Chapter 207: Chapter 206: Zhen's Jealousy
Huojin and Zhen stood across from each other, their eyes locked in fierce concentration. Flames flickered around them, the scorching heat warping the air between them.
Both fighters belonged to the True Sun Sect, but their rivalry had always been heated, and now, as they clashed in the most intense battle of their lives, that rivalry threatened to consume them.
"Are you still trying to best me, Zhen?" Huojin called out, his voice calm but laced with an edge of confidence. His flames danced around him, burning a deep crimson, as if embodying the essence of a king's fire.
Zhen narrowed his eyes, his own flames flaring a vibrant autumn orange. He refused to back down.
"I won't let you stand above me, Huojin. You've always looked down on me, but not anymore!" His voice was filled with frustration and years of pent-up jealousy.
Huojin smiled slightly, raising one hand as his fire surged. "Then let's settle this. Blazing Emperor's Fury!"
With a flick of his wrist, Huojin unleashed a massive wave of flames that roared toward Zhen like a tidal wave of fire. The ground sizzled beneath its intensity as it swept across the battlefield, threatening to engulf everything in its path.
Zhen's eyes widened, but he didn't hesitate. He quickly summoned his own flames, the orange fire flaring brightly around him as he crossed his arms in front of him. "Autumn Flame Shield!" he shouted, summoning a protective barrier of fire. The autumn-hued flames coiled and twisted into a solid wall, blocking Huojin's attack.
The two fires collided with a deafening roar, sending shockwaves through the battlefield.
The ground trembled under the intensity of the clash, and both warriors gritted their teeth as they poured more energy into their flames.
But despite Zhen's best efforts, Huojin's fire began to overwhelm him.
"Still too weak, Zhen," Huojin said, his voice cold. "You can't match my flames."
Zhen growled in frustration, feeling his shield crack under the pressure. His mind raced, searching for a way to counter. He had trained for this moment, pushed himself to the limit to prove that he was not just Huojin's shadow. He couldn't lose here, not now.
As Huojin's flames pressed harder, Zhen suddenly spun around, dispersing his shield and redirecting the remaining flames into a powerful offensive strike. "Autumn Inferno Strike!" he roared, thrusting both hands forward as a torrent of orange fire shot toward Huojin.
The attack caught Huojin by surprise. He barely had time to react as the flames smashed into him, forcing him back several steps. The searing heat licked at his skin, and he winced slightly before regaining his footing.
"Not bad," Huojin muttered, brushing the singed edges of his robe. His crimson eyes flashed with a new intensity. "But you'll have to do better than that."
With a deep breath, Huojin gathered his energy, his flames burning brighter and fiercer. He spread his arms wide, summoning more power than before. "King's Inferno Ascension!" he bellowed, and in an instant, the battlefield was consumed by a towering pillar of fire that rose high into the sky.
Zhen's heart raced as he watched the fiery pillar spiral upward, its heat threatening to crush him under its sheer force. He couldn't afford to hesitate now. With a determined glare, he drew upon every ounce of strength he had left. "Autumn Gale Fury!" he cried, his orange flames swirling around him like a whirlwind.
The two forces clashed once again, fire against fire, and the entire area seemed to tremble under the weight of their attacks.
The intensity of the heat was unbearable, and both warriors were pushed to their limits. Sweat dripped from their brows, and their breathing grew labored, but neither was willing to give up.
As the flames subsided for a brief moment, both Huojin and Zhen stood panting, their chests heaving. The ground between them was scorched black, and the air was thick with the acrid smell of burning earth.
Zhen's eyes were filled with desperation. He had given everything, yet Huojin still stood tall, his flames as fierce as ever. No matter how hard he tried, it seemed like Huojin was always one step ahead.
In that moment, Zhen's mind drifted back to his childhood—a flashback of years spent in the shadow of Huojin.
They had both entered the True Sun Sect at the same time, but from the beginning, Huojin had always excelled, while Zhen struggled to keep up.
No matter how much Zhen trained, how much effort he put in, Huojin always seemed to be miles ahead, his power unmatched.
He remembered watching Huojin from the sidelines as their sect elders praised him for his talent, his potential, while Zhen received nothing but silence. It burned inside him, a deep-seated jealousy that festered over the years.
"Why... why is it always you?" Zhen muttered, his voice barely audible. He clenched his fists, feeling the familiar sting of envy that had driven him for so long. "Why are you always the one they look up to?"
Huojin raised an eyebrow, sensing the shift in Zhen's tone. "What are you talking about?"
"You've always had it easy," Zhen said bitterly, his orange flames flickering wildly. "Always the prodigy, always the one everyone admires. But I've worked just as hard, if not harder! And yet, no matter what I do, I'm always in your shadow!"
Huojin's expression softened slightly, a rare moment of understanding crossing his face. "Zhen... is that what this is about?"
Zhen glared at him, his anger flaring. "Don't act like you don't know! You've always been the favored one, the chosen one. But not anymore. I'll surpass you, Huojin. I'll show everyone that I'm just as strong as you, if not stronger!"
Huojin sighed, his flames simmering down for a moment. "Zhen, this fight isn't about proving who's better. It's about growing stronger together."
"Spare me the lecture!" Zhen shouted, his flames roaring back to life. "I'm not fighting for some noble cause. I'm fighting for myself!"
With a determined roar, Zhen charged forward, his fists engulfed in flames. "Autumn Blaze Fist!" He swung at Huojin with all his might, each punch sending waves of heat through the air.
Huojin blocked the attack with his own flaming fists, the two of them exchanging rapid blows. "Crimson Flame Strike!" Huojin countered, his fiery fists meeting Zhen's with a thunderous impact.
The two warriors were evenly matched, their flames dancing in the air as they fought with everything they had. Each punch, each kick, each burst of fire sent shockwaves through the battlefield, but neither could gain the upper hand.
Zhen's frustration mounted as he realized he couldn't break through Huojin's defenses.
His mind raced with memories of his jealousy, his feelings of inadequacy. He had trained so hard, pushed himself beyond his limits, yet here he was, still unable to surpass Huojin.
"Why can't I beat you?!" Zhen shouted, his voice cracking with emotion.
Huojin didn't answer right away. Instead, he looked at Zhen with a calm intensity, his eyes filled with an understanding that Zhen had never noticed before. "It's not about beating me, Zhen. It's about finding your own path."
Zhen hesitated, his flames flickering as he struggled to process Huojin's words. For a moment, doubt crept into his heart, and his attacks faltered.
Sensing the shift, Huojin capitalized on the moment of hesitation. He gathered his energy, his flames burning brighter than ever before. "Blazing Phoenix Strike!" he yelled, launching a massive firebird toward Zhen.
Zhen's eyes widened in shock as the fiery phoenix descended upon him. He tried to summon his flames in defense, but his earlier doubt had weakened him. The phoenix crashed into him, engulfing him in a torrent of crimson flames.
The impact sent Zhen flying backward, his body crashing into the ground with a heavy thud. For a moment, he lay there, staring up at the sky, his flames flickering weakly around him.
But even as he struggled to get up, a strange feeling washed over him. It wasn't defeat—it was something else. Something more... peaceful.
The battle between him and Huojin was far from over, but in that moment, Zhen realized that maybe it wasn't about winning or losing. Maybe, just maybe, there was more to his path than simply surpassing Huojin.
