CHAPTER START---
---Sendai Japan, July 19th, 2014…
On the third day of yet another celebrity promotional event, Taiyo is having dinner in the top-floor restaurant of his hotel.
Sitting near the window at a table for two, he waves off the waiter once more before checking his phone.
Seeing the time, he decides to call Kusakabe, and the man immediately answers.
"You're late, it almost eight."
"Don't be so cranky. I'm 20 minutes away."
"Just tell me what you want and I'll order it for you."
"Roast duck, and a strong drink."
"I can't order alcohol, but I'll get your food," Taiyo hangs up, and signals the waiter to approach his table.
He thinks nothing of it, giving the man their order, and requesting his drink, then going back to idly scrolling through his phone.
The restaurant was full, every table and seat facilitating quiet conversations, with people occasionally stealing glances at him and even sneakily taking pictures.
He'd already gotten used to it, tuning it out and politely accepting those who approached him during his day-to-day life. In fact, he quite enjoys his celebrity life, using it to gain invitations to competitions all across the globe, which makes it all worth it for him.
And now, on the 8th story of this hotel, he could relax before joining Kusakabe to exorcise a Cursed Spirit in the morning.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen area, Taiyo's waiter, an unassuming Japanese man, carefully observes him while a petite Japanese woman prepares Taiyo's drink nearby.
She carefully mixes the simple fruit drink before slipping in a tasteless, odorless, purple powder substance.
Stirring it until completely dissolved, then handing it to her partner.
"Easiest money of our life," the man says as he places the drink on the tray and walks into the main dining area.
He keeps himself in check while approaching the table, arriving from behind Taiyo, the boy sitting comfortably scrolling through social media, wearing his black suit from earlier today.
The waiter nods to the couple sitting behind Taiyo, and they nod in return, signalling that they're ready to follow the delirious and weakened Jujutsu Sorcerer out of the restaurant and back to his room afterward.
The man places the drink in front of Taiyo and gives a polite bow, earning a 'thanks' without the boy so much as glancing at him before scurrying away.
He quickly returns to his wife and signals for her to be ready to follow them out as well, then properly serves the civilians he's also responsible for.
A moment later, he stops where his wife is mixing drinks, and they observe Taiyo as he takes a sip of his drink.
And they can't help but smile.
"That's it," the man says. "He should start feeling sick and excuse himself any minute. And even if he suspects an attack, he'll try to get as far as he can from civilians first. We have the advantage, no matter the choice he makes."
"How long does it take to work?" she asks.
"Within a minute."
A few minutes later, they observe as Taiyo drinks everything in the glass and continues scrolling on his phone.
They share a concerned look before the man leans over to her. "Double dose this time."
She nods, and he walks over to Taiyo's table.
He arrives at the table to find the boy fidgeting, adjusting his tie, and trying to get comfortable in his seat.
"Would you like another drink, sir?" he asks, and it takes a moment for Taiyo to steady himself and look up at him.
"Yes, that would—" Taiyo squeezes his eyes shut, holding his head with his left hand while his right hand rests on the table. He opens his eyes as a small flame flickers to life on his right hand for a moment before fading away. "Sorry, I mean, yes, another drink, please. And can I also get a glass of water?"
"Of course, sir," the man says as he takes the glass and returns to his wife.
She gives him the second drink along with a glass of water, and he quickly returns, signalling his friends sitting behind Taiyo to get ready.
The man sees Taiyo fidgeting slightly as he places the glasses on the table.
However, as he's about to let go of the second glass, Taiyo holds onto his wrist.
"Sir?" Taiyo's hand is warm to the touch, and with each second the heat rises. "Are you not feeling well?"
"No, actually, I'm perfectly fine. Just, my Cursed Energy is naturally warm, and using RCT to burn away poisons gets my body heated."
The man feigns confusion as he tries to pull his hand away, but Taiyo's grip is like a vice.
"You blew it when your eyes glanced at the flame earlier," Taiyo says.
"I'm not sure what you mean, sir," The man's smile is stiff, nervous.
A Special Grade was holding onto his wrist, staring up at him with cold eyes as his skin slowly cooked under the heat of Taiyo's grip.
"Are you sure you're feeling well, sir?" the man asks nervously. Jujutsu Society has rules, keeping Cursed Energy hidden was the most important of all.
Break that rule ,and nothing can protect you. That was the foundation of their entire strategy.
However, their target was the only living person who truly didn't care about that.
In a flash, Taiyo pulls the man down toward him before launching an uppercut at his chest with his free hand, punching a hole through the man as he gets up from his seat.
Blood and guts splatter across the restaurant as the force nearly hollows out the man's torso, causing panic and chaos to erupt in the restaurant.
The man's wife draws her Katana from behind her station and the couple behind Taiyo leap into action.
However, they were so stunned by such blatant disregard for the rules from a Jujutsu Tech Sorcerer, that it took them almost a second to respond.
And by the time the couple behind Taiyo were close enough to strike with their weapons, a wave of immense heat washed through the restaurant.
Being farthest from Taiyo, the wife had the most time to react, using her Innate Technique and Cursed Energy Reinforcement to its limit and raising her arms to protect her head.
The air around Taiyo is instantly superheated, creating a rampant blast wave that hits everything like a concussive grenade.
Absurd heat melts everything into molten slag and instantly cremates everything organic, including the couple behind him and every civilian in the restaurant.
The air itself is burnt away, scorching the woman's lungs and attacking her eyes as she lowers her arms, daring to look on as the roof, floor, and upper half of the building is falling apart, melting and crumbling.
And in the middle of it all, Taiyo looks at her with an excited expression.
"Finally, some of you assassins decide to play with me," he says while raising his right hand, then pointing two fingers upward.
The woman forces herself to stand, not daring to look down at her body, feeling that everything was already numb and knowing that meant she was mostly covered in 3rd degree burns.
Taiyo completes his chant, and the Curtain descends around the hotel, blocking all communications and hiding the chaos within.
"My Cursed Technique is Toughen," the woman says while forcing herself to stand, pointing her sword at Taiyo. "It allows me to reinforce myself and my weapon to a greater degree, boosting my attack and defense."
Taiyo quirks a brow at her, tilting his head in amusement. "Not enough, clearly."
He gestures to her half-charred body and melting blade.
The woman feels her consciousness fading, so she grits her teeth and charges in, feet sinking almost ankle deep into the molten floor as she closes the distance.
She swings diagonally at his shoulder, and as the blade reaches his untouched suit, it melts against him, becoming molten red and burning her hands even more, falling to the floor as liquid metal as she lets go.
Her swing causes her to lose her footing, her entire body twisting with the blade, and Taiyo takes the opportunity to casually raise his hand and poke the side of her head, firing a heat beam into it and instantly melting her brain.
Her body falls to the molten floor and ignites, no longer protected by her Cursed Technique.
And Taiyo looks around at his work, feeling nothing for the now dead people, only annoyed that they not only sent four people to kill him, but they were weak and used cowardly tactics.
"So boring," he mutters, while focusing his senses on the chaos below as everyone tries to evacuate the hotel. "This should already be enough. I'll leave them be…"
