Journey to Godhood Begins in Frieren

Chapter 223: Arcade Games

Shichen naturally paid for the lingerie. After leaving the shop, he took the two girls downstairs to the arcade.

Compared with the quiet lingerie boutique, the arcade was bustling; the heated atmosphere washed over them the moment they stepped through the doors.

"It's so lively in here!"

Yui looked around in wide‑eyed curiosity.

"Lala, you know how all these machines work?"

Kotegawa Yui asked in surprise.

"Of course! Before I came to this planet I studied its culture thoroughly. I can even play King of Fighters."

Lala put her hands on her hips, beaming with pride.

"No wonder your Japanese is so good…"

"He‑he—let's play together!"

Lala grabbed Yui's hand and tried to rush in.

"Wait— we need to buy tokens… and I don't know how to play."

"So what? I can teach you."

"You… teach me? I have mixed feelings about that."

"Just let Shichen pay. And give him your lingerie to hold; it's awkward carrying it around."

"Eh? N‑No, that's not necessary…"

Yui instinctively hugged the shopping bag to her chest and glanced shyly at Shichen.

"What's there to be embarrassed about?"

Shichen chuckled. "I've already seen it. You're afraid to let me hold it?"

"H‑hey—!"

Yui shot Lala an awkward look, but Lala didn't react at all.

"Come on, let me take it. What if someone steals it?"

Shichen firmly pulled the bag from her hands.

"Who would steal something like that…?"

Yui pursed her lips, eyes following the bag.

Without another glance at the contents, Shichen hooked the bag in his hand and smiled.

"Why not? There's a real mix of people here—maybe even punks with bad intentions. Besides, you're so cute."

"C‑cute… ugh…"

Yui flushed.

"Yui is super cute~"

Lala hugged her.

"N‑no… you're the cute one, Lala."

"No need to be modest—you're both cute," Shichen said.

"Ugh…"

"Yui, play a couple of rounds with Lala. I'll go buy the tokens."

"And you?"

"Me? Heh—if I play, I'll make Lala cry."

Shichen's grin was downright cocky.

"I will not! If you've got guts, face me later!"

Lala puffed her cheeks.

"Sure, but where's the fun in a match without a little wager?"

"A wager?"

"He means a bet," Yui explained.

"A bet? Great! What are we betting?"

Lala's eyes sparkled.

"Anything's fine. You decide."

"Okay—then tonight you keep massaging me."

"Huh? Massaging what?"

Yui blinked.

"These, of course. Shichen loves them."

Lala thrust out her chest proudly.

"T‑that's so shameless!"

Yui blushed furiously.

"Is it? It feels nice~ Even if it's a bit weird," Lala said with perfect innocence.

"Ugh…"

Yui's face was scarlet; she glared at Shichen.

"Why glare at me? Lala and I are a couple. Totally normal, right?"

"Well… yes, but…" Yui mumbled.

"Yui, let's team up against Shichen later!"

Lala declared.

"Team up? Wait—does that mean I'd have to pay the bet too?"

Yui's eyes went round.

"Of course," Lala nodded.

"No way!"

"Why not?"

"You—ugh, forget it. Shichen, just go buy the tokens! And no bet!"

"Aw, that's boring," Shichen sighed.

"Boring? You two already do that sort of thing—why bet at all? You're not trying to set me up, are you? Lala, are you helping Shichen bully me?"

Yui eyed them suspiciously.

"Helping him bully you?"

Lala tilted her head, clueless.

"…Shichen?" Yui pleaded.

"Don't look at me—you know exactly what Lala's like," he said.

Yui had no comeback. They hadn't known each other long, but she already understood Lala far too well—Lala was easy to read.

"Since Yui doesn't want a bet, we drop it."

"But didn't you say it would be boring?" Li asked.

"How could playing with you be boring?" Shichen smiled.

Seeing the atmosphere grow suddenly sweet, Yui waved her hands.

"He‑he—okay, let's buy some tokens," Shichen laughed.

He hung the two lingerie bags over his arm, then took a girl in each hand and headed for the counter.

"W‑wait—why are you holding my hand?" Yui protested.

"Lots of people here. What if someone tries something?"

"We're still at the entrance!"

"Close enough."

Yui sighed in resignation and let him pull her along.

After buying a hefty stack of tokens, Shichen led them into the arcade section. It was crowded, and he instantly thought about installing a cabinet at home; Lala really loved games.

Perhaps because Yui stood out, people suddenly grew self‑conscious. A few shy‑looking boys awkwardly vacated a machine, letting Shichen claim it easily.

Instead of jumping in himself, he let Yui sit and play first.

She truly was a novice: aside from knowing the game's title and a few character names, she understood nothing. Lala, utterly patient, taught her every move.

Two pretty girls gaming made for quite a sight. The surrounding players lost interest in their own cabinets and kept sneaking glances, blushing whenever they were caught.

This was a well‑run arcade—actual hoodlums were rare.

Some onlookers did notice Lala's tail, but Shichen couldn't stop people from fantasizing.

After a while Yui got the basics down and began a real match with Lala, but her gaming talent seemed… lacking.

"Shichen, maybe you should take over," she said sheepishly.

"Nah, play two more rounds."

He pressed a reassuring hand on her shoulder to keep her from leaving the seat.

"But I'm terrible."

"That's why you practice. I don't mind."

"Yui, keep playing with me a bit longer~" Lala chimed in.

"…Okay, fine."

Yui picked her character—only then did she realize Shichen's hand was still on her shoulder… and kneading.

Her shoulders weren't even sore!

She turned to scold him but caught him looking right at her—clearly on purpose. She shot him a dark look but kept silent. After all, he'd already seen her in nothing but underwear, and even poked the soft flesh of her tummy. A squeeze on the shoulder was nothing—as long as that hand didn't wander lower. He had said earlier how much he liked those, after all…

Truthfully Shichen wasn't thinking anything; his fingers simply liked to move whenever they held something. Seeing Yui tolerate it only piqued his mischief.

The girls' match was entertaining—not the dull flailing of total newbies but a kind of charming, accidental comedy. The audience was engrossed—though whether by the game or the girls, who could say?

As Shichen watched, a faint buzzing reached his ear. A mosquito? In here?

Following the sound, he spotted a tiny silhouette nearby—but it was metallic: a mechanical mosquito. Inside, he sensed a living creature.

An alien?

No need to guess. Without a word he used telekinesis to seize the device, floated it to his hand, and crushed it. The alien inside died instantly—no blood at all.

"Shichen, what's wrong?" Yui asked, glancing back.

"Nothing."

He calmly placed his hand on her shoulder again.

"You're really shameless."

"What? Just giving you a shoulder massage."

"I'm perfectly healthy."

"Can't be sure."

"Whatever—your turn. I don't want Lala to keep steam‑rolling me."

"Eh? I've been holding back," Lala said.

"…Shichen, teach her a lesson for me!"

"Maybe—any reward?"

"None!"

"So stingy."

"You'll lose to Lala anyway."

"What? I can't let that slide!"
