Chapter 18: Sold!
The ships are a sore spot for the Martels because none of the wood they have is suitable for making ships, they have essentially been isolated from the other Westeros kingdoms and have no deep friendship with any of them.
"I want to see these ships you speak of so confidently." Arianne Martell said. Her eyes sparkled with interest.
"You can study the one we came with, if you agree to buy, a thousand ships will be here in a week." Olivia said.
"Only a thousand?"
"My people are busy and I am not ready to show my...base of operation to the world just yet. So the ships will come when you pay."
"I also wish to see this ship." Doran said. What surprised Olivia is that they don't seem to look down on her as a yound girl in the least. They are treating her as an adult.
"Alright. Then lets go test it in the broken arm." She stood up and went for the door followed by her team. The Martels followed closely.
The ship is docked with many others but the smooth wood stands out. It doesn't even look like it was put together it looks to have been molded like clay. The image is very beautiful. But is it fast? Or able to fight at sea? That is another story altogether.
As soon as they boarded, Seun took the controls and it whizzed into the sea at a very fast pace.
"That is fast." Oberyn marveled.
"Agreed." Doran said.
Before long they reached the broken arm and Seun deployed the large fiery bullets creating loud explosions in the small islands. When the onlookers saw the after meth of the destruction, they were convined.
"Are all your ships at this level?" Arianne aked with a twinkle in her eye.
"No, this is a small fast ship for a quick travel. War ships pack a meaner punch." Olivia explained.
"My brother will take care of the transaction. We will take all 7 thousand of your ships. If you make more in the future, bring them too. It is time Dorne had a fleet again. Let the false kings tremble at our power." Doran Martel said in the empty sea.
Oberyn' paramour becane visibly exited as well. This deal went smoother than Olivia had anticipated. The princess Arianne Martell is silently watching the sea waters as if she has something on her mind.
"The one who built glass houses and helped improve the North was you wasn't it?" Her dark eyes gleamed with intelligence.
"Do you wish to build glass houses in Dorne princesses?" Instead of answering her question, Olivia asked with a smile that is not a smile.
"We have as harsh weather as our counterparts in the North. It would greatly improve the lives of the Dornish people to have those built here." Oberyn said from the side his paramour nodding in agreement.
"One thing at a time." Olivia shut them down. She doesn't know if they will pay her well for the ships yet.
"Very well, how much for the fleet?" Oberyn asked but Olivia scoffed "You tell me, if I see sincerity We will have many more dealings in the future." She tossed the ball back to him.
"Are you sure you only want coins and not a marriage alliance with house Martel?" Princess Arianne suddenly asked. By the look in her eyes she is serious.
"I want coins. Alot of coins." Olivia answered honestly.
"What a shame, a beauty like you would fit in here perfectly. What did Ned Stark say when he heard you were selling all your ships and not leaving him any?" Oberyn made small talk.
"Father doesn't know." She answered. "He would stop me if he finds out."
"Where did you make all these ships then? Did you really run away from home? I thought they were just refusing us audience with their prized daughter." Oberyn marveled.
"I haven't been there in two years." She admitted stunning the Martels.
"Was it your stepmother?" Arianne Martell asked with little care. "She is from the Riverlands and a devout believer of the seven faith." She made a deductive statement.
Olivia's eyes didn't show anything. The ship descended into silence. "Why come to us to sell your ships?" The princess changed the topic.
"Because you need them the most. So you'll pay the most." Logically speaking that is true but she wants them to be on equal footing with the lions.
They went back to discuss and she charged them according to Seun's advice. They will pay the money when the ships arrive which will be done discretely. The operation of transporting the ships over to Sunspear took one month of back and forth.
The Martels are impressed with the quality of each ship they now have confidence in marine warfare. The money made from this one transaction is astronomical then there is a consultation fee for curing the man of his gout and poisoning.
Against her own wishes she ended up personally administering the accupancha every night and the cleansing bath every morning while her people were bringing in the ships.
"I have removed all impurities from your body now all you need is this." She took out the glistening white pill.
"After you take it, I recommend resting for at least a day. You will feel better the following day." She put away her needles after she finished desensitizing them.
Prince Doran sat up and put of his shirt. "I notice you don't look as tired as when we started the treatment. It's as if your growing accustom to it." He observed.
"It is mental health. The medicine to recover it is too precious so I only use rest. As we continue I am also growing stronger so that is why it seems that way." She explained.
His eyes looked at her seriously. "You are very skilled with your needles and potions. I wonder who taught you?" She is still very young after all, Measters and scholars couldn't do anything about his illness so how could a child do it so easily?
