her, its growls low and predatory. Natasha's heart raced as she calculated her next move. This was no ordinary animal—it moved with the precision of a predator designed for the game.
The creature lunged again, and Natasha dodged, slashing with her knife. The blade grazed its side, and the creature hissed in pain, its glowing eyes narrowing in anger.
A text box flashed:
"Critical Hit! Keep Going!"
Encouraged, Natasha pressed the attack, her movements becoming more fluid. She dodged and struck, each hit weakening the creature. But it was relentless, its claws slicing through the air dangerously close to her.
Finally, with a well-timed strike, Natasha plunged her knife into the creature's side. It let out a final, guttural roar before collapsing to the ground, dissolving into glowing particles.
Natasha staggered back, her chest heaving. A new text box appeared:
"Quest Complete: The Hunt Begins. Reward Unlocked: Tracker's Instinct."
"Tracker's Instinct?" Natasha muttered. As if in response, a faint glowing trail appeared on the ground, leading deeper into the jungle.
She wiped the sweat from her brow, glancing at the trail. "Looks like I've got my next lead. Liam, wherever you are, I'm getting closer."
With renewed determination, Natasha followed the trail, ready for whatever the jungle had in store.
