Chapter 1091: Golden Hair Lion: It's Too Hard for Me
The Journey to the West Pilgrimage Team, as always, descends into side quests, enjoys feasts, and moves leisurely towards the Great Thunder Monastery of the Western Heaven without any hurry.
However, although on the surface it seems there's nothing to worry about, in reality, Jiang Liu's heart is filled with his own heavy concerns.
For instance, a few days ago, Kong Xuan transformed into the appearance of a Taoist Boy and blocked his path, using a non-existent "Divine Tree King Cauldron" to test him.
Soon after, he directly jumped out, stating he wanted to borrow Jiang Liu's Treasure-Seeking Mirror.
This naturally made Jiang Liu secretly speculate about the other party's purpose.
Unlike Guanyin and Maitreya Buddha, who mainly created difficulties through design,
Kong Xuan is different; he clearly means to personally involve himself in the upcoming difficulties. Naturally, Jiang Liu pays special attention to his every move.
"If I lend him the Treasure-Seeking Mirror, is he planning to find some treasure?" Jiang Liu pondered secretly, contemplating Kong Xuan's motive.
As the current Coordinator of the Western Journey, logically speaking, at this time the most important matter to Kong Xuan should be the Journey to the West, right?
So where does he have the mind to explore other treasures?
"Wait, the Calamity Book..." After thinking for a moment, suddenly, Jiang Liu had an idea.
Yes, as a Coordinator of the Western Journey, the Calamity Book is naturally a very important thing. It's only natural for Kong Xuan to want it.
Didn't Maitreya Buddha find a Money Rat back then to search for the whereabouts of the Calamity Book?
"On the surface, the Calamity Book is in the hands of a mysterious person, and a few days ago, the news that the last Hongmeng Purple Qi fell into the hands of this mysterious person also attracted the attention of many bigwigs..."
Thinking that Kong Xuan's aim is the Calamity Book, Jiang Liu also realized that his other purpose might be the Hongmeng Purple Qi.
After all, for all Quasi-Saints, the allure of the Hongmeng Purple Qi is undoubtedly irresistible!
"If Kong Xuan's purpose is indeed the Calamity Book and Hongmeng Purple Qi, then he must be determined to get my Treasure-Seeking Mirror!"
After some contemplation, understanding Kong Xuan's purpose, Jiang Liu muttered to himself, and could empathize with Kong Xuan's thinking.
If he is truly determined to get it, then when I previously refused, Kong Xuan shouldn't just have turned around and left so easily, right?
Buzz...
Just as Jiang Liu was secretly pondering these things, as if to confirm Jiang Liu's guess, a series of dazzling Buddhist Light quickly appeared on the horizon.
At once, a figure swiftly descended from the sky, the golden Buddhist Light somewhat blinding.
"Amitabha, disciple greets the Bodhisattva of Golden Light..." Once the figure landed, Jiang Liu chanted a Buddhist mantra in a humble and respectful manner.
The visitor was none other than the Golden Hair Lion of the Bodhisattva of Golden Light.
Although in reality, the Golden Hair Lion followed Jiang Liu's instructions, outwardly, he holds the position of Bodhisattva while Jiang Liu is just a disciple of the Buddhist Sect, so Jiang Liu wouldn't forgo the necessary courtesies.
However, seeing Jiang Liu bow respectfully, how could the Golden Hair Lion dare to accept?
He slightly turned aside, moving to the side.
Then, the Golden Hair Lion said, "Xuanzang, it's been a while!"
"Bodhisattva's grand arrival, may I ask what instructions you have?" Jiang Liu nodded slightly, then asked the Golden Hair Lion.
From Jiang Liu's demeanor, directly asking his intentions, it's apparent that he was not too keen on idle chatting.
Thus, the Golden Hair Lion did not waste time and directly stated his purpose: "Xuanzang, I'm here today to request something from you!"
"Bodhisattva, you're too polite. May I dare ask what you require?" Jiang Liu's demeanor remained very humble and courteous.
"It's like this, I've heard that Xuanzang, in your possession, there is a treasure mirror that can search for treasures across the world? May I borrow it for some time?" the Golden Hair Lion asked.
Upon hearing the Golden Hair Lion's purpose, Jiang Liu's eyebrows slightly furrowed. He didn't refuse, but neither did he agree, saying, "Heard? May I know from whom the Bodhisattva heard this?"
"Uh, um..." Faced with Jiang Liu's clear inquiry about from whom he heard this, the Golden Hair Lion was momentarily at a loss, not knowing how to respond.
He couldn't directly say that the Vidyaraja informed him and thus he was sent to borrow it, could he?
"Why? Is it a secret from where the Bodhisattva heard this, and you can't share it with me?" Seeing the Golden Hair Lion's hesitation, Jiang Liu pursued.
"This, I can't quite remember at the moment who I heard it from. I just recall there's such a matter..." Under Jiang Liu's questioning, the Golden Hair Lion responded in this way.
"I see!" Jiang Liu nodded slightly, although his words suggested an epiphany.
But judging from Jiang Liu's expression, it was clear he didn't believe the Golden Hair Lion at all.