"I wouldn't share something that meaningful about myself Prince, but thank you for your acknowledgement." She answered him flatly.
"I notice you are mostly expressionless, your eyes only soften when you are with your crew. To me you are still a child so I wonder what is it that made you so hard and cool headed at such a young age." He said softly with a small frown.
"Forgive my prying but I heard you melted flesh off some Lannister men when you were even younger than now. Is that why you chose us? Because of the enmity with the Lions?" Suspicion edged into his every word.
"You are awfully chatty today Prince Doran, is there a reason?" Her eyes didn't change, nor did she seem bothered by the accusation.
"Just curious."
"I can answer this question of yours. I have no enmity with the Lannisters because I settled my anger on the spot. I am not Patient enough to ponder about my next move to exact my revenge like grownups." She said surprising him.
"You may not be like that but the queen will find a way to strike back. Why would she be so vicious to a child? She has been looking for you as well."Doran continued talking.
"The king sent them to get me for our meeting but I suspect she told her brother to teach me my place first because their men started a fight as soon as they entered the inn I was staying in."
"Then I came down stairs only to be surrounded and had swords pointed at me. I poisoned them and refused to cure them even when Jaime came begging me."
"Why?"
"I was hoping to teach her a lesson maybe she will stay away from me in the future but the woman doesn't learn so I took her brother away from her." She said softly but Doran heard her. "Can I walk around your lands I want to get samplings of new medicinal herbs."
"You may do as you wish. Oberyn is talented in that field he will support your search." Doran decided to take the pill and continue resting.
....
"This is the giant root." She is about to continue explaining its use when Olivia touched the plant and finished for her.
"It is used to brew tea and fivenn to growing boys to increase the size of their male organ. But what you might not know is that it also thins out certain blood vessels making said young man prone to heart related diseases. But if brewd correctly, it is certainly a good herb to grow women's breasts, males penis and promote longevity." She plucks the herb." She smiles
"You certainly know your craft." The other girl is abit irritated but smiles and says.
It is not prince Oberyn but the princess Arianne Martell who is giving her a tour of the medicinal garden.
Olivia knows this woman is not a kind person so she wonders what does she want with her, the more she is in her presence the more uncomfortable Olivia feels. Ìt is like caressing a python. They made their way through a large number herbs and Olivia is allowed to take a few for herself.
After that she took her team to the red mountains against Arianne's urging to return to her place for a cooling down small feast. Olivia is looking for more formulas and she will not find them on cooked food.
"You are trying to get away from your new friend." Dixon laughed at the speed of Olivia's horse.
"She wants something I just don't want to know what because it will probably involve conflict. She wreaks of a traitorous breath." Olivia admitted.
Stepping on a hot stone, she finds it is not an ordinary stone. This is the opposite of the stone she uses to make warm stone in the North. This will be to make a cold stone. She took a large chunck of it and put it in the wooden crate they had brought along.
She found a special flower that can make fire poison and it's roots can make an antidote for that poison. She found the weeds that are used to make a cold version of her warm yellow pills. They regulates the body temperature and make it turn cool even in a desert.
"All these are useless for me, I want something useful." She and the small group looked for a long time, they found a patch of dry plants and after touching one of the dying herbs with a mysterious energy around it, a formula entered her vision.
Blood awakening elixir. "Now why would I need this?" She wonders out loud. But since it said it will make the blood purer maybe she can awaken the innate skills of the Northmen like warging and make use of it some how. Or better yet, she will feed it to her half siblings activating their first men powers and see what Caitlyn Tully will do about it.
She looked for it and found more of it a small distance away. Resting against a stone she found a flower growing strong against the heat. When she saw its unique formula she knew this is what she came here for. They spent the entire time harvesting this flower. It is the future of Haunted city.
After a good havest she left the harsh mountains when the last ship had just been delivered.
"We prepared a feast for you." Arianne gnashing her teeth said. She can't believe Olivia is rushing to leave like this.
"My apologies but I have been away for too long. It is best I go back to my work." She said flatly.
"About the glass houses?" Oberyn asked with some urgency.
"You have shown enough sincerity, I will contact my friend's merchant group to come. Expect them four moons from now. Please excuse me." She boarded the ship and it took off.
"The money we made here should help with the rest of the construction project. I have a new project to bother with." She can say this with full confidence since she has a very capable team for each of the construction sites in her kingdom.
"Is it a new formula? Do I get to learn this one?" Dixon is not a slave anymore and she has the freedom to do with the knowledge she obtained as she wishes so Olivia is careful not to show anyone her formulas lest she regrets it.
