Journey to Godhood Begins in Frieren

Chapter 258: Gid Lucione Deviluke

Shichen didn't need Zastin to say anything—he looked up and saw it himself. A black dot in the sky, growing larger and clearer by the second.

By the time Shichen could make out the full shape, it had already landed softly right in front of him.

"So you're Shichen, huh? Not bad-looking. You and Lala make a decent match."

Shichen stared calmly at the figure in front of him... a kid.

Yep, just a kid. Barely came up to his knees. Looked like a toddler fresh out of kindergarten.

Messy spiky hair, a goofy little face, dressed in a modern jacket, pants, and sneakers—basically a tiny fashion-forward child.

And yet, despite his ridiculous appearance, Zastin bowed his head respectfully beside him.

"Your Majesty."

The kid didn't even glance at Zastin. Instead, he smugly rubbed his Shichenn and sized Shichen up with clear attitude.

Shichen didn't doubt his identity for a second. This was Gid Lucione Deviluke—ruler of the entire universe.

"You're Lala's dad?"

"Yup. I'm her father, Gid Lucione Deviluke."

Gid gave a cocky grin and nodded. Then he raised an eyebrow.

"You don't seem… surprised to see me?"

"Nah, I can feel how strong you are," Shichen replied with a nod.

This tiny body held terrifying energy. It even put his summoned beasts to shame.

"Oh?"

Gid smirked, showing off his shark-like teeth. "Not bad! You pass. You can marry Lala and take over my throne."

"Your Majesty, are you sure about this?" Zastin asked hesitantly.

"Why? You got a problem?" Gid looked at him. "Didn't you always talk up Shichen?"

"Shichen is definitely impressive. And Lala-sama clearly likes him."

Zastin nodded, then added:

"But shouldn't you at least ask Lala-sama what she thinks?"

"Ohhh~" Gid gave him a surprised look. "You're thinking about her opinion now?"

"Thanks to Shichen-sama. Otherwise, I might still be ignoring what matters."

"Nice."

Gid gave him an approving nod, then looked back at Shichen.

"You've got even more points now."

"Well then... thanks, uh—Father-in-law?" Shichen blinked innocently.

"Father-in-law? I like it! You can call me that, no problem! Hahaha!"

Every word and action from Gid screamed cockiness and carefree confidence—totally fitting for a galactic emperor.

Though with that kiddie appearance, it all just looked hilariously mismatched.

"So, Father-in-law, should I take you to Lala?"

"No need," Gid said casually. "Just bring her here. I want to explore this planet a bit."

Shichen hesitated.

He remembered—Gid was a notorious troublemaker. Letting him wander might spell chaos.

"Problem?" Gid asked, eyebrow raised.

"No, no problem. Enjoy your walk, Father-in-law."

"Great!"

As soon as he said it, Gid ran off—and was gone in a flash.

"I'll keep an eye on His Majesty," Zastin said, chasing after him in a hurry.

Shichen watched Zastin's retreating figure. Honestly? He'd probably lose sight of Gid in seconds. But it'd be fine.

Shichen just shook his head and continued on toward Lala's classroom.

At school

Shichen arrived at the door and peeked in. Every student was quietly studying, no one chatting or goofing off. Unexpectedly focused.

Lala was sitting beside Yui Kotegawa, helping her with some problems.

With her genius-level intelligence, this planet's academic stuff was child's play for her.

Shichen respected her mind deeply. Just through her inventions alone, she could manipulate the rules of reality—putting most magic users to shame.

"Lala," Shichen called softly from the doorway.

"Shichen!" she lit up instantly.

Her excited voice got everyone's attention. All eyes turned to the door.

"Keep studying, everyone. I just need to borrow Lala for a bit."

"Shichen, what is it?" Lala asked, curious.

"Come with me."

"Sure~"

"Yui, don't worry. We'll be back soon."

"Who's worried?!" Yui huffed, blushing hard from the attention.

"Heh~"

Shichen gave her a warm smile, then gently led Lala out by the hand.

The class couldn't help but look at Yui, their gossip radar fully activated.

In the hallway

"So, what's going on?" Lala hugged Shichen's arm, bouncing as she walked.

"Your dad showed up."

"Oh—my dad…?" she froze.

"Come on, let's go see him." Shichen smiled and led her along.

"Why is Dad even here?" she asked, confused.

"Probably something to do with me."

"With you?"

"You forgot why you came to this planet? Obviously, he came to check on us."

"Ohhh, right! I totally forgot, haha~"

"You really are a bit of a ditz."

"Can't help it—life here's been fun!" She tightened her grip on his arm.

"You're happy being with me?"

"Happiest I've ever been!"

"Even... that kind of happy?" Shichen winked.

"Pervert~" She instantly got it and blushed.

"But we probably shouldn't let your dad know about that, right?"

"Huh? Why not?"

"Unless you're planning to tell him?"

"No way!"

"Exactly."

"Okay, okay… Wait—have you already met him?"

"Yep. Kinda unbelievable, isn't it?"

"Totally. Though, there is a reason he looks like that," Lala explained.

"He burned through too much power, right?"

"How'd you know?"

"Isn't that usually the case?"

"Wow, Shichen—you're too smart."

"Nah."

"Shichen... um… did Dad do anything weird to you?" Lala asked suddenly.

"Like what?"

"Like, did he pick on you or anything?"

"Please. Do I look easy to mess with? Plus, your dad approved of me instantly and told me to marry you as soon as possible."

"M-Marry?!" Lala stammered, red-faced. "Shichen… you want to marry me?"

"Of course I do."

"Yay! I want to marry you too!"

"But it's still early. You're not of legal age on this planet yet."

"Hmm… then we'll wait till I am."

"We'll need to tell your dad."

"Don't worry about him—he's not rushing me for my sake. He just wants to retire and hand things off to someone else."

At the tennis court

Gid's presence was easy to sense, and Shichen led Lala toward the courts.

When they got there… they were not ready for what they saw.

Gid was zipping back and forth across the court, groping every girl he passed.

Screams and shrieks filled the air.

My students are being harassed!

Shichen was about to step in, but—

"Dad! What are you doing?!" Lala shouted.

"Hey~ Lala," Gid said casually, one hand still on a girl, the other waving.

"If you don't stop, I'm telling Mom!" Lala threatened, face burning.

"No no no!" Gid panicked and jumped down, running up to them.

"Hmph!" Lala crossed her arms, fuming.

"Shichen, why'd you guys get here so fast?" Gid complained.

"If we hadn't, you'd have groped the whole class."

Because of Gid's childish appearance, none of the students seemed too alarmed. Shichen waved them off and quickly led Gid and Lala away.

"So, Dad, why are you really here?" Lala asked in an empty field.

"Hmm? Didn't Shichen tell you?" Gid said, hands behind his head.

"He did."

"Then that's it. I approve Shichen as my successor. You two can get married right now."

"No way!" Lala snapped.

"Why not? Don't you like him?"

"Of course I do! But I'm not even old enough to marry yet!"

"...Huh?" Gid looked genuinely confused.

"Shichen's from this planet. I'm following this planet's rules. Once I'm old enough, then we'll get married."

"Ugh… seriously?" Gid slumped like all his energy drained away.

"Don't act like I don't know the truth. You just want to pass the throne and go play. Shichen's still mine."

"Shichen, you little..."

"Yes, Father-in-law?" Shichen said with a completely innocent look.

"Dad!" Lala jumped in front of him, blocking his glare. "That's final! I'm staying here for a while. You go back home."

"Can't I stay just a few more days?"

"Nope! Or I'll tell Mom what you were up to!"

Gid immediately shut up.