Then Jiang Liu said, "Regardless of where the Bodhisattva heard it from, I can responsibly tell you, the news you heard is mistaken! I do not possess such a treasure mirror!"
"Oh, since that's the case, I won't disturb your Journey to the West, Xuanzang!" Upon hearing Jiang Liu's denial, the Golden Hair Lion answered decisively.
After speaking, he turned and prepared to leave.
For the Golden Hair Lion, Vidyaraja had requested him to come and ask for the item, and he could not refuse, so he had to come.
But now that he's come, he has fulfilled Vidyaraja's request, and as for Xuanzang's unwillingness to lend the item, or give him face, those are no longer crucial.
"Xuanzang actually lied with his eyes wide open?" In the shadows, Kong Xuan listened to the conversation between the Golden Hair Lion and Jiang Liu, and was secretly surprised.
Determined to acquire the Treasure-Seeking Mirror, he enlisted the Golden Hair Lion to retrieve it, and naturally, Kong Xuan hid in the shadows to keep an eye on things.
He never expected that although he had just seen the whereabouts of the Treasure-Seeking Mirror, when the Golden Hair Lion came to borrow it, Xuanzang would lie with his eyes wide open, saying he didn't have it?
"Originally, I thought Xuanzang's character was somewhat pedantic, but I didn't expect him to have such a skill in lying with his eyes wide open. Seems I misjudged him!" Surprised, Kong Xuan muttered to himself.
What thoughts Kong Xuan had while hiding in the shadows is another matter.
Xuanzang claimed he didn't have the Treasure-Seeking Mirror, and the Golden Hair Lion was straightforward enough to leave, which made Kong Xuan anxious. Naturally, he couldn't let Xuanzang deceive him so easily.
Anxious at heart, Kong Xuan, who was hiding in the shadows, couldn't stay hidden and jumped out.
Under the dazzling Buddhist Light, Kong Xuan's figure appeared.
"Amitabha, greetings Vidyaraja..." The Golden Hair Lion, who was about to leave, saw Kong Xuan appear directly, and immediately greeted him.
"Greetings Vidyaraja..." Jiang Liu also followed with a greeting.
Jiang Liu was not surprised by Kong Xuan's sudden appearance, as he had guessed the situation once the Golden Hair Lion came to borrow the Treasure-Seeking Mirror.
What surprised him was that after he refused, Kong Xuan would directly jump out.
Sure enough, Kong Xuan was determined to obtain the Treasure-Seeking Mirror, or perhaps the existence of the Hongmeng Purple Qi.
"Xuanzang, ah..."
Seeing Jiang Liu greet him with an expression that was neither warm nor cold, Kong Xuan opened his mouth: "Not long ago, I came to borrow the Treasure Mirror from you to search for a desired treasure. You refused me. Today, I've come to ask, is there no other room for negotiation?"
"..." Kong Xuan's words made Jiang Liu's mouth twitch slightly.
Did Kong Xuan appear merely to negotiate terms? Or to expose Jiang Liu's lie, letting the Golden Hair Lion know for sure that the Treasure-Seeking Mirror was indeed in Jiang Liu's possession?
He cried!
Listening to Kong Xuan's words, Jiang Liu's expression didn't look great, and the Golden Hair Lion's expression was even nearer to tears!
The Golden Hair Lion viewed Kong Xuan, this great figure, as someone he could not offend.
But the Journey to the West Pilgrimage Team, he felt he could not offend either!
Ever since Jiang Liu was known throughout the three realms, Golden Hair Lion avoided Xuanzang's team like the plague, and when pretending to be a demon, he'd clean his cave thoroughly whenever Xuanzang visited, to ward off bad luck.
Now, Xuanzang's reputation is known all over the three realms and six paths; Golden Hair Lion dared not offend him.
More importantly, his life was in Xuanzang's hands!
Originally, he came to borrow the Treasure-Seeking Mirror, was refused, and could leave, having completed the task. Wasn't that the ideal outcome?
Unexpectedly, Kong Xuan jumped out directly, almost explicitly revealing that Xuanzang was deceiving him, and he indeed had the Treasure-Seeking Mirror.
Bitterness.
Bitterer than bitter gourd!
That's the Golden Hair Lion's current mood.
Unable to provoke Xuanzang, just as unable to provoke Vidyaraja Kong Xuan, stuck in between these two, what a predicament!
As the saying goes, even when two tigers fight, one is of Immeasurable Kalpa's destiny, the other the strongest Quasi-Saint; both are mighty beings, why trouble a small fry like me?
Not to mention I'm a Bodhisattva now, looking decently prominent, yet compared to these two giants, I'm nothing more than a speck!
Kong Xuan cared not for the bitterness in Golden Hair Lion's heart. Since he'd exposed Xuanzang's lie, his gaze naturally fell upon the Golden Hair Lion.
The meaning was clear.
"Alas..." Almost in tears, unable to back down, the Golden Hair Lion sighed deeply.
He could only continue: "Xuanzang, didn't you just say that you don't have the Treasure Mirror?"