"Not a chance."
.....
In the North things have been very busy as of late, a while after she left, a wooden model of the Moatt was delivered to his doorstep. Ned tried to ignore it but the attention to each detail of the structure made him desire to see it come to life.
It should have been a long project but the Northerners became excited when they heard it was to Isolate their home from this Southerners. Ned has never seen the North more united than during that time.
All the houses that had remaining concrete after the great housing development donated it for this purpose. The Moatt was to facilitate security because right after that project, Ned started the massive rice farming on the swamps of the Moatt.
Unlike the rice on the Reed territory, this one is for all the houses in the North who will send people to work on the rice fields. Even apartment owners may earn a small harvest if they contribute labor.
The houses will compensate for labor along with house Stark, they will then devide the harvest according to the work done.
It is luck that he didn't need too much coins because after talking with the shop keeper of Olivia's general store, he was able to receive fresh sack of concrete powder from Olivia.
This showed that Olivia had planned for the construction of the Moatt as well but as a lord he can not depend on his child for everything. So he bought the warm stone and anything he needed instead of receiving it like the concrete powder.
Just as he is at his wit end about how to make more money. A shipment of high quality wine came to him.
"Lord Stark. I am glad you took the initiative to build the Moatt but you need funds. This wine is five times better than Lys wine. Sell it for me and keep 40%% of the profits. Give the rest to the shop keeper. Start with Dorne."
The letter is not formal at all but this should relieve some pressure. Later he realized just how right she was about it being better than Lys wine by the increased sale of the wine even though it is crazy expensive.
The rich people have all sort of health problems abd drinking the wine seems to help so much that having the wine is considered a life saver. Gifting it ti someone buys a huge favor from tthem because not only it is very useful it is expensive and scarce.
One more year and the construction of the Moatt was finished. It was grand and as magnificent as in the model.
The north remained united, there are no major waves from the south probably because Olivia has been buying the food from the Reach and Tywin Lannister had been subdued by her some time ago.
Fifteen years now she is 1'7 tall and big where she should be big, however none of this limits her movements or the speed of her hiden weapons.
"Come again, you are getting sloppy in your old age Caine." She laughed happily at her sword instructor. The veteran.
"Hahaha...I am very good my lady, it is you who is getting craftier with your movements." The strong old man stood up with fast movements and cycles her like a cheetah.
They are sparring in the training grounds. Although the snow melts, it is very cold outside but the people of this city walk around unbothered. Even the children.
A while after coming back from Dorne, Olivia developed a permanent elixir that allows their bodies to gradually adapt to an environment no matter if it is hot or cold as long as they survive the first excruciating hours.
A week ago she released Tywin from his servitude and his son who has become a deligent heir. Or at least in feont of his father he is deligent enough. Olivia had to close shop and stop selling her pills below the neck which made the people very unsatisfied.
The faith rook this opportunity to smear the North and brand them as sinners. The people became very unsatisfied with the North and that's when Pycelle swooped in with the same pills only he sold them at a very high price.
Olivia didn't bother to answer any of the people's complains mostly because she doesn't care what Southerners want. However, when people heard that the North is being treated for free with the same pills it gave rise to doubts.
Many people in the south are very poor with many working for nobles who can end their libes at any moment. The cities in the south are full of uncertainties and dangers whereas the North provides jousing for their citizens and now they here they get free medicine too.
It didn't take long for the empty lands in the North to be full of houses and new apartments to be built. The vast empty space is slowly getting occupied. If before the North could scramble together 45 thousand soldiers it can now bring out 65 thousand.
The places like the Moatt with joint farming became a recurring theme in almost all the major houses lands.
"These numbers can't be true." Olivia said in astonishment.
"You underestimate the power of medication Mistress. Small folks die from seemingly minor illnesses and by taking this cruel reality out of the equation you have made a lot of people have faith in their future in the North." Dixon explained.
"It is true. My people have confirmed this. In fact these numbers are downplayed to account for spies and those only there for a short while." Bree said. She is the master of information. She is the one training spies and have deployed them all over the seven kingdoms.
Olivia hadn't thought her generosity of free medicine would in turn bring the people from the south to her home. Granted it is no longer her most immediate home but still, it may be a good thing from another perspective because the North needs more people to prosper but she is suddenly glad to be far away from there. So many southerners makes her uncomfortable.
It will be better to think of more ways to make coins if the North wants to prosper but for once, she is not going to make this her concern because now she needs to make job opportunities for her own people.
