Chapter 426: Rainfall
"The ninja arena is located on an island between the Land of Lightning and the Land of Water. Geographically, it's closer to the Land of Water, but it actually belongs to the Land of Lightning," Kakashi said, "But I don't know the exact location. We'll need someone to guide us."
"Are we going abroad?" Naruto shouted excitedly. "This is really great!"
"The Land of Lightning?" Sasuke was also somewhat excited.
"Don't worry, Kakashi-sensei, with Yamamoto Ichiro here, we won't be lost," Haruno Sakura said. "First, let's go to Pasture Village and have them come here, and leave it to them to decide what to do with these guys."
By then, it was already dark.
When the villagers of Pasture Village learned that the bandits had been defeated by Haruno Sakura and the others, they immediately contacted the nearby villages. They arrived at the stockade with torches and hoes and expressed their gratitude to Kakashi and the others, before they started attacking the defenseless bandits.
The night was covered in blood!
"Hey! What are you doing?!" Naruto shouted. "They can't fight back anymore!"
But no one paid attention to the angry Naruto!
A hand rested on Naruto's shoulder. It was Kakashi, who said indifferently, "The civilians have been oppressed by them; they naturally need to vent their anger and dissatisfaction."
"So we just watch?" Sasuke felt that although the bandits were at fault, the villagers, wielding hoes and hammers, smashing into them, were no different from the bandits, or even worse.
Kakashi remained silent. "Although we are ninjas, and we possess great power, we cannot change human hearts. Let's go to the Land of Lightning."
Blood, anger, barbarism, excitement...
Such a scene, as Haruno Sakura had anticipated, shocked her, and she said in her heart, "I must change this situation! People must not become beasts because of anger!"
The four of them, with Yamamoto Ichiro still in a hypnotized state, left the place. They hadn't walked far when they felt a wave of heat behind them.
Looking back, the forest was ablaze.
After venting their anger, the villagers set the stockade on fire. The red flames devoured the stockade, as if they could burn the oppression they had once suffered.
The villagers descended the mountain joyously, as if everything was over.
"These people are too much, they even set the stockade on fire afterwards," Naruto said angrily. "It could burn the whole forest!"
The sky was ablaze, consuming everything, gradually engulfing the entire forest, and it began spreading to other areas, as if it would turn all it touched into ashes.
Faced with such a fire, Haruno Sakura and the others, even though they had walked four or five kilometers away, couldn't help but stop and watch.
"Their anger has swallowed both the bandits and themselves," Haruno Sakura said somberly.
"Setting a fire in the forest and with the recent dry weather, it's as if they were afraid the fire wouldn't catch," Kakashi shook his head. "Such a fire, even a ninja skilled in Water Release, can't extinguish it."
Sasuke remained silent; Naruto clenched his teeth in the shadows.
Amidst the flames, a group of villagers ran out shouting and crying. They knelt before Kakashi, weeping bitterly, "Ninja, please save us! We set the stockade on fire, but someone accidentally knocked over the lamp oil of the bonfire, causing the fire to spread to the forest. With the strong wind, the fire has spread to our village now!"
Kakashi's eyelids drooped, his silver hair slightly stirring in the light of the fire, and he said lightly, "Why are there no children among you?"
"My child is trapped in the fire," a villager cried out.
"So you all ran out?" Kakashi's gaze grew colder. A father could actually abandon his own child and save himself.
"But we did this to get your ..."
"Excuses," Kakashi said coldly.
"A bunch of selfish, cowardly, sleazy, and deceitful villagers," Sasuke scorned them, but in such a situation, they couldn't just watch them die. "Kakashi-sensei, is there really nothing you can do?"
"No," Kakashi shook his head. "Although I know Water Release Ninjutsu, the recent weather has been very dry, and the moisture in the air is low. Even with Water Release, it's hard to extinguish such a big fire. The best way is to cut down the trees in the direction the fire is spreading, letting the already burning areas extinguish naturally."
"I can help you," Sakura suddenly spoke up. "But, you need to give me your children, they cannot live with you anymore."
"No problem!" Hearing that a ninja agreed to save them, the villagers immediately agreed.
Having someone to take care of their children was perfect!
After all, without children, they could still have more, it was not a big deal, and since their children were trapped in the fire, if they were saved, they were sure to have burns and might not be able to work in the future, becoming burdens to their families.
"Sakura, what can you do to put out the fire?" Kakashi, not caring about Sakura's moment of compassion, was more focused on how she could extinguish the fire in front of them.
"Wind Release: Rising Air Current Skill!"
With a clap of her hands, the distant fire shot straight into the sky, carrying various smokes and ashes, flying upwards.
