Chapter 260: Just how many girls do you have, exactly?
Early September. Still hot. The kind of heat that makes you sweat just by walking a few steps.
Most people on the street were wiping their faces with tissues or handkerchiefs, but one man stood out—completely dry, spotless, almost glowing with cleanliness even from a distance.
And his looks? His vibe? Enough to make random strangers pause and stare.
"Shichen, where are we right now?"
A voice echoed inside the man's mind—inaudible to anyone else.
"Kind of my world, I guess," Shichen replied to Yami, who existed within him.
"Kind of?" she asked, confused.
"I'm not originally from this world either. But it's home now."
"Hmm… Well, this place doesn't seem too different from my world."
"Yeah, they're pretty similar. Just... less supernatural."
"Supernatural?"
"People here are just regular humans. No powers, no magic. Even their tech is behind by a lot. Only real difference is this world's a bit more 'modern,' I guess."
"Modern?"
"Yeah—like, ten or fifteen years ahead of yours."
"Gotcha."
"Also, no aliens here. At least, not yet."
"Really?"
"So don't go walking around in that black dress of yours. You'll stand out too much—unless it's at a cosplay convention or something."
"You mean, like… actual cosplay?"
"Bingo. That's my clever Yami-chan."
"Still, even if I did something wild, people would just think it's magic or special effects, right?"
"Exactly. People here aren't dumb—they're too smart."
"That makes zero sense."
"Don't worry about it. You'll figure things out."
"Alright… So where are we going? Home?"
"Nope. Elementary school."
"Huh?"
Ignoring the looks he got along the way, Shichen walked casually until he arrived at an elementary school gate.
Right on cue, the dismissal bell rang.
Ding-ling-ling~
It rang for about ten seconds, then stopped. The next thing that hit was the noise—kids rushing out like a wave.
"School's out!" "Time to watch anime!" "See you tomorrow, Kii-chan!" "Bye-bye, Saori-chan!"
Their childish voices were soft and playful.
As the kids streamed out, Shichen spotted two girls who clearly didn't blend in.
One wore a white beret over her blue hair—cute and doll-like. The other had long white hair and wore what looked like traditional cultural clothing. Compared to the others, they looked like they stepped out of a painting—too refined, too perfect.
"Yoshino‑chan, Kanna‑chan! Wanna come over and play?"
"Nah, our Onee-sans are waiting for us," Yoshino replied politely.
"Oh, okay…"
Suddenly, Kanna stopped walking. She sniffed the air like a puppy, closed her eyes, and froze.
"What is it, Kanna?" Yoshino asked.
"I smell Shichen."
"Huh?! Shichen-nii? Where?"
"Over there." Kanna opened her eyes and pointed.
Sure enough, at the school gate, Shichen was standing and waving at them.
"It really is him! Onii-chan's back!"
Yoshino's face lit up with joy. Without a second thought, she bolted toward him.
"Wait for me~" Kanna followed close behind.
The other kids were left standing around, confused as hell.
Yoshino and Kanna reached the gate quickly and jumped right into Shichen's arms at the same time.
"Shichen-nii!"
"Shichen~"
He crouched down, opened his arms wide, and smiled brightly as he hugged them tight.
"Yoshino, Kanna—I'm back."
"Welcome home, Onii-chan! I missed you!"
"Welcome back! I missed you too~"
"Aww~ I missed you both a ton!" Shichen rubbed their cheeks playfully—they were soft, smooth, and squishy.
A few parents nearby watched with amused smiles. Luckily, Shichen looked gentle and trustworthy—otherwise, this might've ended with someone calling the cops.
"Who are these two girls?" Yami suddenly asked.
"Your future family."
That answer didn't come from Shichen—it was from Yatogami Toka.
"Huh?"
Yami was stunned. The girl who rarely spoke had just answered her. She blinked, then asked:
"Future family? What does that even mean?"
"Same thing as you."
"…Wait. These girls are also connected to Shichen?"
"Yoshino's already been claimed by his evil hands. Kanna, not yet."
"Yet?"
"Maybe never. But they're both way older than you. Kanna's over ten thousand years old."
"Ten… what?!"
"Ask her yourself if you don't believe me."
"Fine… Still, Shichen's a total perv! He's totally into lolis!"
"Can confirm."
"You two do know I can hear everything, right?" Shichen cut in, exasperated.
"Hmph~"
"Onii-chan, what's wrong?" Yoshino asked, noticing his dazed look.
"Nothing." He shook his head, stood up, and picked both girls up. "Let's go home."
"Yay!" Kanna threw her hands up.
"Aren't you hot carrying us both?" Yoshino asked.
"Not at all. Holding you makes it feel cool," he replied with a gentle smile.
"Mmm…" Yoshino blushed.
"Hehe~ Let's go~"
Carrying them easily, Shichen headed toward a nearby café.
It didn't take long—soon they arrived.
The café was quiet, unsurprisingly—there weren't many customers at that time of day.
"This is your house?" Yami asked.
"Yep. And from now on, it's yours too," Shichen replied warmly.
"…My home…"
They didn't stop at the door. Shichen had Kanna open it and stepped in with both girls.
"Welcome—wait… Shichen-nii?!"
Nishikigi Chisato stopped mid‑greeting, then burst into a bright smile and ran over.
"Chisato, I'm back." Shichen set the girls down and opened his arms.
Yoshino and Kanna didn't linger—they took each other's hand and headed upstairs.
"Shichen!" Chisato threw herself into his arms, hugging him tightly.
"Another girl… and she's gorgeous," Yami muttered. "She one of yours too?"
"Takina! Long time no see." Shichen waved with one hand while hugging Chisato with the other.
"Yeah, it's been a while."
"How's the café?"
"Same as always. Though that blonde twin‑tail girl who comes by with Utaha and Tohka? She's loud."
"Twin-tails, huh… I think I know who you mean."
"A friend of yours?"
"Probably," Shichen said, unsure.
"Got it." Takina nodded, dropping the subject.
"Shichen, why are you talking to Takina so much? You like her or something?" Chisato pouted.
"What are you even saying?" He flicked her forehead.
"Oww… So it's true, huh? Getting defensive?"
"Getting feisty, huh?"
"Hmph! You're threatening me now?!"
"Because you're being ridiculous."
"Then why were you talking to her for so long?"
"Can I not?"
"I already asked everything—what else is there?"
"Alright, alright. Don't tease Takina—she's blushing already."
"Fine~ Then give me a welcome-back kiss!"
"People are watching…"
"It's fine~"
"Okay, okay." He gave her a quick kiss.
"That's it?" she grumbled.
"We'll continue later."
"You said it!"
"Yeah yeah. Now go take care of the customers."
"Okay~" She skipped away, satisfied.
Shichen shook his head and turned to Takina, who was clearly trying not to look.
"Takina, where's Tohru?"
"She went out for groceries."
"That explains it… Oh right—did DA contact you?"
"Not yet…"
"Good."
"Huh?"
"Ahem—anyway, I'm heading out for a bit."
"Didn't you just get back?"
"Going to surprise Tohka and the others."
"Got it."
"If Tohru gets back, let her know. I'm off."
"Take care, boss."
And with that, Shichen left the café and casually strolled toward Toyogasaki Academy. Still plenty of time left in the day.
Right then, Yami finally asked the one thing on her mind:
"Just how many girls do you have, exactly?"
