Journey to Godhood Begins in Frieren

Chapter 238: Still Lively Lala

In the afternoon, Yami went out alone again to look for books, while Shichen brought Yui Kotegawa back to school.

Before they parted ways, Yui reminded Shichen not to bully anyone again.

Did he really come across that way?

When Shichen returned to the office, he entered the hidden room and saw that Lala was still sound asleep on the bed.

Her delicate face looked tired, her brows furrowed slightly, and there were faint traces of tears on her cheeks. She must've had a rough time.

He couldn't help but feel sympathy. Lala had a way of pulling at his emotions—her voice, her soft and fair skin, everything about her had a quiet charm.

Her complexion was a soft pink rather than pale white, giving her a gentle, unique aura.

Maybe it was because she wasn't from Earth?

He remembered she had inherited her appearance from her mother—renowned as a beauty even among the stars.

Thankfully, he wasn't someone who chased after married women… well, at least not those who still had spouses.

He shook his head, realizing his thoughts were going off track. What was he even thinking? Youthful innocence was far more endearing.

Shichen came closer to the bed, watching Lala sleep peacefully. Feeling warm inside, he lay down next to her and wrapped his arms gently around her.

The bed had already been cleaned up. Nothing was out of place, and everything else had been taken care of.

After all, it wouldn't be right to leave things messy after receiving so much from her.

Despite not feeling tired, Shichen surprisingly drifted off to sleep soon after lying down.

When he opened his eyes again, it was already nearing sunset.

Lala was still asleep. He checked the time—it was past 5 p.m.

By now, Yui Kotegawa had likely returned home, so there was no need to escort her.

He picked up his phone and, as expected, found a message from her—asking him to take good care of Lala.

Shichen gave a helpless smile. Yui clearly didn't trust him much. Did she really think he was that clueless?

He'd have to find a way to show her he was more responsible than she thought.

He didn't wake Lala. Instead, he carried her back home.

In the bedroom, he gently placed her on the bed so she could continue resting, and went downstairs to prepare dinner.

After everything, she was bound to wake up soon, and she hadn't eaten lunch—she'd definitely be hungry when she got up.

He planned to cook a hearty meal for her.

Just as he finished, Yami returned home right on time, nibbling on a taiyaki.

"Yami, come help carry the dishes."

"Oh… where's Lala?" she asked curiously while passing by.

"She's still sleeping."

"Still?" Yami paused, frowning slightly. "What exactly did you do to her?"

"Why? Curious?" Shichen asked with a playful smile.

"Not at all. I hate anything weird or inappropriate!" she huffed.

"Well, that's not something someone who gets hugged by me every night should say." His gaze drifted briefly toward her.

"Don't look!" she shouted, blushing and flustered.

"Why so shy? You're the one always squirming when I hug you…"

"That's because you don't let me sleep on the couch! I said I was fine with that!" Yami pouted.

"We're family. Why should we sleep apart?"

"Because you always try to mess around! I told you—I don't like that kind of stuff!"

"You're asleep half the time. You won't even notice."

"But your hand is still there when I wake up!"

"You'll get used to it."

"…Not talking to you anymore!" Yami turned away and left the kitchen.

"Bring the rest of the food over, will you? I'll go wake Lala."

"Got it!"

When Shichen returned to the bedroom, Lala was just waking up. She slowly opened her eyes as he approached the bed.

"Shichen~" she said hoarsely.

"You're awake," he said softly, brushing the hair from her forehead.

"I've been awake for a little while," she whispered, her eyes dreamy as they stayed locked on him.

"Really? How do you feel?"

"Hmm… I feel sore. Like I can't move."

"Leave it to me."

Green light shimmered from his hand as he placed it over her shoulder and quietly chanted, "Heal."

With a brief flash of light, the soreness faded.

"Huh? It's… it's gone?" Lala bounced on the bed, surprised. "Wow! You're amazing!"

"I'll help your voice too."

She nodded and tilted her head up.

He gently placed his hand on her throat. "Heal."

"Wow, even my throat feels better! You're the best!" She hugged him excitedly.

"Careful, or I'll start teasing you again," Shichen warned.

"Hehe~ I'm not afraid. I'm all better now. You wanna try me?" she said mischievously.

"Weren't you the one begging for mercy earlier?" he flicked her forehead lightly.

"That was… I was just caught off guard, okay?" she pouted.

"Then how about tomorrow?"

"Eh? Maybe wait a couple of days…" she hesitated.

"Is that all?" He chuckled and picked her up. "Let's eat first. Yami's waiting."

"Oh! I'm starving!" Lala hugged his neck and rubbed her belly.

Shichen looked down, noticing she had fully recovered and was back to her lively self.

"Want me to check again?" Lala asked shyly.

"…Not now."

"Why not? You seemed really into it earlier…"

"I'm not sure you've recovered all the way. Safety first."

"What does that mean?"

"You'll understand when it's your turn."

"My turn? What do you mean?"

"You'll find out soon enough."

"Hmm?" She tilted her head in confusion.

"Let's not get into that. By the way, where's Peke? Put something on."

"Oh right! Where is Peke?"

Earlier, after they stopped by the school again, Peke had still been in the office's secret room.

Shichen remembered leaving Peka there in the morning, and she hadn't moved all afternoon.

As soon as they entered the room, Peka flew up with tears in her eyes, helping Lala into a pink loungewear dress.

"You forgot about me, didn't you!" she sobbed.

"I'm sorry, Peka."

"Shichen-sama…" Peka pouted at him.

"Okay, okay, I was wrong too."

"Lala-sama, are you alright?" she asked cautiously.

She'd heard everything earlier—from the tension to the calm.

"Don't worry~ I'm fine now!" Lala. hopped down and bounced happily. "Shichen healed me!"

"That's… another one of Shichen-sama's powers?"

"Yup," he nodded.

"Will he… be gentler next time?" Peka asked nervously.

"Do I really seem that out of control?" Shichen sighed.

"Well… you kind of were earlier…"

"That's because Lala was too cute. I couldn't help it."

"I'm glad to hear that!" Lala said cheerfully.

"Don't worry, I'll make sure she rests well."

"Good…"

"Alright, let's go back. Yami's probably waiting."

"Okay!"

Shichen carried La back to the living room.

"Lala…" Yami looked her up and down.

"What is it?"

"…Nothing." She shook her head.

Lala looked more radiant and graceful than before, like a character from one of the novels she'd recently read.

Which meant… Shichen had already…

She glanced at him.

"Why are you looking at me?"

"…Just confirming that you really are a pervert."

"You're only realizing this now? Maybe I haven't given you enough evidence."

"No no, I've seen enough. Let's just eat before the food gets cold!"
