Journey to the West: Life Simulation of Sun Wukong

Chapter 360 Erlang is a Teacher from Fangcun_3

"Oh? Why seek to become an immortal?" Sun Wukong asked.

"Naturally, for a carefree and joyful life," Yuanguang said matter-of-factly, "I was born in the Luo Mo Kingdom of the Western Niu He Continent, near Baoxiang. Though it could not match the prosperity of Baoxiang and was merely a minor kingdom, it was peaceful and the people were content."

"I am indeed that prince of Luo Mo, clothed in silk and jade, enjoying carefree innocence, but I feared growing old and dying, unable to live joyfully any longer, hence I sought immortality."

Sun Wukong grinned.

This youngster's background was not much different from his own back then.

"Then you must work hard."

"Thank you for the encouragement, senior brother," Yuanguang bowed, "but could senior brother perhaps give me some guidance?"

"The Way needs to be realized on your own. What I can suggest is, in your free time, don't indulge in frivolous activities. Carry more water, tend to trees, visit the scripture vault often and study the classics of various schools," Sun Wukong said.

Being diligent always pleases figures like our Patriarchs.

Yet Yuanguang's expression turned sour, and the expressions of the junior brothers beside him mirrored his displeasure.

"Senior brother, although the scripture vault contains boundless texts, they are as vast as an ocean and I truly find it hard to engage with them. I don't even know what to focus on. Could you point me in the direction of some powerful techniques from the Immortal and Buddhist Sects?" Yuanguang looked on with longing.

"If you wish to learn Divine Skills, you must lay the foundation first. That sea of books in the scripture vault is precisely that foundation; you have to establish a strong base before discussing anything else," Sun Wukong still advised.

Yuanguang was immediately dissatisfied, feeling that Sun Wukong was just giving him the runaround. "I beg your pardon, senior brother, but it's getting late and we need to go to the martial arts field for training," he said.

Having said that, he bypassed Sun Wukong and headed for the martial arts field.

"Indeed, the Way is the most difficult; without meeting a truly enlightened one, even if it's spoken of, it would not be understood." Sun Wukong considered that he had been quite straightforward, but the other party felt he was being elusive.

Perhaps it was the difference in their origins.

He was but a spirit monkey from Huaguo Mountain, who had never read a book at birth, and when passing through the Nanshan Continent, naturally craved all kinds of knowledge; while Yuanguang was born into royalty, and though not to say he had seen all the books in the world, the collection of a kingdom's library is certainly not something an ordinary family could compare with.

Moreover, Sun Wukong guessed that when Yuanguang was a prince in the royal palace, he must have been forced by his imperial father to study, hence harbored a great aversion to reading.

Unless the books were related to Immortal Law or martial arts, he'd likely be uninterested.

Reflecting on this,

Sun Wukong then understood why most who came here seeking the Way failed to attain the true teachings.

Ordinary commoners struggle day and night for their meals, living necessities consume them, they are not literate, and their environment limits their thinking. Those who can come to seek the Way are mostly from wealthy and noble families, at least having travelled far and wide, and seen much of the world.

These people, in their quest for immortality, do not pursue the ultimate Way but seek to better enjoy all that they already possess – wealth, reputation, and status.

Building pillars behind walls.

Molding bricks at the kiln's head.

Fetching the moon from the bottom of water.

Technique, Flow, Stillness, Movement, these four aspects can be summed up with the three phrases above. Although they allow one's own path to endure with the world, when heaven and earth come to an end,

Once the Three Realms collapse and a new epoch begins,

Learning these skills, within the Three Realms, one may manage to live comfortably like a fish in water, but will not be able to ascend as a Heavenly Immortal and will perish along with the Three Realms.

At that time, whether one survives depends on whether a Heavenly Immortal is willing to save you.

Wandering inside the cave for a while, Sun Wukong's reflections ran deep, but he suddenly realized something was happening with his physical body outside and promptly excused himself from the Patriarch, his spirit returning to Shuilian in a matter of thoughts.

"Ao Yun, what's the matter?" Sun Wukong opened his eyes and saw Ao Yun's face slightly flushed, looking like he wanted to call out but didn't dare to.

"Great King, are you awake? Right, Taibaijinxing is here," Ao Yun immediately said, "claiming to bring the decree of the Jade Emperor." Part of a series hosted by My Virtual Library Empire (MV&LEMP&YR).

Sun Wukong nodded, "I'll go to meet him, you go about your business."

After that, Sun Wukong got up and rushed towards the entrance of Shuilian Cave, to the pavilion.

"Old Taibai, what brings you here?" Sun Wukong greeted with a smile, wrapping his arm around Taibaijinxing's shoulder, "Come on, let's talk details inside the cave."

"It's quite the good news." Taibaijinxing smiled with raised eyebrows, following Sun Wukong into the Shuilian Cave. They passed by the Mortal Dust Peach Tree, pausing to admire it for a while, Taibaijinxing once again marveled at its magic: "The Mortal Dust Peach allows one to experience the mortal world, even now, it's still inconceivable."

"If you like it, you could pick a few to take back," Sun Wukong replied generously.

"That would be many thanks, Spirit King... No, it should be Emperor now!" Taibaijinxing suddenly grew serious, taking out a jade plaque inscribed with the words "Equal Heavens", and announced loudly, "Eastern Leisurely Spirit King, because of your merit in subduing demons and also your success in educating myriad spirits, His Majesty has specially conferred upon you the title of Carefree Sage King and Sovereign of Equal Heavens."

"This is the divine seal exclusive to an Emperor, specially designed by the Sanqing Heaven Primus. King, no, Emperor, please accept it."

Sun Wukong received the jade plaque, appreciating the Sanqing divine charm upon it, he exclaimed, "I didn't expect it to be a Ruyi treasure capable of being stored within the Primordial Spirit."

As he stored it in his spiritual platform, Sun Wukong immediately understood the function of the jade plaque: it could truly grant divine titles, establish his own entourage, and meant he truly had the foundation to establish an immortal palace.

In regards to the Jade Emperor's award, Sun Wukong had anticipated it. True Martial Great Emperor would certainly not take all the credit for himself; he would definitely mention him, but Sun Wukong had not expected the Jade Emperor to be so generous, directly conferring upon him the position of Emperor.

After all, this time, he had not been as ostentatious as in the simulations.

"Please convey my thanks to His Majesty," Sun Wukong said to Taibaijinxing with a bow.

"Emperor, thanking me isn't useful; you'll have to thank His Majesty in person." Taibaijinxing shook his head, then continued somewhat seriously, "Emperor, you must be careful moving forward. Your rapid promotion may cause others to trouble you."

"Old Taibai, you're being too formal. Don't you know my capabilities? What's more, for those minor gods and immortals' tricks, couldn't I handle them? Those deities who dare to be jealous of me, are clearly not advanced in their cultivation, their personal desires not yet extinguished, and should indeed experience the mortal world anew," Sun Wukong laughed heartily, "Such gods and immortals deserve to be sent down to the mortal realms to temper themselves."