Yet Kakashi had noticed something.
"The air above had undergone some change, forming an airflow that was wider below and narrower above... No wonder!"
"The rising hot air below, the bigger the fire, the more hot air it generates. However, because the airflow was restricted by the Wind Release, a special environment was formed. It was hard for the hot air to escape from the top. The more it accumulated, the more it was influenced by the cold air outside, condensing into small droplets. As these droplets accumulated, they eventually led to precipitation..."
Sasuke understood, "So that's how it is, the hot air meets the cold, condensing into droplets."
During his time at school, Naruto had also studied hard and naturally understood this concept, but he had never thought it could be applied to Ninjutsu: "As expected of Sakura, that's amazing!"
Boom!
The sky above the flames darkened with clouds, and as they rubbed against each other, they generated lightning, followed soon by a heavy downpour that gradually suppressed the flames.
"Water Release: Great Waterfall Skill!" Kakashi used his Ninjutsu at that moment. With the addition of the droplets in the air, his Water Release Ninjutsu was extremely powerful. Together with the mushrooms he had collected earlier, there was no need to worry about Chakra consumption. It truly looked as though a great waterfall had descended from the sky.
"So...so powerful!"
"Ninja can actually control the weather!"
"They are gods!"
The villagers had seen ninjas before, but they had never witnessed ninjas displaying such exaggerated power; they were both terrified and in awe, almost wishing they could build temples for them and worship them every day.
After the flames were extinguished, Haruno Sakura and others followed the villagers back to Pasture Village, taking away the children, many of whom had been burned and had skin lesions. However, some hid in their own water tanks and narrowly escaped.
After visiting about seven or eight nearby villages and taking out all the children, Haruno Sakura finally led them away.
"Sakura, are you planning to take all these people to the ninja fighting arena?" Kakashi asked, "By the way, why are you doing this?"
He didn't understand.
So many people; it was very troublesome.
"They are still young; they shouldn't grow up to be like their parents." Haruno Sakura took out another type of spore and applied it to the children with skin lesions. She activated her Chakra, the spores grew, boosting their cell activity and repairing their lesions and burns.
In just a blink of an eye, all the children were healed completely.
"Thank you, sister!"
These children already knew they had been abandoned by their parents, sold... given to the ninja sister in front of them, facing an uncertain future, not knowing what to do. This version was sourced from M|V|L^EMPYR.
"From now on, you can have lives of your own." Sakura smiled at them, making them see her almost as an angel.
"Kakashi-sensei, you should be able to contact the Anbu, right? I remember Konoha has an orphanage. You can have them go there first. Just tell them they were captured by bandits, their parents have been burned to death, and they are now orphans," Sakura said.
If Danzo still controlled the power, Sakura naturally wouldn't dare to let them go to Konoha's orphanage, but now that Danzo's power had been completely eradicated by the Third, the orphanage no longer had Danzo's subordinates, and they could safely take these children in.
Kakashi: "..."
After contacting the Anbu, he handed over the children, leaving the Anbu bewildered, and Kakashi and others continued their journey, ostensibly to find the mastermind behind the bandits...
...
Konoha.
Inside the office of the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen was baffled upon learning that Kakashi had the Anbu bring a large group of orphans back to Konoha.
Although this counted as repopulating Konoha, ordinary civilian children hardly had any ninja potential!
But—
"Ah, perhaps Kakashi was moved by compassion... Well, once these orphans grow up, they can also contribute their labor to Konoha."
Thinking thus, Sarutobi Hiruzen started pondering another matter, "The ninja fighting arena, is it a rich merchant from there who's the mastermind behind the bandits?"
With the wisdom of Sarutobi Hiruzen, he could immediately infer that this bandit group was fostered by nobles.
This was most troublesome.
Though after the nobles were exposed, and the daimyo had nothing further to say, applauding them for removing a pest from the Land of Fire, Sarutobi Hiruzen knew that these kinds of nobles were likely to be imprisoned only for a while, after which they could return to their old ways of throwing their weight around.
But regarding the ninja fighting arena—
"As long as Kakashi handles it cleanly, claiming that those rich merchants and nobles are from another country, having no connection with the Land of Fire, he can shuffle things around in this matter... Besides, those participating in the ninja fighting arena have various ninjas with Kekkei Genkai under their command, obtaining a Kekkei Genkai ninja from the opponent with each victory, and those ninjas, due to their origins, would never betray."
On this thought, Sarutobi Hiruzen got an idea: "Perhaps, let Kakashi compete in a few more matches and bring some exceptional Kekkei Genkai ninjas back to Konoha."
